This is slightly incorrect. It will drive up the consumption of limited resources. Circuit boards in particular. Depending on design this could be severely bottlenecked. However, in the long run I believe its a net benefit to have a wider array of small circuit board manufacturers in more countries even if quality could suffer. The usage of rare earth metals, and even common ones like copper, are however looking to get scarce even without increased battlefield use. One thing to keep in mind is that war swallows resources like nothing else even without advanced circutry in the weapons. The sheer pressure felt on common resources in WW2 quickly tapped out available supply routes. If there are low intensity conflicts, or simply the specter of conflict, then it might stimulate technological production and development. But in war it will garantuee shortages unlike anything you've experienced before.

Definitely the future of Warcraft. As drones become more popular, small fast silent tanks like these become equally important..their unmanned feature makes them indispensable in modern warfare..cheaper than a main battle tank..thier multiple roles , a no brainer...my one critique would be the urban role is impractical at present..

My problem with UGV, fully auto or not, is their use in peer to peer warfare. I doubt they will live long enough engaging targets they can deal with, to make them economical. Control the sky, the ground. These are relatively far slower, bigger, clumsy. Spotted by air drone, with links to smart weapons, capable of evading countermeasures, so much cheaper, even if these trade out. I can UGV for counterinsurgency only, to get into places air cant, and competition don't have best toys.

tell that to the Global hawks and Predator drones that America operate.. even with human intervention, the operators can also make mistakes.. oops. United States aerial drone launched four Hellfire missiles on a convoy of 11 cars and pickup trucks during a counterterrorism operation in rural Yemen. The strike killed at least 12 men and wounded at least 15 others, 6 of them seriously. Witnesses and relatives of the dead and wounded interviewed by Human Rights Watch in Yemen said the convoy was a wedding procession. They said everyone in the procession was a civilian, including all of the dead and injured, and that the bride received a superficial face wound.

its gonna become way more capital-intensive, so the economic factor will be even more important in the future. I guess the level of discouragement will depend on the economic prospects. Imagining robot armies fighting against each other could be good because of the low loss of life, but byproducts of war like refugee streams will probably be exacerbated if the level of inhibition sinks because of the lower stakes. Still there are nukes on the table which remain the biggest equalizer and will deter most countries from starting wars of aggression like it did for decades I imagine.

@@t1ll316 I think you are talking about two superpowers, that could match toe-to-toe against each other with autonomous or remote-controlled war machines on a ground and/or aerial war? There's no such realistic scenario. USA is the only superpower. China will be near-peer on paper at most, and only in limited circumstances. War machines would pummel human targets, like insurgents, probably in 3rd world countries, armed with age-old military hardware. Near-peer opponents won't engage, because they would lose and the whole world would see and their military technology would be viewed as inferior and become internationally and widely ridiculed.

The problem with this is cost! The more advanced the systems are, the more they cost. The Ukrainian front is 600 miles long, or 965 km. They would need at least 3 per 100 meters in defense with different configurations (ATGM, SAM, machine gun, auto cannon, indirect fire) + replacements and dedicated vehicles going to the assault brigades. That's at least 39,000 in defense plus another 21,000 in the assault roll. Minimum! The advantage of drones is the low cost. They have to bring it down, and this can only be done if they remove unnecessary technology. Military corporations want to make money. That's not what the military want though.

newer technologies are always really expensive, it goes down in price with time. a good example is thermal vision. point of one of those UGVs is not to replace infantry. is a very inteligent mule that now can also shoot. so you take the load off of companies for weght carrying, ISR and also have combat support depending on models, package etc ukranian soldiers have been removing wounded soldiers from the frontlines with regular civilian trucks. with one of thoses (on specialized models) you can just put two soldiers on top of it (on strechers), press a button and it will go back to the base alone following waypoints. it takes the load off people who could be doing other stuff. anyway, there's many examples, but you're right, it is expensive for an infantry based equipment

We don't know how expensive and practical these vehicles are to produce and field, besides large ground vehicles will always, ALWAYS hold limitations that infantry do not have. Another problem would be the silhouette and protection of these vehicles and also believe it or not the targeting system. The system needs to distinguish exactly WHO is friendly, WHO is a civilian, WHO is the enemy, WHO has surrendered, WHO is hors de combat (severely wounded), and HOW to deal with this. Inventions like these are flawed for now.

these vehicles are made to walk side by side with infantry, not replace them at all. autonomous robots shooting are a war crime, you always need a man in the loop. the interesting feature is you can expose the robot to get shot on fire support instead of exposing your machine gunner for example. or to scout a place, and so on. or regular fire support because no infantry will carry a canon that size

That means you would have to fuel them almost as soon as you land before they could do anything. Including security. Before someone tries pulling out the EV card remember how much that makes the EV weigh. Jo 8 still gives the most bang for the buck.

The poor Tartar's who think they are Azeris, have been used as a military force to occupy an Armenian territory, that one day will be liberated, just as Kuwait was liberated in 1990. a) the usa does what it does to maintain global super power position. It has to play proxy domino against china and russia. You want Israel to be a chinese proxy and have the USA to stay in north america like it did pre WW1 be my guest. b) this tech and almost all other cutting edge Israeli tech are fully private Israeli sector with Israeli funding. This is true for all cases unless specified otherwise, like in the cases of Arrow 3 and Iron Dome.

What are you talking about “ donates “ some tiny percent to Israel ?. For starters the US has a ten year appropriation for Israel’s of $3 Billion a year🎉 for ten years . Which will then be renegotiated and probably increased. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong just say it is NOT some tiny percentage of TAXPAYERS money .
