DCI was held in Olympic Stadium in Montreal in 1981. This is Warhawk Stadium at UM Whitewater. There was NO FINALS TELECAST in 1981 due to some legal issues between the Canadians and PBS. So it was decided that the DCI Midwestern Championships would be the televised show that year. So this is actually about two weeks BEFORE DCI. The "Top 12" in this show was not the same as the "Top 12" in Canada. Also, several corps that were finalists at both shows ended up placing differently at DCI than what happened at this show. In **THIS** show the Madison Scouts won, with BD taking second and the previous year's winner (27th Lancers) dropping to 5th place. SCV (which won DCI two weeks later) placed 3rd at this show. I think this is the best recording of Crossmen playing "Explosions" I have ever heard. The soprano soloists were on fire that night. This is also one of the better audio recordings from that era.
