Seeing Noctis struggling so hard to reach her breaks my heart. 😭

For the games faults, this is still a beautifully crafted scene. The field of flowers slowly fading into darkness and water was gorgeous and added a somber, grave power to Luna's monologue. You can feel the FF7 imprint all over this scene. Unfortunate Luna got such little screen time. The game has lots of problems, but this scene was quite moving nontheless. Aided greatly by such superb voice acting.

Ff15 was nothing more than a "fun" playthrough" for me. But thus scene really was exceptionally executed.

He hit the braid out of Luna's hair

even though luna isn't in the game a whole lot, her impact on me was surprising to say the least. I could believe her and noctis' bond, and her humility, which is very important to understanding and liking her as a character. square did a good job at pulling my heart strings in a major way without the story being too long. I still don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Regis and Luna are both aware of the tragedy that will befall the world as well as the tragedy Noctis will have to endure. They both do their best to shield him from this inevitable tragedy as long as possible to give him the hope to continue. Both Regis and Luna take on great physical pain and suffering by using their powers to protect and heal their subjects but they carry their painful burden with great dignity and grace. They hide this pain from Noctis so he won't worry. They're both such amazingly strong characters. They may have little screen time, but they have such a big impact.

this scene shattered my heart! Some say Luna is boring but in my opinion Lunafreya is a incredibly brave, strong, protective and purehearted woman. The farewell to Noctis was so powerful it felt like Art. All of this gets even sadder by the fact that Noctis loses his father, carries a huge burden and then loses the love of his life. Both born and raised to die for the greater good

I have no words to offer that can do justice to the cinematic perfection of this scene. Something as simple as the subtle look on Luna's face and her lack of words when Noctis asks her if she'll be there, and what it implies, can make a grown man burst into tears.

I can tell Ardyn hates being pitied, Luna is the only one who gets under Ardyn's skin

I think it's also because he knows that Luna resembles his fiancee Aera (Luna's ancestor) in both appearance and power. And because she played a role in his downfall, he spites the oracle's bloodline.

You can see Luna grabbing Ardyn and as oracle telling him that one day he'll know peace. That pisses him off but also breaks his heart and you can see it in his eyes. 1:07

SPOILER! Yea Ardyn was pissed for a good reason, that slap was well deserved. "all in thrall to darknass shall know peace." Like Ardyn had a choise... He is the best anti-villain ever, and he got his revenge and could finaly die :).

PaulM what's even more sad is that the lore implies the chosen king and the oracle must be together for the prophecy to come to pass...and if Ardyn is to believed as the first chosen, then his story is even more tragic as he knows the price of the covenant (per his conversation with a certain someone in chapter 9).

SPOILER! True, but acording to Ardyn the price of his covenant was the corruption of his soul. After the Great War of Old the Astrals had to find a way to cure the starscourge, Ardyn was a healer and his soul was pure that's why Bahamut and Shiva choose him as the first "Oracle"(before the Nox Fleuret bloodline) to heal the infected people. On the cover of the book "Cosmogony" you can see Bahamut giving the "blessing" and maybe the crystal, ring too to Ardyn and a promise that he as the king can ascend and do the same thing what Noctis did at the end, in the backgorund you can also see Shiva with the scepter "Ahh the face you wore the day you". He gets the power of the crystal and the ability to cure(absorb) the starscourge, but after absorbing many daemons his soul gets corrupted and he is refused to ascend. He was a "failure" in the eyes of the astrals, then they choose to split the roles and Bahamut gave the healing powers and the scepter as a communication device to house Nox Fleuret, and now the Kings role was to protect the crystal and ascend when the time comes without corrupting his own soul. The Astrals knew that Ardyn is going to be a problem in the future and they knew that the Crystal's sole power is not going to be enough anymore to both defeat Ardyn and to cure the starscoruge. They needed a much greater power and as Ardyn was waiting the astrals went to sleep waiting for the day when the ring absorbed enough great souls of the old Lucian kings to be strong enough for "Providence". In the Omen trailer Regis asked Bahamut "how many must die before you are satisfied?" the answer was "I'm only looking forward to one"(technically two with regis) which means with Noctis's death the ring is going to have enough power to do "Providence".

PaulM once again, spoilers. that's the problem though. The woman in the picture may not have been Gentiana. The Cosmogeny book (if I remember correctly it's the one at Wiz's chocobo post) states the legend that the staff/trident of the oracle was gifted unto a pious maiden of Tenebrae by Bahamut himself. Ardyn is of the Lucis Caelum line and i think the lore is that oracles are always of house fleuret. He cannot be oracle and king both. The crystal and the ring could very well have given him the ability to absorb the scourge. The oracles seem to purge it completely, as what Luna was doing. The covenant with the Six was what was killing her, not the starscourge itself. The ability to awaken the Six takes a drastic toll on the mortal body, a toll that Ardyn is familiar with, possibly from watching the oracle of his time do the same. There is not much from his past we know of, but there are quite a few blatant hints dropped that you pick up on the second time through. The Omen trailer was hinting at what could happen to Noctis if he went it alone...it implies he could turn out like Ardyn, who was symbolized by the grey mangy looking dog posing as prina. Bahamut was confirming to Regis that Noctis would be the last death required to end it all due to the crystal regaining enough light and the light of the Lucis family's kings of yore becoming strong enough. With that being said, I look forward to the dlc and hope maybe they will shed a little more light on the ongoing backstories hinted to throughout the game. :)

I agree. I didn't feel much when I first saw the scene because her story didn't have a build up towards her death. After completing the game and learning more about her, this scene really hurts. I bet a second playthrough will make me tear up lol. Hopefully they extend her appearance in the game with the upcoming improvements and patches.

Yes a second run gives more meaning to most of the scenes because you know more about it in the train in chapter 12 and towards the end. So logically it's made to have more impact on you after finishing the game, as the movie, intro of the game, the meaning of the florence songs etcétera

The most devastating thing that most people will not understand and continue to undermine. Is the ultimate female essence of this game. Luna appears as a child to Noctis in this last destination death takes her. Reunited as how they once were.. innocent. But as their memory goes on Luna becomes older than Noctis much faster. Comforting an inner child of Noctis who doesn't fully comprehend his emotions and inner self. Luna who is enlightened and fully aware of herself teaches Noctis about his Emotions...his inner self that he is has suppressed or simply has not experienced. When he finally understands and starts to feel what Luna wants him to express, he reaches her mentality and emotional range. (hence becoming older and reaching out to her.) Noctis is Luna, Luna is Noctis. The Yin and the Yang of their grand design of their soul purpose. Luna is the expression of Noctis's soul. Just something I focused in on... the female mentality. Gentle, emotional, beautiful, and everlasting.

I played the game the very first day it came out, however this is one of my favorites scenes from so many different games I've played. Each time I watch it, it has a different message to tell. But now, after reading what you wrote, it has change something inside me. Thank you for that, bro.

I'm playing this game for the first time today and legit yelled at this scene cause I really liked Luna.

I love that it wasn't til episode Ardyn we learned that Luna possibly knew what would happen and that this is one of the few ff's where the main villain actually accomplishes his goals

Jadi Knight I have to think it's intentional, how they build her up all during the development of the game, you get excited to see a romance on par with Tidus and Yuna/Squall and Rinoa/Cecil and Rosa and so on and so on, and after Noct has waited years to see her so have we! Then Ardyn takes her away abruptly, we too feel the same loss and anger that Noctis is feeling! We feel that Luna was stolen from us too!

ajitter89 ... the one thing that bothered me was I literally just didn't care emotionally enough about Luna, Especially during this scene, my emotion was similar to "Oh, She got Stabbed ... okay then" what REALLY got to me emotionally is when you see them both as children and How much it Hurt Noctis that she died ... However I don't feel all that Attached to her, even after watching Kingsglaive and The Brotherhood Anime. She just deserved more Building up, but No, she was literally a Plot Device to me "She's got to die so Noctis feels the Need to push forward No Matter what"

As someone who didn’t really watch any promotional material before this came out, I thought she had plenty of screen time, and her death impacted me more than I thought it would because of how it impacted Noctis and the rest of the crew.

It started to thunder and rain when i watched this XD perfect timing.

Yo her weave got snatched. There wasn't even a transition it just glitched out of its style.

Never hated a videogame villain as much as I do him.

Lance Leander L. Cembrano After rewatching Kingsglaive, I'm laughing hysterically at this comment.

Most blame Nomura... some blame tabata... What most don't know is that this games story was close to 90% done when Nomura had a hold of it. Had assets and all. Tabata had an amazing vision for it. But as most have said, the company kept pulling people from the versus 13/15 team. Now this is just hearsay, but I've heard that the reason why the original story got scrapped from versus 13 is that the CEO at the time said it was too dark and that people would not like it or play it. Doesn't give an excuse for the 10 year development hell though.

I don't particularly care about Luna's character much, but her scene with Ardyn here is interesting. And it's one of many little details in the story that doesn't really make a lot of sense unless you play the DLC and read the book. Now that I've done those things, I can tell how Ardyn sees Aera in Luna's eyes when he looks down and gently lowers his hand from her face. Then when Luna goes and says, "All in thrall to darkness shall know peace," it's almost like he remembers himself and pushes her away violently in an attempt to push away his own feelings. He hates Luna for reminding him of his beloved, and he hates her for pitying him. Just as he hates Noctis for reminding him of Somnus. Ardyn must have found it immensely satisfying to take away from Noctis what Ardyn had taken away from him thousands of years ago.

Love this girl. Love Noctis. Love Zack. Love Aerith. I'm just glad they're happily together and married in the end like they wanted. Eternally

Because the entire game failed to provide a tidbit more of what's required in the game to even connect to the damn female. If anyone wants to flat out defend anything in this game... you must be a 2000's baby that gets easily attached to anyone just because of their said "role" in the game...

Beautiful scene. Although Luna wasn't in the game as much only in some cut scenes, the game still made you feel what a good and strong character she was. The connection between her and Noctis was very believable and this scene is very emotional. It made me teary eyed and I sure hope the ending is even more emotional. Great game so far. Really don't understand why some people are saying the story is bad.

Tbh, I think they made a grave mistake when they killed off Nyx in Kingsglaive, because he spent more time with her than Noctis did, ironically lol. (Excluding their childhood). Would've been awesome if they somehow incorporated Nyx into the scene in some form or fashion, considering he played an equal role in the deliverance of the ring. All well.

This was supposed to be another Aerith-Sephiroth moment but unfortunately I wasn't as invested in them as much as I should have. The bind between the four main characters were the only one I cared about. Might have to play this again.

Hey i know that most of the giys comenting on this r just like i only shed one tear during this scene because they wanna look and sound tough dont get me wrong i look and sound tough in person but i also have a soft kind hearted side as well and im not afraid to mention that i cried my eyes out on this part

i don't play final fantasy but i hoping one day though. i just watch some cut scene and literally not enough for me to understand the whole game story, however, i really feel bad for noctis ::(( esp after i learned he died as well in the end

OK, I know people are upset that Luna's role isn't well developed and all. But, here is the thing for me personally. It isn't really her death that is emotional. She was the goal for Noctis (because it is, after all, Noctis's story). All this time in Eos, driving around, fighting enemies to accomplish simple goals to reach the grand goal, hearing many people getting hopes up because of how influential Luna is to many people and Noctis on a personal level. After all we've been through just to finally reunite her was suddenly stripped away. It is very clear Noctis loved her and seeing him losing so much, including her, is what makes it emotional. However, I understand that she did not have enough screen time to make her relatable and all like say Aerith/Aeris would be in FFVII. However, she still was important to Noctis and losing her (along with his father) is what makes it emotional for me. In truth though, I would be lying if I said I didn't mind not seeing much of Luna, because I seriously do. I think there should be a DLC for her...but of course many might disagree since they are becoming eye sores for many. Still, if there was any chance we want to spread #justiceforLuna, then I'd say give me a DLC LOL

This was how I saw Luna's death as well. It wasn't so much as to how her death affected us as much as it was her death affecting Noctis. Square can obviously get us to love a character and then painfully rip them away from us (like Aerith in VII), but this time, this death wasn't about us. It was about Noctis, and how much Luna's death affected HIM. The game gave us enough information so we knew just how much Luna meant to Noctis. Luna's death was so that we empathize more with Noctis and his harsh journey to bring back light to Eos. It wasn't for us to mourn with Noctis, but rather to mourn the cruel fate that he must go through.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I find it funny when people criticize the way Luna's character was executed and then others are like, "Oh, but the game wasn't ABOUT the love story. The game was about the bond between Noctis and his friends." Yet while I'd say the friendship/roadtrip aspect is the strongest part of the game, that's kind of the problem. Because said friendship/roadtrip aspect doesn't have a whole heck of a lot to do with the actual story. FFXV wants to be so many things at once, and it doesn't quite stick the landing on most of those things. Noctis's biggest influences in this game are supposed to be Regis and Lunafreya. They are played up to be the two MOST significant people in his life. And like... he hardly has any screentime with either of them. Honestly, the game is quite light on story before Altissia and Luna's death. Not a whole lot happens and then suddenly it's like, BAM! Race to the finish line in 3 to 5 hours. Bizarre storytelling for sure.

Now i understand the reason the dev do not build the relationship between the two any closer because this time it's different than FF VII with Aerith. It's now a penultimate combined sacrifice, one of a queen, and one of a king. Yeah, took me a while to understand it all. They are too deep.

Perhaps, stabbing Luna is a mercy from Adyrn, to prevent her from becoming an abomination like him for absorbing too much starscourge....

why won't they introduce multiple endings, as in the original game ending is the good ending. and in the bad ending noctis just walks away from all this with his bros and luna ...

The Re - Return This is not Bioware. Some narratives aren't meant to have multiple endings.

The saddest part about this scene is it asks for a pay off it doesn't deserve. Really wish we could have seen more of Luna's and Noct's relationship so I could actually believe they're in love when she dies. Yeah, she was his pen pal, but a tragic romance? It's just not believable from a players stand point.

Was she sick before her death?

Can I just reiterate that Ignis cared about Noctis so much that he was fucking blind and couldn’t even face Noctis when he told him news that would destroy him? That little detail really fucks me up tbh.

So luna always gets stabbed?

i tried to think about something positive that Luna died. i said to myseld," awww! Noctis feet is so smol!!! 😂😂😋" *SO SMOL!!!!!!!* but, i still cried when Noctis cried...

Spoiler . . 1) Ardyn needed Noctis at full power ASAP, he waited 2000 years to destroy Noct's bloodline, the crystal and he wanted to die (he is unable to die). Killing Luna will force her to hand over the ring to Noct immediately. Also, this stopped the two from having baby and continue the bloodline. 2) Ardyn enjoyed torturing Noct as a revenge of Noct's ancestor's betrayal. You can see him continually playing mind games with Noct through out. 3) Luna has healing power, if she lives, there is a risk to his chance of eliminating Noct's bloodline. In this scene, Luna chose to heal Noct instead of herself. 4) Ardyn and Luna are both Oracle, Ardyn can see in the future that Luna will destroy him in the end, so he killed Luna. Unfortunately, the prophecy comes true, Luna indeed destroyed Ardyn's soul at the end in the after life, prevents him from re-born again. -- That's why Luna said stuff about prophecy fulfilled and Ardyn said but you die first. That's what I've got from the game

ok thanks! great explaination one more question i do have: why is ardyn able to warp around like a god??? spawning like a daemon sounds plausible but he does endure daylight as well, in the game something along the line of time manipulation was said, but it feels like lazy explaination

Ardyn was initially chosen to be King hence he had the power exactly like Noctis. He healed people by sealing deamon inside him, which makes the Crystal rejecting him and Noctis' ancestor's betrayed him. The Deamon power makes him immortal.

Mad Dawg first of all, spoilers ahead. I'm not so sure on him being an oracle. If he was the first king, possibly the one receiving the crystal on the cover of Cosmogeny, there is distinctly a woman chosen from House Fleuret that is meant to accompany the king in protecting mankind after the War of the Six. Also, Ardyn's taunting in the final battle and even with some of the mind games seem to not only be laced with the spite he's carried for so long...but seemed a little forced at times too, as if he's goading Noctis into finishing the job. Even Gladio had to yell at Noctis to get him to continue on the journey and not give up...perhaps the antagonism is Ardyn's way of giving Noctis a reason to end him instead of being the reluctant prince he was as things started to get ugly. I think Noctis picked up on it in the end, like Luna did when she addressed Ardyn - he was a man begging for death but trapped by the darkness he initially was tasked to end. Depending on how you look at the story, Ardyn's story is incredibly tragic at what is hinted at. He was chosen to end the scourge, then betrayed by his family, his gods, and may have lost the oracle from his age (who may or may not have been close to him). He's forced to wander the world for 2000 years until enough light has accumulated in the Lucis Caelum line and the Crystal to be able to destroy that which keeps him alive. And then he has to urge a reluctant prince all the way to him accepting his role as the Chosen King. The 2nd Chosen. The contingency plan since the original backfired. Ardyn accepts his death at the end...the resistance seen in the Beyond is the starscourge putting up one final resistance to its destruction, one that gets halted by a certain someone in the end.

Yeah, the game mention Ardyn was the 1st chosen King, Noctis was the 2nd chosen. What does that make of King Regis and the rest of his bloodline? I assume they are not chosen but merely working for the Crystal Gods.
