***** We are in golden era of V8s at Bathurst. Every race for the last few years are just absolute stunners. People who wank about the good ol' days are idiots (I lived through all of them from the 70s) Don't get me wrong I love all those eras but the stuff now is just SO flat out hyper competitive and close.

That is true. People bang on about the glory days being the Group C era, and yeah sure the cars back then were closer to their showroom spec, however it was always the same old winners. This, folks, is the best era - certainly as far as the intensity of the racing goes.

This was my first race I watched when I discovered the series.... literally found it this day and tuned in on lap 36 for my first time ever. Lets just say the racing was so good I need to make a international trip to visit this track one day. I hope I can make it out one day.

@weather12guy this track is a public road which you can actually drive on 355 days of the year. The Bathurst race however, is best watched on TV, due to the 6.2km / 2.07 lap times. If you ever make it down under and to a race, I recommend watching one of the other races in the series- Adelaide, Newcastle, Gold Coast etc. Much more spectator friendly.

the tv does not do it justice - it looks flat and sterile on tv compared to the actual track if you can make it, do it just walking around the track is amazing enough, without even seeing v8 superfarce going around it

+Wayne Ogston Worst thing I ever saw in my whole life watching Bathurst. My Ford-loving mate is still hassling me about it ... (revenge for the plastic bag incident).

Potentially the last great Ford vs Holden battle at The Mountain we will ever see. Great way to round out the era with a bang.

I've watched this video multiple times over the years and it never fails to put a smile on my face.

I know I saw it, but I can´t really believe what happened there. I´m genuinely at a loss for words. Never seen anything like it... You couldn´t write a race in a movie like that, everyone would just roll their eyes and tell you it was idiotically cheesy

Look up Formula One, the day everyone ran out of fuel, San Marino Grand Prix from around 1985

Every single Bathurst for the last few years are just draw dropping amazing particularly the ending laps. People go on about 'the good ol' days' (and I did them) but we are in a golden era. These guys go flat out the whole race. Never again will you see someone (onya Bocky) win by six laps.

I was only a kid watching races in the '90s but I made sure I sat down too watch the entire thing every year (if my dad got his way), and I've heard all about the 'good old days', but these races now are so close even after 1000km!! Last years was easily the best Bathurst I've seen in my life, it's even still saved on my Foxtel Hard Drive. I think some people just reminisce, and get stuck in the old days and can't move forward.

I wish a racing series like this could be broadcasted in Brazil... Great races, they let the guys race, a great event in an awesome track (Bathurst)... Anyway, it's always cool to watch it. Time can be an issue (starts like 1 a.m our local time), but the australian crowd is the one with more interest I had the chance to see Winterbotton running in my hometown once as an invited driver in the season opener for our Stock Car. Great experience

I still go back to this one. I remember watching it live and had the entire race saved on my housemates Foxtel for ages. Such an amazing race, and Whincup running out of fuel was just incredible!!

Incredible win. Started last, at one point had crashed the car into the fence. A young kid and a 46 year old has been. Incredible story and incredible drive.

Do the words "BACK OFF" mean anything to Jamie Whincup at Bathurst? I think not.

in the offseason they did a segment and investigation into it, he had more of a chance of winning by running like he in chance it made it home, if he backed off they would've fallen further into the field. Everyone rails whincup for this but i believe 4th is the best they couldve expected seeing as mosterts car had been stuck at turn 2 during the race. He made an educated decision that roland said was better than the teams at the time.

It sounded like whincup said "aw just got a bump and all" after chaz got past at forests elbow. What does the guy expect when he's slowing and running out of fuel but still trying to block? GO FORD!!

Well, with the way that Chaz was all over the back of him, I don't think he could have held him off, plus right past the Elbow, it looked like Whingecup was swerving left and right, like he was trying to get fuel into the pickup...maybe Jamie's motor stumbled/stalled in the corner of the Elbow and Mostert inadvertently made contact. Of course, this would not be the first time Whingecup would claim a bump and run (See 2014 Clipsal 500 Race 2 finish)

If you ever wanted to see the very best of motorsport and motorsport broadcasting look no further. This will inspire for a thousand years.

This and the 2007 finish I could just watch time after time and never get sick of it!

As always, the V8 Supercars and Bathurst deliver gold :)

Whincup was driving the wheels of that car to maintain the gap, If he reduced his pace Mostert would have been all over the back of him forcing him to push harder anyway.

I knew the outcome, but I was still nervous rewatching this spectacular win by Chaz! Definitely my favourite driver then and now!

Just about as epic as 2011 when Lowndes and Tander were going at it for the win. Good on ya, Mostert \m/

I must say Jamie Whincup is quite adept at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, really well done. Congratulations to Ford Performance and Mostert on a fabulous drive. They never led a lap all day except for the last one, the one that counts. When a journalist asked him how he did it, Mostert replied "" Put fuel in it mate". 😂😂😂😂😂👍👍👍

I was at Reid Park that year and I was cheering the last lap.

This race is a constant reminder of the beauty of V8 supercars, best race ever

Epic race,best in years.....this race will go down in Bathurst 1000 history........... And to watch whincup/redbull coast across the finish line..........awesome!!

Probably the best finish to a Bathurst 1000 ever, i still remember being up off my seat cheering when Chaz went past at the elbow that day WOW 🤩

I have to give Mostert and The Dude credit: they came from stone dead last and crunched into the barrier at Griffin's and still managed to pinch the win from Whincup at the third-to-last corner.

as soon as I saw it last year in this 2014 bathurst 1000 jamie whincup ran out of fuel so my dad went across the road and as soon as chaz mostert went past jamie whincup all of us went wild this is one of the best bathurst 1000 races IN V8 SUPERCAR HISTORY

it happens, but I liked his posture. He decided to try for a win than give up and save fuel. That's how you do it in racing, especially in a big one. The greats of racing would be proud of him

Wow, what a finish, I knew the result but was overseas and preoccupied the day of the race and have never seen the finish, until now! That day is one of the reasons Supercars are so highly regarded by international Motorsport fans.

@@nigelapps3122 I have watched the race many times both on YT and DVD i NEVER heard anything about JW having battery trouble. This is the first i have heard of battery trouble. Either way it made me HAPPY and i dare say you were not upset by it. 2013 2014 FORD WINS BATHURST!!!!!!!!!!!! JW can help himself, he always feels he has to go 110%, well it cost him the race, all he had to do was back off, you do not need to win by a large margin.

I think from 2023 onwards all V8 Supercar recordings should be in 4k.

It was on lap 160 that Whincup realised... he fucked up

I WAS at the Pub one day and we We're Talking about why they Stoped MAKEING , FALCONS and Now Holden is Gone , I listen To what they were saying , they Had there head in the sand, I Am older and Final said , it simple Don't support our own car Industry ( I said this Quietly ) No Offence. But have a look in the Car park There was 13 cars- 6 JAPANESE 3 Korean , 2 European , 1 Holden And you Guest it 1 Falcon and THAT was mine , They did not Like the Truth ! , Started telling Me , I somehow got it wrong, Time to go ! , But as I left I Said along the line ( There Still giveing it to me ) Stuff IT , I Turned around and said Were is the good old days when 8 people did not gang , up on Older person , had some Respect For somebody older to have a DIFFENT view , no it mob rule Now , Just like our car Industry The Old Aussie way is going !!! And left , I WAS thinking about what my Uncle said 10 years ago , I was TALKING about the Aussie way My Uncle , did not really answer And his body language was Different I said Uncle , You Do not Agree ? The only thing missing was rain, as it often has rained towards the end of the race in other years - just to mix it all up.

I remember my dad screaming "BLOCK HIM JAMIE BLOCK HIM" for like 10 minutes

This one hurt too much.

The signage on the back of Whincups car says it all 'Maverick' - His lack of understanding of the situation was astounding for someone with so much experience. It was like - I'm the great Jamie Whincup I will win this race my way - I don't need you fools in the pits to tell me how to do it. His ego got ahead of the strategy for Red Bull 888 and the result was there for all to see. Gave us an incredible finish and a memorable Bathurst 1000 though I guess.
