This is why Wakka is so important of a character. He is a Yevonite: a devout follower bordering on zealotry. He represents so much in Spira: kindness and bigotry wrapped up in one person. Yet, he grows and changes with each revelation. Rather than losing himself, he learns, eventually accepts the changes, and changes himself; he becomes a better person. He is the old world, coming to terms with the new. He even helps usher it in.

He is a well written charachter. He is a very realistic charachter. Raised with certain believes, and gets angry when something contradicts his beliefs. But he learns and adapts, not perfectly, he is so human. A very well written charachter.

Later in the game Wakka apoligises to the Al Bhed. then Cid says a line that i hold to this day when i see different races. "there are all kind of people in this world..some of them good some of them bad" it shows you can't lable a whole race for what a few do. videogames can have the best advice you can learn anywhere.

@@ToHoldNothing You need to talk to Wakka after the scene with Cid and Auron before the Bevelle attack (the wedding scene). Cid mentioned Yuna is his niece and thats where Wakka figured out Yuna is half al bhed.

Al Bhed Translation == Brother: Rikku! Don't interfere or you get this! Your precious magic and aeons are sealed! Rikku: Oh no! Tidus: Translation? Rikku: He's going to use an anti-magic field on us Brother: Get them! Brother: Rikku! I will tell Father! Rikku: I am the guardian of Yuna, you see? Yuna is safe! We will guard her! She is safe! Brother: You do this alone, sister!

Rikku: "You sure you know how to drive this?" *Kimahri gives no fucks then drives off* Tidus: "Better than Kimahri does!" Lmfao!

I swear this game had me become self aware at 9 years old with this one scene.

If Rikku wanted to shut Wakka down she should have responded with, "Where did Yevon come from? If Yevon hadn't shown up then maybe neither would have Sin!" Interestingly by Games end, that is 100% accurate.

And what if promoting some of those values does the opposite? So i made a new religious cult. God of Obvious Good and Evil. The real truth. But problems lies more with organizations that has existed for generations.. they tell their children.. they become parents and do the same. Its a circle in a sense because nobody challenges them if they really are right. But yeah

It is lovely to look back in our past and see how much we can learn from games... I will have my kids (If I have some) playing FF, there is a lot of interesting discussions about prejudice and religious common sense. Will be my favorite game of the series forever.

They actually did like each other in the beginning but midway when Wakka finds out Rikku is Al Bhed, he starts being a jerk. He gets along with her again after Home though

I always wanted to punch Wakka in the face after this scene. I felt so bad for Rikku :(

One of the few moments where Tidus and Lulu get to have their own scene together. They talk with other in other parts but other people are always present.

Wakka has no idea about their eyes. If he did, he would have questioned Auron about it when Auron asked to see Rikku's eyes. But he didn't, and likely just thought "Auron be pulling some sage wisdom shit looking into her eyes to see if she's worthy." because, I mean, none of them really dared to question Auron's experience since he was a VERY renowned guardian.

There is a lot more to it than that. The Al Bhed were low class factory workers who made machina in order to keep up in a world run by mages(anyone who could not use magic was seen as a second-class citizen). Eventually Bevelle caught on what they were doing and on the threat of execution, they comissioned them to build weapons for them. Naturally when Sin showed up, the Al Bhed were blamed for it.

"Sin will be gone once we atone for our past mistakes" and in the end, Wakka was right...

... except he WASN'T right. Yu Yevon created Sin to preserve Zanarkand, get revenge on Bevelle, and to oppress/control the people of Spira by destroying any large settlements/halting technological advancement. Sin wasn't "born" from lack of atonement. Sin is just a personification of oppression and denial. Yu Yevon refused to accept Zanarkand being destroyed. Had nothing to do with atoning for past mistakes: that was a false pretense for Yevon to control Spira, if you paid attention at all to the story. Wakka even admitted he was wrong himself.

@@shanemccormick8667 Correct, Maechen says that Bevelle made it all up(Yevon's Teachings and the Temple) because they were afraid of Sin and thought that by worshiping Yevon, they'd be spared.

Yevon (the religion) convinced spira that sin existed because of their actions, their 'sins', and only the entire world being fully 'attoned' would end it. All a lie, as Yunalesca revealed later in telling them "could humanity ever reach such purity" more or less mocking them, showing it was all a fraud. That was the breaking point for people like Lulu and wakka.

To the Yevonites yes. When Sin first appeared, the people blamed the Al Bhed for it as they were the ones that made Bevelle's weapons on the threat of execution.

Actually it is. Original and Remaster versions use different text fonts, that's how you can tell.

Listening to Wakka is like listening to Christians. Good on him for growing up during the game, though.

This is as far as I got. I never beat this game. Kept getting blasted away by that damn cannon they pulled out. This argument between Wakka and Rikku reminds me of the relationship between the Samaritans (Rikku) and the Jews (Wakka), as briefly described in the Bible.

Who else here attacked/killed wakka as soon as you enter the 1st battle after this scene?

It’s inconsistent. Rikku & Wakka are pretty excellent because both characters could easily be super unlikable. A lot of other characters are well-cast but poorly directed

This is the first FF with voice acting at all. It was pretty revolutionary for it’s time. But I guess I’m from a different gaming generation where you had to read everything and voice acting didn’t exist
