But when 2NE1 came out with this kind of image, it brought confidence from within. To be confident of who you are. Then after they got disbanded, the fakeness or plastics worsened. . .idols now may talk about being real and be who you are but the image they project is the exact impossibility that 2NE1 had been trying to destroy back then.

I’ll say this, 2NE1 and BIGBANG were ahead of their time. Hence why they’re my first girl and boy groups in kpop. Kings & queens

I consider "Ugly" and "I am the Best" are both responses to YG CEO public insults calling them ugly. "Ugly" shows the pain caused by the insult. "I am the Best" says they are the best because they are beautiful and talented.

I mean that would stand if they composed their music, beauty standards in Korea would suggest they are "Ugly" as Idols. YG himself is ugly 🙄 but by then he already had a trend of debuting people for their talent not their looks. Not okay with what he said btw.

They said, UGLY means U Gotta Love Yourself. On their time, they were called out cause they’re not the “usual” kpop girl group. In the sea of pretty/girly and colorful groups, there’s 2NE1 a dominant alpha GG, swag/hiphop with striking image and aura. Even their own CEO said hurtful things to them. For me, that’s what made them a standout. They’re different. Unique. Beautiful on their own ways. They don’t depend on visuals too much. They will give you talent. Their dominance on stage, energy while performing, connection with the crowd and meaningful songs. Pure and inborn talent. Such an authentic GG. Which is so hard to find these days.

No group can replace 2NE1 bec they had 5th member : Teddy Park YGE genius producer Teddy and CL wrote Ugly Teddy was so immersed with 2NE1 he pushed out great songs .. with BlackPink he just use 1 pattern for all songs .. it's mediocre and boring .. but producer needs to be inspired to produce .. while producing for 2NE1, 2NE1 themselves were Teddy's muse IMO, Teddy just works with the talents provided to him He did great with BigBang and 2NE1 and both groups are super group with each member is superstar by themselves ... these 2 groups are literally consist of Avengers 😅 Nothing can beat them (No Thanos in KPop😂) CL wrote Crush too .. great bars .. I cam't see future groups can replace BB & 2NE1 Both group leaders can write and produce I don't see any group producing for themselves, they're not trained for that Yeah, maybe BTS .. but BTS were inspired by BB and followed their path and got lucky with social media .. When 2NE1 debuted, they broke a lot of 'unwritten' rules of K-pop, and they've got lots of hate for their appearance from the public (insane, right?). UGLY was a kind of response from them to the audience. Now I kind of get Yang Hyun Suk; he wasn't easy on 2NE1. I remember he said that he needed to be like that because the public would be much worse than him. And he was right. (Also, he was the only one in the company who voted for 2NE1 not to be disbanded.) 2NE1, with a very comeback, slayed and broke down the standards of kpop; that's why they have the title of a legendary or iconic group of kpop. You could never know what they will come up with, what concept, or what sound they'll go for. Same with BIGBANG. Both broke rules and set new trends; people followed them because they were the trendsetters, they were unique, and they showed their flaws while embracing them all. Never be afraid to be brave and do what has never been done. I miss these kinds of groups. I know for sure that if 2NE1 were active as a group until today, they would be the No. 1 girl group. They were back then, and I think no one will ever reach and do what 2NE1 did.

2NE1 were literally mind blowing concept. Their meanings lyrics looks songs is so 2NE1 it’s a genre at this point. Their discography is such a gem and solo wise we’ve been fed and I’m always so happy to know that they’re doing well rn and they have to meet often and that’s so cool. Cant wait for the next reunion hopefully it’s a new song ❤️🙏🏽🌝🌸

ugly is one of my fav kpop songs lol idk the lyrics are so simple but also so vulnerable and the sentiment in their voice is very apparent. it also adds a ton of meaning when you know that 2ne1 was a group that faced a lot of backlash because of their “unconventional” looks and even their ceo (aka the devil on earth) would tell them constantly that they were indeed ugly and then on top of that made the poor girls sing this song. but i love what they made of it. same with their whole group career. yg ruined a lot of it but they made it incredibly far and graciously so.

CL said that they were talking about these things with their then producer Teddy, wondering why beauty standards exist, why people should follow those and judge each other simply by appearances. Yeah, you might say that's how YG made 2NE1 so different from other girl groups, or that's just a joke - which I doubt it since he also said he's gonna create the new group, BP, "pretty version of 2NE1" - but you might have to admit that no matter how deep, it somehow affected them, or we wouldn't have this song.

That's what they intended to market 2NE1, I believe, coz they did the same with Big Mama back in 2003. I don't justify Yang Hyunsuk's action there, it's just wrong, but we have to admit that the way YG portrayed 2NE1 set them totally apart from all the girl groups back then. And at the end of the day, the song UGLY is released by YG, not by the girls themselves.

Fot real blackjacks are one of the best fandoms I personally know and join and I think this is also because of 2ne1 and what they showed and kind of taught their listeners. I don't see any Blackjack being a hater to one member of the group and they are actually paying attention to the meanings and lyrics of the song without judging the people by the looks but knstead focusing on their mindset and skills! To me 2ne1 and their music and also what I see from Blackjacks is like a warm hug in a society like this and also considering how the industry is getting more toxic day by day...

Also a lot of songs about insecurities are more focused on 'you're perfect just like you are - be positive!' instead having four women just yell that they also feel ugly and it's okay to just be angry without needing to disguise it in positive affirmations

Back then the hate comments were pretty rampant already for every groups (especially girl groups) but YG artists and even more so 2NE1 got it really bad because of their more "natural" appearance.. people would always tell them that they'd better get their faces fixed if they really wanted to be idols.... CL for example got comments on her single eyelids a lot because having double eyelids was what was considered pretty at the time People were always finding flaws in them everytime they appeared outside, so yeah they had it pretty bad. I'm glad they did find their confidence in themselves and that they were always vocal about receiving these types of comments and telling people off for that! They were very different from every other group out there and they were very proud of that, even with all the backlash that gave them. That's why us ♠️ were also very proud of them for being who they were, and we were always ready to have their back when problems arised
