I love this ending because it is realistic. Yuna accepts that Tidus is gone and she moves on. Something that we all have to do at one point.

This is, in my opinion, the best ending. It shows real good writing and resolution, and it pairs with the ending FMV the best I think. Games need to stop offering empty "good" resolutions and focus on gripping character development and conveyance of emotion, like good art does.

@@NaokiSummoner I wouldn't call it empty and I don't think games do that at all honestly. I just think it would be nice to have a fusion of this ending and the perfect ending. While the perfect ending is my preferred ending as it makes the most sense, emotionally the sad ending is very fitting for Yuna but it also makes this whole journey seem like kind of a waste. I'd prefer if they made a different Sequal entirely with Ronso, Lulu, wakka and Rikku (well maybe not Lulu because she's preggo) and have them journey to find their conclusions instead of this weird... Pop nonsense...

Such a satisfyingly realistic and cathartic resolution to Yuna’s character growth.

The only sad part about this ending is that they didn’t animate it as a cinematic

Beautiful and sad at the same time. That's the beauty of "Final Fantasy". Bittersweet and empathic.

I love that in this ending, the screen that says the end only has one seagull rather than the 2 in the perfect ending, meaning that those seagulls represent tidus and yuna, it's a small detail but a cool one

I just finished this game again after 20 years and noticed this detail for the very first time. Striking indeed.

I love this ending because is cathartic, and that's mature and realistic, touches something in everyone, about surviving a loss and moving on

This ending straight up made me cry when I first saw it so many years ago. It was so... brutal? Like you expected a happy ending, rainbows and sunshine, for something to somehow, someway, turn out alright. And I think a major reason why this ending has so much sting is, it's the *realistic* option. It's such a slap in the face. Tidus and all the people Sin took are fucking dead. There's no coming back and there's nothing Yuna or anyone else can do to change that. It's such a mature but also stone-cold way to end the story. It's also a great moment for Yuna's character development, as she moves on towards a new chapter of life. She accepts the death of her lover and the loss Sin caused, she learns from it and becomes stronger, and she moves on. Because games are so oversaturated with the Hero winning 90% of the time, having an ending where the protagonist gets basically nothing was really unexpected. This ending is so blunty real-life it was kind of a shock, especially in such an upbeat and goofy game.

This was the first ending I got and honestly it ruined me. Its beautiful but so so sad. I love the perfect ending because I hate sad stories, but in all honestly this is probably a better ending for the story.

It's "sad" they can't be together like they were before, but it is also beautiful. Tidus gets to rest and Yuna gets to experience acceptance. She learns to move on with her life, while still fully loving him. It is one of the hardest things we do when we lose someone and it is demonstrated so kindly in that scene.

perfect ending for yuna. accepting and being free despite her fate from the first game, i love this game and seeing her mature and grow

If I'm not mistaken, in the original version, Yuna is smiling when she said "I love you" and left. Why is her face sad here? :(

@@Jed-Rix The visual emotions on the face have been significantly scaled down. I think it read it was due to the devs losing some important animation files and they had to redo a lot of the faces.

I actually think the sad face matches more here. She's sad because she finally has to let go but she also knows it's the necessary thing to do.

Came here to check if there were supposed to be visuals for this scene. Playing this on my vita but it's all audio and subtitles. I can't see the credits either lmao

The sad ending is too much for me to handle. FFX ending was too depressing and I dont want FFX-2 to end with the sad ending as well. Rather, ffx-2 should've just kept it with the good and perfect ending. Tidus wanted to be with Yuna forever. It just wasnt fair for him to find out that he was a "dream" and have to disappear towards the end. Plus, I'm not the type who work my ass from the beginning and find out the ending is sad. FFX-2 needs to stay as a happy ending because Tidus and Yuna coincidentally have to accept what's not in their favor in the end of the first game, IMO....

I don't understand why people want only good or bad endings. You have the choice which is the best possible scenario for everyone surely?

I wish this was the canonical ending

I wonder if the 100% completion ending was made for players who cannot accept a sad epilogue. Confused linking the story from part 1 where Tidus has sacrificed his life, suddenly popped into the epilogue with no scientific explanation on how he got revived. Share me the link if any forum found the story behind

Stupid ending. People play video games to escape the harsh realities of life. They're suppose to have happy endings. Why make a game depressing when life is already depressing? Give people an outlet.

Not everyone sees this as harsh or depressing. The theme of ffx was moving forward, breaking a cycle, and the impact of sacrifice (for better or worse). Ffx2 is also about moving forward, but acknowledging and at times respecting what came before, and that the remnants and good parts can still be cherished, as well as mourned. While i love that yuna can get tidus back, this ending where she gets to say what she couldn't in the original, shows that she's let go of the pain she had, and can appreciate everything tidus was and gave to her without losing herself to grief.

How is it a sad ending when we see fiends actually having fun?

In case u haven't found it yet: The song's name is "Yunas Ballad".

When I played it, I got screwed on a tiny 0.2% completion somewhere (by speed skipping through that 30 minute dialogue from that old coot), and because of that I finished with 99.8% completion and got this BS ending. I was so effing mad... Fortunately there's KZread so I got to watch the perfect ending that I WANTED to see.
