    Of all your videos, I think I enjoy your personal yard tours the most. I love how you group plants and repeat them throughout your garden - when I try it, it’s just a jumbled mess. How I wish you came into central Florida! Beautiful job of landscaping - thoroughly enjoyed this video.

    I want to start by saying that I really enjoyed the update! I am on the west coast of Florida and I understand your confusion about the bird house. Basically, I have found birds don't like a full tropical garden. They prefer to roost in trees and bushes that are either evergreen or deciduous. I have had to decide to make the yard more of a Florida Tropical Cottage Garden rather than just relying on tropical plants only because I want to encourage birds. So, either move your bird house or leave it a frog house, which I thought was really cool and creative.

    Thank you for finally doing an update:)JK. It has been super helpful in creating my own Florida tropical garden (zone 9 to 10). It has been difficult to get reliable data on palms and having a visual is so important. I was told that some palms can be invasive and troublesome, but like you I just wanted them for a privacy screen. I have different garden areas but would like to use palms as the background in the tropical bed and maybe three palms as a screen in two different areas. That still leaves me with one area where I need to create a screen facing the street. I guess I can plant my Arecas into the ground now that I know they are safe to use. You've created a lovely outdoor space and I really like how you approach your designs.

    That’s a great suggestion. I absolutely will bring that up in the next video I mainly go with low-voltage lighting. I love the feel of warm lights and if you’re doing it yourself, make sure to mix the bulbs to a higher wattage bulb on taller trees and a lower wattage bulb on shorter trees or accents. This makes for a tiered lighting look, it really does make a difference. Best of luck to you.

    The first time I discovered a slope for privacy like that in Florida to help layer the plants between the neighbors👍 that makes all the difference in my opinion and creates this jungle look 😍Could you please show or explain what's on the neighbor's side- a stem wall? And what happens to all the rain water- does it ever flood the grass area?

  • @stylewithlivingart

    Fortunately enough our yard drains so well. During hurricanes it does flood were I lost some grass but things bounced back fairly quickly. Both my neighbors have just a grass slope. I think the wall you may have seen was a small planter bed. I also have a wall but it’s just for aesthetics, its for my wall waterfall.

    Hello and thank you for all of the great content - you are an inspiration. We are beachside in south Brevard and are just starting to transform a soccer field into a tropical oasis after moving last summer from Texas - using many of the insights you provide. Our previous owner had planted a bunch of citrus, and they are ALL really, really struggling. The storms last year didnt help, but the problems seem much deeper as it appears the citrus really hates the sea air. Even citrus we had in pots in Texas that was thriving in the TX heat is struggling here - even in the exact same pot/soil. Are we fighting an uphill battle trying to get citrus to thrive here out at the beach?

  • @stylewithlivingart

    @stylewithlivingart

    I understand your pain. Yes the mix of our rain, salt air, and water then add the pest problems. Citrus can be pretty challenging. Normally I would say add a salt mitigation mix to your fertilizer but not sure how that works for edibles. Sorry, not my strong suit with edibles. Best of luck to you.

  • @stylewithlivingart

    @stylewithlivingart

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, I use a neutral PH top soil. Most rock yards or landscape nurseries carry something similar and add peat moss and milorganite at planting. I do this as a top coat before planting then mix it all in when planting plants. If it's a salty area I add some potassium to my planting beds which helps mitigate the salt in the soil and water. Best of luck to you.

    Yes there are many palms that can live among the shade and canopy of oaks. A few are Bottle palms matures at 12-14ft, Pygmy date palms mature at 10-12ft, European fan grows incredibly slow, Chinese fan palm ( just be careful with heights on those since they will grow into the canopy once they are full grown). Dioon matures at 6ft Palm, Cat Palm matures at 10ft. Thats just a few, check out the Bedrock palm book may offer a few more suggestions and cool florida options. Good luck!

    Hi, I love all the videos I have seen from you. Is all your shade coming from the palms above/behind/or in front or is it the house? I have a blank slate and pretty much no shade and I'm not sure where to start. Have you used clumping bamboo as a backdrop? Learning. :)

    Hello there, most of my shade comes from the taller palms trees I started with. This gave my understory plants the protection they needed from the harsh sun of the day. As my trees have grown, I've incorporated more shade-based plants below and moved my sun lovers to another spot in the garden. I hope this helps.

    Love your garden. I'm about to start planting mine. Starting with space where there's full sun. What full sun plants do you recommend? Or can you make a video about full sun loving plants ❤. I'm new to FL so I need all the help I can get 😂. Thank you in advance 🌴

    Hello Angel, some of my favorite full sun are; king sago, ruby red, crotons, Clusia, plumeria, Christmas, Alexander, Pygmy, palms copper leaf plants and I could go on. Check out our website lined below and go to the inspiration page. There are pics of plants and trees with details of shade or sun requirements. Best of luck to you!

    Thank you and I use PlantAnt.com if I’m searching for something hard to find. It’s mainly used by landscape companies however I think open to anyone to use it as a resource. Best of luck to you.

    Hello! Just want to say that I am enjoying your yard tour update. I have a question though : I've noticed that your yard has no fence. How do you deal with uninvited guests (deer) ? In my area (Ormond Beach 9b zone) we have an overpopulation of deer and each time I plant something I like, it doesn't last. How would it be possible to have a beautiful landscape and avoid the regular visit of those charming uninvited guests? right now I install garden net around my shrubs but I can't do that in my entire yard.

    That’s a tough one. Fortunately, we do not have deer in my area. They’re such opportunistic eaters. There are very few things that they won’t eat in the tropical world tropical plants are like an all you can eat salad bar for deer and rabbits. There are deer and rabbit deterrent products from Amazon that can be purchased but you do have to apply after each rain. I wish I had a better solution but I’ll be able to find one wishing you the best of luck on your project 🍀🤞

    Hi, Jennifer - just watching this video yet again and clicked on over to your Amazon products. I noticed that when you use the miracle gro feeder, you sprayed the leaves as well. I’ve always been concerned that it would hurt the leaves to do this. So you find that it helps?

    @@stylewithlivingart and when you spray the leaves, do you still have to saturate the ground at the base of the plants?

    Black cow is a good mix and add some milorganite at planting. Sticky but really gives the planting beds a boost at planting. Good luck 🍀
