It's all about knowledge... Had they KNOWN at the start that the only way to kill him is the medalion, and if they kNEW that damaging him would make him stronger, the fight wouldn't have been very difficult. Strike with your full power, right from the start, at the right place - and don't let up until the medalion is broken. The issue is that the fight started out slow; inflict dmg -> get stronger -> inflict more dmg -> get even stronger, etc... The lack of information is what made Gerard truly overpowered.

Remember byakuya toshiro didn't see the medallion, they were behind Gerard , time for them to turn their head , Gerard revived directly I'm pretty sure , ôetsu was strong enough to destroy his medallion because at that moment not only that he was in his normal form and weak but also , ôetsu was strong enough to do so

@@kgkg7790 I don't know what does that have to do with what I said though, but the reason why Yhwach could absorb Gerard is because he is most likely the reincarnation of the soul king, as he said before all powers belong to him, also it really didn't give the soul reapers any plot armor, as they were destroying Gerard the only problem is he was seemingly immortal, so if they actually knew this weak point they would have killed him.

Basically call Ichigo. He has too much firepower so he can use the poisounous reiatsu of Hollow towards Quincy.

It's not like Aizen trancendet, everything already in Butterly form and Ichigo in Mugetsu was even above that Aizen and True Shikai is at least relevant to Mugetsu. It's not like Aizen destroyed a being low diff that is beyond reason and governs over space and time in a form even before Butterfly and Dangai Ichigo already scales above him 😂. People really missing out what is shown and explained in the series lol

Theorized about that quincy cross as his weak point long time ago with the manga run, nice to get this confirmation, hopefully looking for a change in that battle.

I thought the whole point of the elite sternritter was supposed to be that you can’t beat them. Nobody is capable of fighting them 1v1 because they are all borderline gods, assuming they are not a piece of the soul king itself.

I would love it if the anime followed a (somewhat) different path from the manga when it comes to fights that certain Sternritter participated in, Gerard in particular. I do not know if it will really happen, but I think the chances are there since Kubo must have been dissatisfied with how he wrote some of the later parts of the arc. I myself thought that the key to defeating Gerard would be to get to a point where him coming back is no longer a miracle, but the medaillion could lead to a different outcome. I'm not sure who would be the best candidate to defeat him though. You have mentioned Isshin, but I am not sure he will be involved. But he is the only noble that it could really be. Yoruichi is already busy with her own battle.

you are too hopeful, the anime will expand and cut certain scenes, it won't change the main story line.

It looks to me like all schrift use the medallion (Quincy Zeichen) to activate and if they're destroyed the schrift can't be used.

So here are the few people who could help or defeat Gerrard. 1. Ichibei could rename the medal "ant" or anything stupid, and then finish him off. 2. Urahara could maybe restructure the medal into something perhaps useless or even maybe something poisonous or just break it down structurally. 3. Ichigo... Has enough fire power to destroy it I believe. 4. Yamaji, Zanka no tachi east of North could also do the trick. 5. Ukitake could stagnate it possibly with Mimihagi, infact stagnate the shift if possible. 6. Lord Aizen could also maybe reiatsu crush it. 7. If Zaraki and Co could get Zaraki to slash at the medal, especially since Zaraki's MO is cutting down things that don't make sense or can't be cut. A demon slash could do the trick.

I feel like it would take someone close to his level of strength. He said the miracle is that the more unlikely it is for him the win, the stronger he gets, so someone unlikely to win would be more effecting i think.

If we're talking about a character with similar power to Ichigo in the context of Ichigo being able to kill The Soul King and a Soul King infused Ywach, that would have to be Ginjo, with confirms that if not for Kubo's health, the Fullbringers would've helped or took over the fight so the other characters could do other things, and Ginjo would've been the one to deliver the finishing blow. Since he's the same kind of Shinigami/Human/Quincy/Hollow as Ichigo, meaning that he has the same ability to kill the Soul King like Ichigo.

Yup,in base the medal can be destroyed but in his holy form there's no medal to be destroyed therefore he can't be killed in his holy form but can be defeated in base

So… are these Quincy Crosses made out of Yhwach’s blood fullbringer objects? I know Gerrard’s medallion shares the ability kit with Aizen’s hogyoku… but are the Shrift’s literally just Yhwach’s fullbring abilities stored in medallions?

Well, maybe the anime will actually follow up with this idea and we'll actually see how the shinigami (probably Byakuya and Toshiro) figure out that they need to destroy the medallion and put Gerard down for good. It would be much more satisfying. Also going back to the matter of why didn't the medallion get destroyed when Kenpachi sliced Gerard or when Toshiro frozen him solid, it can be explained that the medallion only appears when Gerard is regenerating and then it quickly dissapears. So you only have a very small window to hit it, that's why the hit has to be timed perfectly. Of course, it's just an assumption on my part.

Using Kira's shikai where it doubles weight every hit would become handy.

Would Gerard resurrect after Nemia stabbed him? or did he die immediately and only Yuah could have revived him at that point. If he had died right when Oetsu stabbed him does that mean he stabbed the correct spot or is the sword just that OP?

I was close to the method damn. I thought you had to completely destroy gerard meaning not a single piece of him could remain and that it had to be the destruction of his reishi form at that seeing as the spirit too would need to be destroyed so that him surviving would be 0 thus a miracle couldn't happen.

But when he's in his holy form, he can't be killed at all cuz there's no Quincy Cross. When Gerard was spilt in half in base there was a cross, when he was split in half in his holy form there was no cross. So it moved from Gerard can't be killed to Gerard can only be killed in base😂😂

So... if they each have their own powers, how could they be affected by the awswhalen??

This seems more battle for misuse urahara or mayuri to figure out way around power, not brute strength. Mayuri bank in some way similar to this power

I agree with somebody's else's comment . I gladly take ( no pun , pun intended ) take a thousand worth expanding - expansion of fights = battles along with new fights and anime content lore .

My theory is, gerard can make the medelion invincible/untouchable in his body, thus attacks like hax Toshiro or Byakuya could not harm it at all.

I feel like if any matchup would be good it would be using shunsui's bankai. His last act is a strong slash so it might be powerfull enough.

the final act has "Blood Soaked Throat/windpipe" in its name implying that it exclusively cuts a person's throat, which as we saw with gerard and his whole head getting destorying alongside his body crumbling, I don't think shunsui's bankai would've been the solution

The miracle was granted via yhwach. Gerard was probably exclusive to his body but the miracle includes his sword too. When yhwach uses auswahlen he takes everything from power to life force.

Kenpachi would've beaten him. The only way Kenpachi can lose os with his bankai malfuntion. Im sure kepnachi could cut that in half with little effort in his bankai state.

No, because the miracle is not simply "gets stronger the more damage you take" The miracle is literally turning the impossible into possible, people try to reduce it to "is only able to revive and get stronger" to make sense of the reason why gerard lost. Using the miracle, Gerard was close to getting rid of Toshiro's ability that frozen even the slightest energy, in the same way he used the miracle to find out where hiyori and the other vizards were hiding even though their spiritual energy was minimal...

Glad to hear from Kubo himself. I always felt the fandom gave way too much props to Gerard. No singular villain in the entire series has died as many times as him. None, lmao. Captains were literally taking turns killing him, that's embarrassing. With a power that only kicks in AFTER youve got your ass whooped is pretty lame IMO. Iw also makes sense that if Kubo had more time/inclination he prob would have had him beat with some other special clan sword or whatever. Thanks for the info!
