Each Final Fantasy has it's unique story (except for some few sequels like X-2) so you can choose to play any game no problem, in any order.

It's going to be rated M. The team working on ff16 has an amazing track record for consistent storytelling and gameplay content. All of their stories in ff14 are great, now they have the liberties to push their stories further with an M rating.
