@noartblock noartblock what would that realistically be about though? I love both ffx and ffx-2, but the whole story has been told. There is nothing left to it. Even the whole Vegnagun plot of ffx-2 feeled a bit tacked on if you ask me

I just want to say, thank you for representing such an amazing game and franchise. FFX was a huge part of my youth and its awesome to see someone keeping it alive today.

Cool video! In terms of the Tidus thing...I think Baaj temple did good enough job to convey a "cold and alone" vibe without getting too sappy with dialogue, etc. Tidus is a good character. Hes flawed and needy but hes also been plucked from his home where he was famous, successful, etc...Flaws give a character dimension. I think a lot of FF players see a dark/mysterious protagonist with a big sword and think "OMG cool!!!11" and anyone thats not Cloud often gets pushed aside. FFX is the best.

hearing about the delusion system reminds me of the scene where Tidus is asking about the Farplane in Guadosalam. he imagines the ghosts and shivers to which Wakka responds "you thinking those funny thoughts again." i think that was a hold over/remnant of this system.

I was thinking the same thing. It makes a lot of sense. The scene at the farplane really made no sense whatsoever, but now hearing this, it kind of makes sense that that would be remnants left over from the original.

Came here to say the exact same thing. That scene always seemed so out of place to me as there aren’t any others like it in the game. I bet they just thought it was too funny to cut because I think it is definitely a relic of that system

That Delusion system makes a lot of sense considering that the game is all about dreams being summoning into existence And maybe Rikku was supposed to join at some other point and in Guadosalam some other character would have joined, knowing the Guado language

Now that I think about it, it would be kind of strange to see Tidus making a fire and surviving in the middle of nowhere, considering he grew up in modern day, futuristic luxury of Zanarkand

But if Yuna claimed to have met Jecht at an early age, wouldn’t she have noticed something about Tidus because of the Zanarkand Abe’s symbol they both had?

In the final version yuna did notice something about Tidus that’s the only reason she let him go with the group

It sounds like a lot of scrapped content was repurposed for the Kingdom Hearts series. The figures in black hoods mentioned in the previous video and the opening on an island, the main character wishing he can get away from the island. Anyways, very interesting stuff. Keep up the good work Dansg08!

I recently finished ffx for the first time and absolutely loved it. It’s awesome to hear things like this and to learn about what an alternate ffx could’ve been like

I loved reading about the Guado language, that was probably my favorite thing I learned from the Ultimania. It would have been cool to have that added to the fleshed out Guado culture. I wonder what it would have sounded/looked like and whether being able to conceal secrets in another language would have made an interesting plot point for Seymour.

Kinda disappointing how a lot of stuff has been axed… Pretty much a lot of the pictures FFX wants to show you have been drawn exquisitely… But was never really painted in. Instead of Tidus just saying that he feels lonely, he should’ve been cooking up some fish, as well as have small parts of his clothes tattered, his stomach rumbles, and for him to look out into an open window somewhere… Then when he looks out, the camera pans and we get a hauntingly beautiful sweeping shot of something. Kinda criminal how these things were missed, but this game was made in ~2001 and they had a year’s worth of development on this thing so… Square still gets a thumbs-up in my book!

the delusion/imagination system reminds me of the scene where they first go into the farplane and tidus is trying to wrap his head around how the farplane works and he imagines a load of ghost fiends floating around him. perhaps that could be a leftover from the delusion system?

I like how you pronounce his name as "Tide-us" cuz honestly it makes so much more sense for a superstar athlete named "Jecht" to name his kid after a cool sounding word like "Tide"

Thanks for the info here Berk, got some great insight into the origins of the game. I had a question though regarding the "delusion system." You mentioned that after the "delusion" Tidus would talk to a character and your supposition is that it would operate similarly to the affection system currently in place. I was wondering if the translation or interview made it clear that it would be a party member that Tidus would talk to or not. It always seemed to me that there was room for more interaction between Tidus and Bahamut's fayth in the final product so part of me is wondering if perhaps the "delusions" might have him interacting with the fayth in a more substantial manner throughout the story through post "delusion" dialogue trees. Anyways I love the content and it got me thinking which I can always count on you for. Thanks for all the hard work and I'm looking forward to the next video.

I normally do not bother correcting peoples spelling but in this case it might be warranted. To "incite" means to start something while "insight" means to look within. I'm not trying to be rude in anyway, just trying to be helpful.

Do you intend to dive into the contents of other games' ultimania books? There's plenty of reworked concepts and contents in almost every game, and much of this is documented on these books since the 3d age (ff7 onwards). it would be an amazing content to follow

Wandering / Wandering Flame, in case someone reads this and is curious.

The scrapped Baaj script where he's grilling fish for days on the island sounds similar to Celes in the WoR. Wonder if it was scrapped for being derivative.

So I think Seymour might have been the guado that was going to join the party. Aesthetic wise, he really do fit in with the group. Being that he is a temp character in the final game, and a summoner, the note feel like a valefor second overdrive type thing. The delusion system could had been based on Auron. Up until auron joined the party, this delusion system could be based on the stories auron used to tell tidus when he would come to dream zanarkand. Tidus is just filling in the blanks with whatever option the player chose.

I really wish we could see how the original script played out in an actual video game

Dont the guado have their own speak? Its out of fashion and some of the npc dialogue the first time you go to guadosalam suggest this, but I dont know if it would constitute its own language 5:28

It's literally just power play by yevon I think... I mean look at bevelle, the seat of yevon; basically a machina city. Understanding the 1000 year war between bevelle (machina) and zanarkand (summoners) and us knowing that sin is essentially yu yevon just continuing his war against machina makes these plot threads make a little more sense. What doesn't make sense is that vegnagun was under zanarkand the entire time and nobody knew about it not did sin notice it

I like these ideas.... It makes Tidus come off more like a cancer ♋.... Annoyingly emotional prone to frequent day dreams... Little home ec talents like cooking.... It's clear Tidus is annoying cause he was meant to be, but they edited out all the strengths in it like being able to cook etc
