The ice in the macalania temple may be created by the airships cooling system as id say they run some sort of atomic reactor. Or maybe thats what the macalania spheres where first designed for. To keep reactors cold. Imagine the advancements we could make with the temple spheres that for some reason can not leave there temple. One creates lightning.

This makes a lot of sense and im glad you posted this to confirm. It reinforces a theory I had while playing through the game. While playing the game,I always felt like the game went more out of its way to try and make it feel like youre being randomly attacked by sin or that you're chasing him throughout the game. When replaying it, I realized that we weren't chasing sin,sin was there with tidus through the whole journey. Sin got tidus safely to besaid and waited under the temple to listen to the fayth. FFX2 confirms every temple was connected by tunnels with the whole vegnagun thing and every temple also had water below it). So once the party leaves besaid to head to killika it looks like youre attacked by sin. The story spins it as sin was attacking killika and youre trying to steer it away from the city, which of course doesn't work but I'm thinking sin wasn't attacking killika,I think he was going under the temple to listen to the fayth. He didn't blast it with his energy field it was just a tidal wave. The game made it seemed like sin always comes back for his sin spawn--but it would be more logical a sin spawn fell off of sin from him already being near the temple before the party, the game never says or shows where he swims off to so id assume he made it to the temple while everyone else did repairs and the sending. It felt like sin was always one step just ahead of the party guiding them,he didn't really have a base he just chilled at like bosses of other games and there are never sin attacks happen except for a radious if where the party is. That's just what I think anyways and of course I don't have proof.

I'm not trying to be that guy here but I thought this was common knowledge tbh. To me it's the only thing that makes sense when you consider how Sin picks your party up to carry them to Bikanel. I can't imagine Sin being that gentle with those big arms and unless he developed and used telekinesis for just that one occasion which seems unlikely. The game also not so subtly tells you in the cutscene (@9:50) with Auron shouting "The Ground!" followed immediately by Yuna shouting "Sin!?" implying the two are one in the same. Since I'm here I might as well share some more of my head cannon on why Sin is there and perhaps when he went there. Yes he was listening to the hymn but why from there? I believe there were two reasons: 1) As was mentioned in the vid he has been following Tidus on his journey and having done the pilgrimage himself knew where the next temple would be. 2) After Operation Mi'ihen Jecht felt bad about having to display his power and knew the hymm would calm him down. He got the point across to Tidus but that doesn't mean he liked doing it. Likely he went to the one place he could listen to the hymm without been seen/attacked by others i.e. under the lake. Maybe you could chalk this up to hardware limitations at the time but a detail I noticed under the lake is the fact that none of the buildings are dripping wet. All the water has pooled at the base of them. Given the game has dripping water in other locations it suggests that Sin has been there for a while. This also gives Sin another reason to want to move after the party land there. He's been found and needs to somewhere even more remote to hide once more.... a desert island perhaps. But hey that's just a theory a Ga.... Haha joking aside seeing the Sin model below the lake is awesome so thanks for showing it off.

I’m sure that Auron recognized where they were. He mentioned having rode Sin to Zanarkand. Which means that during Lord Braska’s Calm, Auron had time to die by Yunalesca’s hand, send Kimahri to Yuna, get a grip on being unsent (Evem Seymore GUADO didn’t just hop right back up), and then coordinate with Jecht. It makes the, “You’re late, Auron” at the ending much heavier in my opinion. Like a loaded joke.

@@levant5378 No, that's wrong. Zanarkand is a summon that physically exists near Baaj Temple and Sin is its guardian. It kills anything that comes too close which is why no one knows it is there. The Zanarkand escape sequence is when Current Sin is physically sticking his nose into the summon to drag Tidus and Auron out. Auron did ride Sin in an explicitly literal sense, probably as a collection of pyreflies but I have no hard evidence for that bit. Parts of the ruins of the original zanarkand are in sin though

  • @levant5378

@@jypsridic You do know that Ultimanias are not canon right? There is nothing to say that Dream Zanarkand is a physical place near Baaj temple other than the fact that Tidus wakes up there, which could be caused by anything, and the fact that a third party Ultimania said so. If anything, If you take the idea that Dream Zanarkand is a physical summon, then it would not be a hypothetical Dream city near Baaj, but the pillar on mount Gagazet. Seeing as how the water from the pillar turns to spheres containing the memories of each individual who was a part of the dream. Its very likely that every one of those individuals in those spheres each lived in their own smaller versions of the Dream Zanarkand, or shared it with loved ones. But yeah, Sin did take Auron to Dream Zanarkand to look after Tidus, and he then brought him back again to set him on his journey. I imagine the reason that Tidus got dropped off at Baaj was because Jecht didn't want to go near Besaid, or that its not controllable. Sin essetially is capable of cutting off parts of the Summon of Zanarkand and make it manafest on its own it Spira, I don't think we should assume he can control where they spawn into spira. After all, Jecht ended up in Spira because he apparently got too close to Sin while out at sea while it was in Dream Zanarkand, and seemingly ended up in Bevelle. So I don't think Sin could have picked up Jecht and dumped him in Bevelle without somebody seeing it.

I agree that the worldbuilding for 10 is amazing. I tried getting into other Final Fantasy games, but nothing really grabbed me the same way that Tidus' story did. Either they start off with not enough info or they tried frontloading the plot. Not enough information was kind of Tidus' whole thing, though; he was thrown from his world quite literally into one that he never could have thought about. The machina you fight, for example, would have been entirely new to him despite them being a common problem for Spira because Zanarkand never needed weapon technology.

I've beaten this game 10+ times and never noticed! When the cutscene shows Sin's full body, I just figured he was just "around" somewhere close and the ground shaking was produced by his overwhelming mass. I also just assumed that he transported the group to Bikanel the same way he transported Tidus and Auron from Zanarkand in the beginning. But this makes so much more sense! Sin really has been following them around!

  • @Yohfay

    @Yohfay

    2 жыл бұрын

He actually did transport them roughly the same way. The "Zanarkand" that Tidus is from is an actual real physical place. It's essentially one giant aeon in the form of the memory of Zanarkand as it was out in the ocean somewhere. That's what the fayth up on Mount Gagazet are summoning. Sin literally just kind of picked up Tidus and Auron and took them somewhere else. So, when Tidus disappears at the end of the game, he's disappearing along with that "dream Zanarkand" because they're all part of the same aeon that is effectively just dismissed like when Yuna unsummons one of her aeons.

I don't think we're meant to discover this tidbit because the game was originally made for a CRT TV and formatted to 4:3. So the zoom out under lake macalania doesn't fully reveal Sin's fins. on top of that when you save your game, the location detail doesn't fully reveal we're on top of sin. Up until this point, the only time we see a full close up of sins head revealing the city on top of it was when he attacked Kilika island, and watching that from the original non-hd version, the city isn't fully detailed or clear. Its not until you get to Zanarkand that you see this in full detail. With the HD remaster, these aesthetics are more clear.

I think on the special features disc on the making of it that Sins design where the ruins on its head were concerned were actually something the designers just figured were cool as a way of physically showing a representation of Sins origin. But with all else that follows inside Sin it was probably incorporated in as an important location too deeper down inside. Wouldn't surprise me if they did put that much thought into it during the whole project considering all the small things they did lore wise and visually. Alot of Sins earlier concept art was awesome but much simpler, also maybe a little freakier.

@@Cloudsouth Maybe the monstrous Sin we see in game (Sin VI) is not the same as Sin I. Each time a final aeon is possessed and 'reformatted' into the next incarnation it could have become more and more distorted. It's a misconception that Sin (at least the original) is an aeon. Dream Zanarkand is. Sin is a blob of pyreflies held together by gravity magic probably hastily constructed by Yu Yevon to be his own guardian when the rest of his citizens were gone, transformed into fayth on the mountain. Sin has only basic cognition, like a guard dog, to protect him, his summon at sea, and destroy machina. That last part worked too well and literal when it destroyed the original Zanarkand.

"How did everyone survive the fall into the ice" isn't very conclusive, as the main party in Final Fantasy always has plot armor. Think about Cloud falling off after the battle with a boss and is apparently just fine after falling a long distance, crashing through the roof of a church, and landing on some flowers. It's not unheard of for Final Fantasy characters to survive unsurvivable things in cutscenes, so that fall never gave me any reason to question what was happening.

  • @MusicoftheDamned

Yeah, I remember wondering but not really that much given other would-be fatal things that people in Final Fantasy games and other JRPGs have survived even in cutscenes. If anything, then that tendency tends to instead make you only question when the exact opposite happens with party members nearby given several easy methods of revival usually exist. But, no, those characters often just die because the plot demands they do, like with Aerith.

What trips me out the most about the world building in this game is the amount of small differences in the dialogue and people as the story progresses. On my latest playthrough, I've done a lot of backtracking for stuff I missed (Al Bhed Primers, Valefor's second overdrive, etc) and as I'm passing through the areas are NPCs that weren't there the first time in the areas. After Seymour makes the proposal to Yuna, if you backtrack through Moonflow and the Mushroom Rock, you see the Guado out patrolling the areas. Also, a great bit of dialogue changes with the other NPCs I've already talked to. They all start discussing about the wedding, bridging the gap between man and Guado, etc. Most people don't take the time to go back, that far, especially during their first playthrough, but the little details like this really add so much more credibility to the world. Legend of Heroes is the only other series I can think of that takes this similar amount of time and effort in making small differences.

You can recruit her onto your bliztball team and she's better than any of the original Aurochs!

  • @NFITC1

    @NFITC1

    2 жыл бұрын

I might be recalling incorrectly, but my impression is that it took a different form each time. Sin is the result of the Final Aeon merging with the spirit of the defeated Sin and/or the Summoner that summoned it. Therefore the Final Aeon must be more powerful than Sin in order to defeat it. The Sin we fight is the 100th or so Sin (since this cycle is about 10 years long and it's been going on for around a thousand years) and must be more powerful than each of the previous 99 Sins. It's been a while since I played it through and actually paid attention to any of it. FFX is probably my least favorite because the story isn't presented well.

@@NFITC1 Nope, but you are right to question any wonders like this you may have. All people are. But Sin itself remains the same upon each incarnation. While each Final Aeon is different in appearance due to each guardian being unique as its faith, the final Aeon is simply used as a core of power and a base for which Yu Yevon merges and then recreates Sin around. Sin is the armour that protects each unique core as well as himself. So Sin itself is not different but you are right in that the final Aeon is and some unique personality traits in each Sin may be slightly changed. A for the 100th Sin. That would be spot on if every pilgrimage every 10th year was successful, but not every single one was unfortunately. Sin sometimes was around a while depending on how long it took someone to destroy it. This can be gathered by counting the amount of tribute statutes in a temple but that is likely not a correct number either depending on room and tributes to failed summoners as well as high summoners etc.

I'm at 2:00 and I just want to make a guess beforehand that those buildings are where Tidus ends up after the Crusader/Al Bhed attack on Sin at Mushroom Rock. When he swims out and follows Sin, we get a sort of dream-like sequence with ghosts and images of what seem to be dead crusaders etc. I remember reaching the end of the game years ago and realizing that I'd seen the area before, specifically in that scene. - Adendum: So not what I was expecting, but funny enough I was just in this area in my current playthrough. I always thought this area was weird, but I never considered that Sin could be so far inland, randomly beneath us that whole time. It makes more sense to me now why the buildings look that way, and why the entire situation seems so out of place and mystical. There's always some sort of high fall, but this one takes the cake for me. Cloud on the bed of flowers has nothing on this. Traversing it I thought, oh wow, it's a real place. I never considered that we had simply been there before. Similar to the arena of the final fight with Jecht, which is that same area we swim through after Sin destroys Zanarkand in the intro. This game clearly has a lot of overlap between material reality and ethereal/spiritual reality, which not only suits the theme but also lends the story and world more depth. Beautiful. I love all of this.

There's 2 major points that are missing. Auron and tidus have a connection to sin, with auron asking tidus if he didn't feel anything when tidus touched sin. So they or at least auron would know it. Also, when sin arrives all of them look upwards

When you said that you'd give us a moment to think about it, I tried to go back to the beginning of the game when Sin knocks Tidus off of the Al Bhed ship. Once I saw the Wendigo, though, I realized where it was going. So cool to learn something new about a game I've played so often on so many different consoles since its release!

I did not know of this awesome discovery. Thank you for sharing it. I really enjoyed your video. I also really enjoy all your other Final Fantasy videos.

Man, I never even thought of this before this video and now it makes sense how they went from the ice level to the desert so abruptly.

I thought this was a commonly known thing! The FMV was the biggest hint telling me you were standing on him. But also how Tidus mentions Jecht was always singing the hymn of the fayth when he was around. And how when the song stops he starts stirring again and you are transported. I love this game :)

If you talk to Lulu the game zooms out and shows the whole map, including sins fins and everything.

When I played this last time this is what I thought happened. Been a while, but I do believe one of the reasons I thought we landed on Sim is because someone in the game mentioned he enjoyed listening to the hymm from the temple. Which is also why they get everyone to sing it to calm sin down later in the game

Ahhhh mann! I’ve watched you ffx walkthrough probably 6 times through. The last couple times I questioned it. Just how they do that short video of sun. Made me wonder. Another reason to watch your play through for a 7th time!

Yeah I didn't think about it until starting this video but I realized it as you were talking about how there's another time when you're on sin's back.

So amazing this game that we've all been playing since childhood keeps on giving. If you aren't already, I highly recommend checking out Resonant Arc's on going deep dive analysis of FFX. They really dive into certain aspects like symbolism and it's ties to real world theology / culture.

As soon as you said that you'd been there before I knew exactly which part it was, but I'd never have connected that. I always thought that those ruins were so bizarre every time I played it and now I know why.

I cannot believe I didn't think of this before. This answers all of my questions about that scene.

This is just so incredible. I’m 100% going to spend some time on no clip soon checking out FFX-2 if it’s on there. Very curious to see how the environments have changed considering you visit the same locations but sometimes the camera angle is adjusted differently. Would be interesting to see what’s off screen in those scenarios.

Wild! I thought this was something everyone picked up on back when the game released on PS2; didn't realize a lot of folks missed it. Definitely another cool little story thing FFX did in the background

🤯 This is my favorite Final Fantasy (not an mmo) and have played through it at least a dozen times. Never ever thought about. This was so neat to learn

Thanks for the effort you put into this video, I love things like this but don't have the time or inspiration myself to do this kind of research. I really appreciate everything you do regarding the FF series. I recently watched the marathon ffx remastered movie you put together. And again I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate that somebody out there took the time to record and edit it all together. You sir. Are a gentleman and a scholar. Keep up the great work my friend
