Funny story: I had forgotten to pick up the crest/sigil that's in Yunalescas room after the boss fight, so I accidentally locked it behind Dark Bahamut. My only option was to grand summon Yojimbo and pray for the Zanmato. Got it on the first try. Easiest Dark Aeon ever.

Damn that was quick. I remember when i was a kid i trained so hard for this battle, and while i beat "accidently" Dark Anima (i just wanted to check if i could make enough damage) i knew i was ready for Bahamut. I didn't know that the party could survive his Mega Flare though. Well at least my party didn't. Good Job man! Was entertaining while eating my pizza :-)

@@Cactuardude yup, I was just testing my setup and rotation. And „accidentally“ bested the shit out of that two faced maniac.

The hardest thing about the dark aeons isn't the fights themselves, rather, its the prep needed. The ultimate weapons, all the rare items for Rikku, and making the perfect armor for each character to suit the boss. And Ofcourse, the leveling and sphere collecting.

Rikku is Aweome :3 playing the remastered version, cant wait to be able to fight this beast

Man. FF7, FF8, and FF9 damage does not even compare to this.

It's actually not that bad, the hardest part is getting all the matierials to nullify the status ailments they cause by fucking BREATHING.

Yeah, I know. I'll be going back on the HD version now that I'm better at RPGs and taking them on (my version has no Dark Aeons, unfortunately).

Your an amazing ff player. i´ve also been playing ffx for years, and studying the entire game. i got one question. cant you really decrease the dmg of the overdrive of the dark aeons by taking guard position with triangle or when the own aeon goes in guard position?? please answer, greetings from austria

The fasted wayto beat dark aeons with using zanmato (don't hope so much on it). The other way is : 1. have better stat especially speed and attack power. 2. have proper equipment like celestial weapon and at least auto-phoenix and auto-haste 3. make sure you charge all your character overdrive before you fight dark aeons 4. when you fight, USE WAKKA OVERDRIVE attack Reels 5. then, use spesial ENTRUST to transfer overdrive gauge to wakka 6. then USE WAKKA OVERDRIVE attack Reels again If by any chance wakka damage reach 99999 that would be 99999 damage X 12 attack times from perfect attack reels X 7 character to recharge Wakka overdrive. That will be more than 7 millions damage. Why attack reels and not blitz ace ? Because its easier to reach 99999 damage using attack reels and have many hits.

Yes I saw that several times of course; I wasn't aware Impulse inflicted Full Break. I haven't played the game in like four years.

@nathanblue14 - farm 99 Dark Matters by fighting Dark Yojimbo, or the armors will drop with a BHL+Ribbon on it's own, then save the game and restart the game again to start over.

Dark Yojimbo is the best part of beating him 5 times! You can get the chance of winning Break HP Limi + Ribbon Armors from him if lucky. When you do for each character, save the game, and reset. Saves a lot of time than farming 99 Dark Matters. :)

I applaud you. I did not have the patience to go up against the Dark Aeons lol. Maybe when the remake/re-release comes i'll find the time XD. Where did you go to grind the Exp? Within Sin?

I know that you commented ages ago, but attack reels never does 99,999 on certain bosses, like Dark Aeons or Penance. 255 is the max strength stat. When I did my sphere grid, I didn't really make a plan so I ended up giving Wakka what would be like 320 strength, if there were no upper limit. Attack reels never did 99,999 on Dark Aeons and certain other bosses.

You didn't see it? His Impulse inflicts Full Break, Slow and Delay. That's why Tidus dealt with 99999 damage and not Wakka or Rikku.

I remember the first time I ever came across a Dark Aeon. I was innocently re-visiting a town and BAM! Game Over D: I then couldn't stop running into them by accident after that.

Ha... That guy wasn't even good enough to be my fake.

Do you not see Dark Bahamut cast Impulse? I need to use Dispel on all 3 to prevent from dying..Impulse Inflicts Full Break: Power Break, Armor, etc. lol

I have the original US version, so I never got to face the Dark Aeons and Penance. When the HD version comes out later this year or early next year, I'll finally be able to take them on. xD

Yes , and the best place to farm gil's is monster arena, when you sell a lot of weapons and armors earned from Monster arena bosses.

It works for Valefor, Irfit, Ixion and Shiva. But its suicide against the rest of the Dark Aeons because they can stone-scatter your characters(im not sure if the Magus Sisters can do it though).

I personally think you can save a lot of turns by skipping OD and use only Quick hit. HP problem can be fixed with megalixir on Quick use. Also, Yuna might be the best character for farming, with her relatively short attack animation and 1MP cost ability.

Why Master Sphere Grid? i've heard it has less nods and it's smaller than the normal sphere grid...

so where do you grind for experience after you kill sin? i heard theres a thing where if you equip an item it converts overdrive to AP, is that in this game?

Yup, is a tactic using that particular weapons (maybe also equipped with Triple Overdrive and AP x 3) and fighting against Master Tomberry into the Zoolab.

hey i have a question that i cannot find an answer on google and i hope you know it. You know when you first get auron in your group and the armored fiend appears and when you attack it they call in auron and you use him to kill it. what happens if you kill it in one shot as tidus?

interesting enough I beat him by creating the effect of a 9th summon to deal with mega flare. I used every summon I had to deal with his mega flare.

I missed this game on ps2... (HOW?!) and i own the hd remaster. I'm on my second ever playthrough, simply because I missed Tidus' sigil the first time through, and I had to get through this guy to get to it...

I am always amazed by how much effort people have put into getting the 255 stats from the monster arena. When i did these Dark Aeons i just maxed the grid with 3 people and double cast spammed i believe Ultima ? (Been a good while) But i killed them all just doing that, granted it didn't work with penance and two of the monster arena boss's (think the omega weapon was one of them) saved a whole lot of time though i bet lol

319 hours plays before attempting Dark Bahumut... I'm not a veteran by any means, but i'm on 169 hours and i'm about to attempt him.

lol...255 Luck is equal to 255 Evasion and Accuracy. And I wanted to remove Eva. & Acc. nodes to replace for HP's. Plus removing some Agility to 170+ is good enough. =D

Final Fantasy is made with great music, nice plots, strategic fighting, epic situations and beautiful ambiances, in other words, what most games lack nowadays, although there're many exceptions, when FF was awesome, there were plenty of alternatives to play, but these days, I found myself buying just FF; Zelda and Tales of, with some exceptions as Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, The Last of Us, Xenoblade.

It takes off Slow. That's why you need Auto-Haste for the battles. And Dispel gets rid of the Full Break that Bahamut inflicted the characters. =)

if u get 255 luck stat , u dont need any accuracy notes in sphere grid and only 60 evasion, giving u space for tons of health spheres, myself i dont even see point in magic stat either, i hardly ever use magic to deal damage on enemys.

Idk why people keep going for the max health. It really isn't needed.

impulse causes all breaks so you have to dispel those, if you're not his next impulse would kill you. no matter how good your stats are.

I would assume he did slice because Blitz Ace takes a long time for the animation to go through, speeds up the fight.

xMITEBDOODOOx blitz ace does less damage than slice and dice and has a higher delay time. its pretty bad imo, but it has a cool animation

So I never decided to play this far, fighting the Dark Aeons, so some of the tactics are unknown to me.... Can anyone tell me why he keeps using Dispel on his characters from time to time? Frequently, actually? I assume he would *want* to keep whatever enchantments are on his characters, on his characters. Any help?

Lol yeah, I know. Problem is, when I made that comment, I was new to FF and RPGs and my Yuna was horribly underleveled and taking the wrong path, so my Aeons weren't too powerful.

lol..I was following the GameFaqs on how to put the Sphere Grid to 99999 HP. Turns out my Calculation was okay...as long as everyone's Accuracy & Evasion were removed from the grid it's fine.

i didn't understand ... why Dispel ?

this is why they really put the song Challenge in the game..

@CommercialAtrophy FF7 was pretty great, but ya gotta try FFX. Great battle system, sphere grid was a nice idea also. Loved the story, IMHO! It was my favorite FF to date. Sill play it :p

lol the time at the bottom: 319:29...I rarely play and I have to go through it twice a week or three times a day. =)

My one and only issue with the Dark Aeons is that, there really isn't that much incentive for the player to defeat them. When you actually face them, you probably already have the Celestial Weapons, and their drops are usually vendor trash -- this was resolved in Final Fantasy XIII-2, which varies ultimate weapons to be contextual, but nothing is even remotely as good as Celestial in FFX, making the Aeons pretty much boil down to brownie points. I hope they address this in the HD remix.

You need to have either the PAL (European) version or the International version to fight the Dark Aeons.

Holy crap. With that mega flare. All my characters might be dead now. My hp are around maybe 60k? I don't rember haha.

i played this game when i was like 9 loved the game never beat it tho got where he kissed yuna then stopped there its one of the best games of all time wish they remade it for the xbox or playstation

I was like "this game is easy.. lalala" but when Valefor appeared, I had to think again :D And dumb as I was, the same happened to me with Bahamut ("Let's go back and explore some more - wait, what?!"). I'll never underestimate an enemy again...^^

Yeah, they aren't in the US version. I would use an emulator to run the International version on my computer, but it's way too weak to run a PS2 emulator. I'll wait for the HD version, since I find that superbosses (like Yiazmat of XII) are most rewarding when you grind to the top. Cheers to you, too! :D

this isnt the normal aeons you defeat to get yunas ultimate weapon? I dont remember fighting dark aeons

The aeons you fight to get Yunas Sigil for her ultimate weapon are in a temple next to the calm lands (you fight Belgemine's aeons for that), the dark aeons are the true challenges of FFX, Omega weapon has nothing on these guys, once you defeat them all, you can fight the ultimate boss in the game, Penance, who has 12 million HP (not to mention his arms have half a mil hp each AND they regenerate). So yeah, dark aeons and the yuna weapon aeons are different.

Renzolionheart yeah I know you fight her aeons inside sin, I forgot that part its been so long since I played, I remember the music, but I never fought the dark ones tho, I guess that was the international version, which hopefully is the one thats coming out for ps3 so I'll get to play it:)

Yeah that's the final battle essentially :) The dark ones were on the international and PAL versions, but not NTSC, but the HD version is international so everyone can fight them :)

Impulse Breaks your armor completely and induces slow and stone (shatter). You see him using "Dispel" on Wakka and Rikku to remove the armor breaks which is why they didn't take the full damage and Tidus did.
