I litterly spent a lot of time having "Dates" with Arith in the game. I'm not a fan of Minigames in games. And if Arith wasn't in the game ill zoom past the Gold Saucer and never wasted time or gil on it. But cause of Airth I made a ton of dates.

That clearly shows that Cloud was meant to go on the date with Aerith & kiss Aerith's hand and would have if the player wasn't making choices for him, like in the resolution section of FF7 Remake part 1.

COMMON MISCONCEPTION. Cloud does not possess Zack’s memories and therefore he doesn’t act like as if he was possessed by him. He just claimed Zack’s accomplishments, not his feelings. If you really played the OG, the whole point of Cloud’s identity crisis is that Sephiroth was able to make him believe that he is just his puppet by letting him assumed that his false recollection of the Nibelheim tragedy is true. Thus, when the truth was revealed to him - that it was actually Zack in his place (and forgetting that he was there too when the tragedy happened), he suddenly questioned his existence as a real person and/or doubt that he had his own free will (when during the OG course of events, Sephiroth was able to make him do things against his liking because of the JENOVA cells injected inside him.) He was thinking that maybe Sephiroth was right about him being just his remnant (that he was just like the black hooded people or Kadaj gang in AC). That’s how the war hero planning to get even with Cloud - to destroy him mentally and emotionally by invalidating his feelings (look back to Sephiroth’s last words to Cloud after killing Aerith - he invalidated Cloud’s feelings and told him he was just a puppet.) But, thankfully, the lifestream sequence happened, with the help of Tifa (and Aerith for making sure they survived from the exposure to the lifestream - lorewise, if I wouldn’t assume it was Aerith who aid them - like how it was told in the ex-canon novel The Maiden Who Travels the Planet -, I doubt that the two could ever get out alive), they were able to isolate and pinpoint that Cloud had distorted memories of that event only. And he was starting to remember that he was there too when the tragedy happened (Tifa was only informed at that time too because she didn’t know too), while he also realized all his other past memories remained intact and are true being a real resident of Nibelheim. In that lifestream scene, we found out that Tifa and Cloud had an accident and Cloud was blamed for it. Tifa and Cloud weren’t close back when they were kids because of the boys surrounding her made him an outcast. That’s why, at the start, she was having a hard time convincing him that they were indeed childhood friends, even about their promise scene being true because it’s the only time they had an actual interaction. But nevertheless, she was the only living witness to validate Cloud’s existence. Cloud just went out there assuming he was a 1st Class SOLDIER because the mako poisoning messed up how his brain functions. Thus, with poor cognitive performance, he associated himself so much with Zack’s accomplishments as a SOLDIER (and you may say that part of the reason is ‘becoming a SOLDIER’ is Cloud’s failed dream/frustration). Psychologists might be able to explain it better how it works if we will apply real-life logic. But moving on, so when he and Tifa digged deeper into his consciousness and finally learned that all his past memories are true and only his memories of the tragedy is false (or half false because he was really there but the actual events just happened differently from what he believed plus his vague memories up to their escape to Midgar) - He realized that he just really didn’t make it as a SOLDIER but that doesn’t totally mean that he wasn’t a real person who has his own will after all. Despite being delusional and ashamed fool, he can still live out his dream as a hero to save the people dear to him - Therefore, he was able to break free from Sephiroth’s evil manipulation and, more than ever, he is determined to stop him. That’s what actually made Cloud’s whole character arc beautiful (which is almost comparable with FFIX Vivi). That’s why, for me, Cloud is somehow still being himself both in the OG and Remake. Meaning, the “Fake Cloud” we are saying here is the Cloud being himself (egocentric, rude, indifferent) but only assuming he was once a SOLDIER. That’s why he was portrayed cocky and pretending-to-know-his-ways when, at times, he was just as clueless (like Aerith pointed it out to him few times in the Remake and OG). You may say Zack influenced him to be a mercenary, but how exactly to be one, it’s still Cloud’s own way and experience as we see in the game (OG and Remake). If you still believe that Cloud possessed Zack’s memories, think of the following questions: 1) Why Cloud doesn’t recognize every person Zack met? The Turks? Zack’s parents in Gongaga? More importantly, Aerith? Cloud even forgot Aerith the 2nd time he met her in the church, right? 2) Why Cloud doesn’t feel any “deja vu” when he visits places where Zack had been? Why is he not familiar with Aerith’s Church and him falling inside it? It happened the same way to Zack, true? 3) Why can he still remember correctly his childhood in Nibelheim, along with his memories of his mother? 4) Outside the Nibelheim tragedy up to their escape to Midgar, are there any other memories of Cloud distorted? 5) Did we see any trace of Zack’s memories inside Cloud’s consciousness during the lifestream sequence? Did we filtered out a memory about Zack? 6) Memories should change our behavior and personality (so many movies and literature out there also show how it’s supposed to work) but how come Cloud and Zack remained polar opposites? Zack being people person and warm while Cloud remained aloof and cold? If you can rationalize around these questions well enough to support your claim, then I might believe you. Otherwise, I’m still convinced that Cloud doesn’t have his friend’s memories like literally in his head as how most of you assumed it. On the side note, this is the reason why “Tifa not telling Cloud the truth about Zack and the Nibelheim incident as early as she can”, for me, has a significant bearing to his identity crisis in OG. The real problems might have been identified (if not solved) earlier if only she reacted to Cloud immediately when he told his own version story of the Nibelheim tragedy to them. This dynamics can be further explored and explained in the Remake. It would be interesting to know deeper why Tifa didn’t tell Cloud the truth. We will see how the Remake will handle that.

Yep, Clouds’s mind shattered after taking in everything that happened. He was already mentally weakened from Mako poisoning, so his brain merged Zack’s stories with parts of his own memories to cope. This is why he doesn’t act like Zack or actually know anyone Zack did. It’s just a persona Cloud made, but that has nothing to do with his feelings regardless of his attitude.

While he didn't posses Zack memories (how could he?), it was definitely more than just claiming accomplishments. He basically became Zack to the best of his knowledge of him and carried on in his place.

She is, but she's also revealing to Cloud that she's figured him out. Aeris is trying to tell him that she knows his outward demeanor isn't his true disposition and that she wants him to show her the real Cloud--who at this point is buried underneath the guilt for Zack's death and his other failings. It's the most beautifully sad aspect of this revelation that Aeris is the only character out of their ragtag group of wayward freedom fighters who knew, and quite possibly loved, them both.

Like they were in love in Crisis Core, Zack even would try to skip his duty to go see her, even helped her build the cart she uses at the beginning of FF7. She loved Zack dude, she even misses him even. And in FF7 Advent Children she walks away with Zack while appearing before Cloud when they say their goodbyes. She may have temporarily loved Cloud, but she always loved Zack.

To the people saying Aerith liked Cloud because of Zack... Do you really think the creators designed and killed off this beautiful character for her role just to be the girl who thought she liked the main character? Also I find it really annoying when people say Cloud thought he liked Aerith because he thought he was Zack... I don't see Zack's personality at all in Cloud's behaviour, it's ridiculous to say that...Cloud is who he is and we can see he pretty much has the same personality in AC, and pretty nicer after all these events tbh. He's a tragic character who first loses his best friend, reacts to this trauma with memory suppression (with some help from mako energy exposure) and then also loses his new love interest (who definitely doesn't think he's Zack) and then he's depressed and stuck in the past. Did he love both girls? Yes. At different times though! Did he end up with any of them? No, because his story is about loss, great pain and then moving on. That's it. Get your facts straight, don't complicate the story to meet your needs ffs

Basically in the FF7 Novel page 159 from Aerith during the Gongaga mission where Aerith admits that while at first she thought Cloud was similar to Zack, she quickly recognized that Cloud was "Cloud" and that she "undoubtedly loves Cloud much more" than she ever loved Zack, which was also backed up in Maiden of the Planet where Aerith also admits that she "loved Cloud much more than her first love." Fan are in denial.

the date between aerith and cloud is supposed to be THE date for the gold saucer. having this date with any other character is solely based on the players preferences. aerith's 'infatuation' meter starts higher than tifa's, yuffie's, and barrets. can we say canon?

Just like Aerith's resolution in the first part of FF7 Remake is the canon resolution because Aerith & Cloud reveal more about themselves in it than Cloud does in the other 2 resolutions, Cloud that he is worried about Aerith, has already fallen in love with her & refuses to pretend that he's not in love with her, and Aerith that she knows she might die but can't help but feel happy that Cloud will come for her romantically. Cloud completely takes off the fake overly confident & antisocial exterior that had already started to melt in the time he spent with Aerith for her and Aerith stops trying to cover up her sadness with forced carefree-ness. If the player give more affection points to Tifa, Cloud eventually agrees to comfort crying Tifa by hugging her but accidentally hugs her too hard & hurts her so that the best thing for both Tifa & Cloud is for Cloud to release Tifa & the camera changes to an angled up, close view of Aerith's yellow flowers as if to say AERITH was supposed to be there with Cloud. The player literally harms Aerith, Cloud, Tifa, and the story by not giving the majority of affection points to Aerith.

Even here there is a hidden meaning , Tifa forces Cloud to hug , and in the scene with aerith, he tries to grab her hand and if he did, he would hug or kiss her at will . It pisses me off that people ship one-sided love, where did it come from?Why are there fewer people for real and more romantic love

@@user-df8lp9zq8s Exactly! I feel like a broken record relaying all of the times Cloud proves he's in love with Aerith and the times Aerith proves she has come to love Cloud more than Zack. How many times do Cloud and Aerith have to prove their love for each other before people stop rooting for a one-sided love with Tifa and Cloud and an old crush that didn't bring out her spunky, chatterbox nature with Zack and Aerith? It makes me wonder how many people actually care about Cloud and Aerith. Cloud already has to go through so much, especially PTSD and physical insecurities, and social struggles they're trying to force him to end up with Tifa when he clearly wants Aerith, like when he grabbed for her Aerith's hand like you mentioned (and right before she caressed his cheek and at the end of the scene wants him to come for her romantically as much as he does) and the fact that he only gave Tifa the flower after Tifa said she'd never had one before and yet every time Cloud sees the flower, hears of it, and when he sees a similar one's on Leslie's girlfriend's necklace, it reminds him of Aerith and gets so upset because misses her so much that he can't even explain the flower's meaning to Leslie. In Remake, Cloud is determined to come for Aerith romantically and keep her from dying so she that she will continue to shine bright at him be here, in his embrace. Aerith and Cloud deserve that, especially after all they've been through🌸🎀☁️💖

The fact that Cloud is in love with Aerith , and not with Tifa , is shown in the remake in a simple direct way . Even the flower he had given to Tifa against his will . He lied about it to Aerith immediately. Although he really doesn't like to lie . And this was in the first hours of their normal acquaintance . He knew then that he was falling in love . Even then, he tried to show himself cool in dialogues with her and during fights . On the tube, he says that he will not tell her stories for free , clearly hinting at additional dates with her . But this will only be noticed by the attentive. And then there were a million moments in the game where you can tell that he fell in love with her very much . And this is 3 days of dating . There are also a lot of signs that Aerith is in love with Cloud . If they are not enough, you can simply refer to the official books, where it is said that she loves Cloud much more than Zack . I don't know what else people need to understand this .Let them already kiss in the second part . And they will say directly that they love each other . Cloti will again say that it is not Cloud, Zack kisses her, and Aerith kisses Cloud, because she sees Zack in him . Oh, these people..

everyone always talks about how “aerith is zack’s girl!!” but i’m certain that in a world where cloud and aerith were allowed to be together, there’s nobody he would trust more than cloud to look after aerith. zack cares very sincerely for both characters, so i really do think he would be happy for them in the end.

Tag line for the original game was: The story of a love that can never be, and a hate that always was. Pretty clear what this is about.

Going on the date with Aerith seems appropriate, spend quality time with her one last time before her final mission in the temple of ancients, and then her death :( besides she promised Cloud a date at the beginning of the game

I hope in the remake Cloud not just kissing Aerith hand but a kissed of true love can break the spell of Evil Dragon King. Haha

This is going to look amazing when the second part of the remake comes out. Chances are I'ma choose Aerith.

@@GOHST13ly Ya but there were already different scenarios which would either depict Aerith, Tifa, or Barret based on your actions in the game by that time. Pretty sure it's the Chapter 14 sequence the night before the team heads out to save Aerith. It's not too far fetched that this scene will likely have a similar option.

Even after the years., I still love Aerith. Always has been Cloud and Aerith.

I too love Aerith, very much, to the point of considering making a tatoo or her! But the most beautiful love story is with Zack and Aerith... Not in the OG though... In OG Zack was almost negligible.His story in the OG was not developed... Since OG focus is Cloud and his "gang"... But what they did in Crisis Core changed the way I saw the entire FFVII story.

@@soniccinos Well, first of all, Aerith fell in love with Cloud more than with Zack. This has been said in several materials several times . And even in this scene you can see that she wants Cloud, not Zack. Secondly, Zerith is a copy of Clerith mometnov. The developers admitted that they didn 't have time to create a relationship between them, so they copied falling into a church and a date in the park . Thirdly, Aerith in CC is a terrible character, boring, weak, this is not a real Aerith. Therefore, Zerith is one of the worst relationships in the FF series. If you've officially admitted that you like each other, it doesn't mean that it's nicer than a relationship like Clerith's. Especially when Aaerith says that she loved Cloud more than Zack

@@user-df8lp9zq8s you do realize that they are bringing back Crisis Core, and Zack will be a center piece even In the Remake part 2? So the relationship between Aerith and Zack will hopefully be further developed. I mean, even in the Rebirth Aerith says she's being searching for "him" for sooo long... I really hope Zack and Aerith have a better closure than they did in advent children.

Aeris knew about Cloud's dissociative personality disorder, which was why she said she wanted to "meet..... (him)". Maybe because she's a Cetra she had some sort of extra sensory abilities, but it's pretty obvious looking back that she's at least somewhat aware of Cloud's 'condition'.

@@anagarza8326 The one manipulative, as Tifa, who was there and knew the whole story, Aerith did not know what happened to Zack, not even that he died. She just knew that Cloud wasn't his true self, that's all.

She is hyper aware, saw right through him for what he is. Yet we don't find out until probably 10 more hours of playing. She's like a walking spoiler.

Man... I'm so glad. I think a few minutes ago Aeris always liked Zack and She liked Cloud because the both are very alike. It's... She likes Cloud because Zack. But no! She really likes Cloud! She noticed the difference. And, I can talk more thing about it, but... It's already good. Hahahaha

I'm not into this love triangle bs arguments, but back then when I played ff vii, tifa was love interest in the past, and aerith is the present. Seeing this objectively, from those dialogues we can see between cloud and aerith there is a special relationship. From what I know and i'm firm of it is that square intended to kill off the best friend, barrett. But killing the love interest will make it more painful and realistic. Therefore, squaresoft avoided a cliché storyline where the hero dies for his lover but instead created a storyline where the hero loses his beloved one to make it more like the real world where death is so sudden and you just can't do anything to resurrect your beloved ones. Then this newer generation favours zack than cloud, however is not relevant because its like past relationship just like cloud and tifa's relationship in the past, but not present, as she said in the gondola everything's changed now. You just need to be objective then you can see clearly. But when your views becomes subjective, i guarantee you until the end of the world these arguments will always exist. If aerith and cloud isnt special or only friends, ff vii wouldnt be so legendary that aeriths' s death haunts us till this day that the pain feels real.

It's because of the scene where she dies where I think that THIS part should be Canonical. A Final good memory before her time hits her in the back. Besides, we all know that whatever you do Cloud and Tifa have a real good moment later with nighttime hugs and things....so when you are on a Final Fantasy VII Quest....you're a player.

Same. This game is still my favorite game. Never had a game that made me so emotional and get attached to game characters like FF7. FF7 is still my no.1 game even after all these years.

Someone said from Square Enix that they had to choose Barret or Aerith to die in the series. They thought Barret would sacrifice his life as the "last man standing in battle". Well, if they did choose Barret to die, Aerith would have stayed alive and she and Cloud would have been together, yeah, Tifa would be devastated. But then, they choosed Aerith to die because only she can guide the lifestream to defend earth from meteor...

For 24 real life years, across dozens of cameos and spinoffs, Cloud has had one purpose...to find a way to be with Aerith again. Now we have a Remake series that isn't afraid to break away from the plot of the original game. Games that are supposed to be the final chapter of FF7. And people think that Square are going to kill her again?

The ending credits song is very interesting and I wonder if it's a sign of things to come or just poetic liberty. It does imply that this time around Cloud is not going to let Aerith die. As if all this "let's defy destiny" theme associated with Cloud's character development so far wasn't enough. "Was it all a dream? Will I never know? Foolish and blind to everything Had I realized, had I thought it through Would you be here in my embrace? Shine bright once more Guide me to you Smile bright Once more This time I will never let you go" BTW, they nailed it with this song! As with the entire OST.

I’m fine with it. Especially if they reveal that’s not actually how the story goes and that it’s just a figment of Cloud’s depression. It would complete the whole series of ff7 games by conclusively what he wanted.

At Advent Children the ending at the last credit is that Cloud is riding a motor and meet Aeris... Actually at Advent Children scene when confronting Sephiroth. Sephiroth : Where did you get this power? Cloud : I‘m not gonna tell you! (Aerith first came into his mind). At ff7 when all of the party in Cosmos Canon. Aerith : I‘m all alone now. Cloud : No your not because I‘m.. I mean we are all here for you. ( It's so obvious he likes her but he doesn't show it because everyone is there)

If you look at the script for the first version of the film, it states that he's driving AWAY from / PAST her, and that she looks a little sad, but smiles after a moment - meaning he's moving on with living and that it's a bittersweet positive ending to that story. But I guess crazy Cloud x Aerith shippers misinterpreted the meaning so bad that they just wound up removing it from the complete version and ended it instead with Cloud taking the day off to meet with Tifa, and him leaving Zack's sword in Aerith's church. So... nah. Advent Children really isn't pro Cloud x Aerith at all.

Like Cloud is confused by memories, and there are things tifa never knew about despite being there 5 years before, yet Aeris realises first that Cloud is buried underneath everything and tries to tell him this. Only he either doesn't understand what she means or is too jumbled up in the head to know the difference between what is him and what isn't here. Even Tifa only has an illusion of who cloud is in her own mind and view of him. He's a stranger even to her until disc two. But Aeris knew here

First in crisis core, Aeries knew that Zack was dead. When she met cloud again, from the conversation above she did said Cloud is similar to Zack, yet... two different person, she later responded cloud saying that: "You're different". And again, when Aeries said that she was searching for Cloud, and want to meet the REAL Cloud instead of Cloud impersonating the Zack personality and memory. And she want to meet the real Cloud. But Cloud responded saying he is right here in front of Aeries. But later hear heart whisper that, she is very well aware that psychically Cloud is here, but the Cloud personality is not. So in the end, the person she want to meet is Cloud not Zack.

I think Aerith did not knew Zack died in Crisis Core, when she died and traveled the lifestream in the novel of "Maiden who travels the planet" she saw Zack and said "Zack! Does that mean you're dead too?"

Nicholas Neoh I think Aerith wanted to meet the real Cloud, it's clear in the conversation! And I really believe that Aerith knew of Zack's death due to the fact that she is a Cetra and the planet can speak to her (she knew about Elmyra's husband's death right away why not with Zack?, and why at the end of CC did she look up in shock at the sky while Zack was dying?) I think she is just denying it to herself to avoid the pain of accepting it which is pretty realistic. In ''The maiden who travels through time'' she supposedly did not know about his death, but that story is not canon and has not been acknowledged by Square Enix since Crisis Core came out, which shows a different side of what Aerith knew. You are right in both things, Aerith wants to meet the real Cloud, and it is most likely that she knew about Zack's death.

MissKuchiki indeed, Crisis Core retconned "Maiden who travels the planet" and CC is canon. Aerith felt Zack's death; it was shown at the end of the game. Here she admits she fell for Cloud's Zack persona. I don't think she ever got to meet the real Cloud.

Only thing missing is a kiss. I really believe if Cloud was his REAL self and not the delusional Zack impersonator here, he would have kissed Aerith in a heartbeat.

***** haha maybe it's cetra thing but who cares! all i know is that aerith was interested in cloud, and not just the zack-deluded cloud but the real cloud. aerith is sharper than you think she knew from the beginning that cloud was not himself the moment they first met.

I'm not going to lie, the scene at 5:35 used to make me cry. A friend spoiled the "Aeris dies" thing before I even started playing the game, so that gave this scene so much more of an emotional punch for me. That music, man... I was a sappy dude way back when.

I agree with this sentiment that Aeris knew he was hiding his real self deep down and that she wanted to see him as just him. Especially when Cloud and Tifa both here are somewhat confused as to what is true and what is not really a part of him. I always felt Aeris was trying to give him a nudge in the right direction even here by saying she wants to meet him.

That's the true and only love story in Finaly Fantasy 7 and it's beautiful like that. Not Tifa, Not Zack. That's pure poetry.

i've played this game when i was 7 years old, and this game taught me about heartbreaks before anybody else did

There was always something so genuine and pure with the blocky characters; and how can you not love how adorable it looked seeing Aerith pushing Cloud out of the room for the date?

Funny how twenty-three years after playing this game, I could finally relate to what Aeris says to Cloud from 6:54 to 7:17. Developing feelings for someone who reminds you of an old flame from their looks down to the way they carry themselves but understanding they're two completely different people and that you may care for the person in front you more. Gotta love the spoken AND unspoken connection between these two.

I went thru all the options, even Barrett, but Aeris was always the one I wanted. I replayed this possibly a billion times trying to find a way to save her, like legit I thought they would put something in this part like a secret option or sequence... but in the end, losing her made this part so much more important...

Exactly. I think it's through that aspect of the story that Aeris' death retains its poignancy even almost twenty years later. Even if you didn't quite understand what the meaning of this scene was the first few times you played, there was still something about it that ached and made the events to come all the more discouraging and heartbreaking.

Came to this video after this line in the rebirth trailer. Doesn’t seem to indicate any changing of the plot, more that Aeris also suspects that cloud isn’t so sure who he even is.

Aerith is such an adorable woman full of energy with a loving heart. I love her so much that I never get anyone else on date with Cloud lol. Call me extreme because I am, I never put Tifa on my team after Cloud met Aerith, even after she’s dead (only on parts Tifa is obligatory or when I tried for a perfect game lol). Aerith is forever one of the best, if not the best female character in FF, or maybe in RPG world.

in rebirth, the delivery of her lines about wanting to meet the real Cloud was a massive gut punch

@ 7:30 in rebirth trailer she says "I'm trying so hard to find you". I believe it's this gondola scene in rebirth. The rebirth trailer made it seem like she's talking to Zack to sidetrack us, but the dialogue matches here at the gondola.

i remember playing the game so many times responding with different answers to the characters so i could get to date everyone. i first went with aerith and then continued with tifa, yuffie, barret, vincent (all he said was "......." how dare he!). but eventually i ended the date with aerith (again) so i could rewatch it one more time before continuing the game play. even 20 years later, it will always be aerith :')

6:53 Aerith sees they both might look the same in appearance, but she is deeply aware they both personality is huge different. Aerith can see the difference in Cloud but cannot assess his true character deeply. That is why she tells him that she is searching for him(tried to assess him deeply but still cannot figure it out) and wants to meet him(to know him completely). 36 years old here, the first FF I have ever played was FF remake installed on my 20years old little brother PS4. That is the best romantic story in the game I have ever seen(Cloud+Aerith). It was like watching a drama. They are a perfect match; Warm cheerful Aerith who can melt down cold Cloud. I'm pretty sure if it was a serial drama/telenovela 90% of the viewers would fall into Cloud+Aerith. Probably the dev could add some shit "Ancient" stuff to Cloud genome in the "Rebirth" so it can match with Aerith stuff. 😆 I have also played the CC remake recently and it is the worst in terms of all. 😂 No offense.

The most beautiful part ( 08:00 ) is when the song changes from a sad and melancholic vibe to something more happy and inspiring, making a loop and starting it all over again! it reflects the power of Aerith's spirit which also have good vibes even though everything is falling appart around them! i love Nobuo Uematsu! his songs for this game are so perfect!

It brings back so many memories of childhood, when life felt so good and with no idea of the future, but already some sadness with the "touching game/story" as well as real life. But it prove with "alfred" too that life never end like this (Aerith) in both game and real life...

I can't imagine how i can hook with the story even they just show it with that grafic,no voice, just dialog text. As far as i remember this is the best story in final fantasy.

Somebody should make a theme park EXACTLY like this... Would be a Heaven on Earth...

Why does everyone talk to the Wizard? Talk to the knight and talk about the princess' measurements. And then when asked about who my enemy is, I pick the knight "Well I don't know, that's knight's looking pretty sketchy." And then Tifa slapped me in the face, true story.
