When I first ran the TYR my wife could hear the difference from the kitchen. Usually that’s a bogus reply, how can you hear anything different from another room. Except the dynamic difference is so huge it stands out. It’s nice to see an enthusiastic review of them.

I use a PS Audio Gain Cell Dac as my preamp and it works very well with Tyr. I feel like I FINALLY have a high end stereo! Tyrs are airy, ballsy, dynamic, subtle, surprising, and throw a deep soundstage. These are seriously great Schiit and a bargain compared to the competition!

I run a PSA SGCD as well (with Parasound A21+), it is a VERY good DAC/pre. A better DAC/pre would be easily 2-3 times the cost of a SGCD.

I have a Novel, I think it's mainly 9pin tubes vs. 8 pin for the Freya+ Not sure if there is much sound difference, I've not seen a Novel vs + comparison anywhere. That would be a very interesting video!

I have Tyrs- the posts are 6" apart. Not a problem for my Blue Jeans or Iconoclast. For my Audioquest cables (some OG Type 4s) it was tight, but worked. So this is a worthy concern.

Hell yeah, best teaser ever. And is the Serene + Tyr the most affordable true hifi setup on the market?

If my budget were tiered for the tyros, then it is unlikely the serene would be an option. On the other hand, it's good to know if one has a serene or wishes to build the system around it, then this would be a way to add on to it in an affordable way. I'm wondering if there is a better under $1,000 preamp match

I really like my Tyrs. I use them to drive headphones which is silly but works well for me. I have preamped them with a freya +, freya N, and the LTA microzotl preamp and have enjoyed aspects of each of them. Sounds like I need to look into the serene though

You could look Serene or even go Bliss which has all the buzz in HP world. I'm split on the two at the moment.

@@aceofspades6667 Bliss is probably a better value given that it drives most headphones well and can be used as a preamp. For my uses though I really only need a preamp so I would still go for a serene.

@@christof8704 good call! I heard the bliss was 85% of the perform as of serene as a pre so pretty dang great while being a totl hp amp. If using as a pre only then serene makes sense. Have you thought about going tube pre ? Viva , ARC, line Magnetic, or allnic make some pretty great options.

@@aceofspades6667 I have the LTA microzotl level 2 preamp which is the best preamp they make and is tube based. So I'm not very interested in trying another tube preamp that you mentioned. I do think it would be nice to have a solid state option though which is why I find the serene so intriguing especially after the comments on synergy with the Tyrs in this video.

I love my Asgard 3 and I love my BasX. I don't know why I would go mono blocks but the a1 is 200 wpc at $479. Is the Tyr better? I would imagine so.

Sweet guitar, Ron! I saw it’s an 80’s Japanese over on the Sound Shed. I’ve got an ‘06 American Deluxe tele in the exact same finish. A 100watt ‘76 Marshall master volume going through and old Marshall 4x12 with greenbacks. Let’s jam, man! 🎸🔊🎶 Especially good description, Ron. I was very curious as to how these amps sounded, and you explained extremely well. You’re one of the few reviewers who I truly trust the opinion of, and I appreciate that. I’ve got Quicksilver tube monoblocks to run my Pendragons, tube pre and tube phono pre, but just can’t take my Marantz 2220B 20wpc SS (w/tube phono) out of my system. Some kinda weird but especially nice synergy between new and vintage. Thanks, Ron! Now, let’s jam!

Yeah, silent from the speakers. I hear a little transformer hum if I put my ear up next to it, but from a foot or two away, it's silent.

Any power amplifier with an e core or Torodial Transformer we'll have some sort of noise when you put your ear right up to it. It's just the nature of the hardware. Also, there will always be some sort of hiss or static coming from your speakers especially if you put your ear right against the speaker. Here is what's important. When you're seated in your listening position, do you hear anything coming from the amplifier or speakers when no music is playing? That's all that matters.

If you want to hear real music, you need to ditch the May and go to a Baltic or better Lampizator. I suspect that with the proper coupling caps the Amber 4 might sound as good or better than a stock Baltic, but that's another story. The Baltic with ODAM, and VHAudio CuTF V-Caps would certainly sound better still.

Too late. I already figured it out due to the shotgun wedding.
