Clive is such a well written character and a genuine good guy. He is up there with cloud for my favorites (even though clive is much more relatable as a human beeing)

Don't understand why you call this a secret ending... because it's not. You don't need to do anything to achieve that except for wait for the credits a role which is something that video games and movies have been doing for well over the past five years now. It is a common trope to wait until after the credits have completely done rolling before you turn off the game or end watching a movie

The most hauntingly beautiful ending I’ve seen in an FF game. While other FF titles had grand spectacles and cheerful/epic music, right here we see just a intimate solemn conclusion unfold in the Hideaway with a birth and Clive’s story ending on a beach. Incredibly beautiful

The ending was left open that hurt the game bad but it was good

Dion went out like a baller. Maybe my favorite scene in the game.

The most important side quests are "Priceless" along with "A Tail to Tell" Both played will explain the meaning of the dawn seen end game and the book, written by cid rosfield. "A Tail to Tell" "when the day comes, I'l certainly have a lot to write about" is what clive replied to Haprocrates after his encouragement to pick up a pen. Harpocrates is all-knowing as the game claims, but opting choosing to delve into the intimacy side of pheonix and ifrit(older brother), chances it's more likely Clive. There's a point in the game where Joshua clearly stated that his eikon's power could never bring someone back to life. Clive who loves his brother more than cid, should probably have higher chances that he would honor his brother's legacy. "Priceless" In Priceless, Japanese language; On that special day when they were young, Jill recalled witnessing the flowers reaching out for the sun after the storm; similarly, Clive reached out to her and calmed her down from the "storm" the storm being that she was being ignored as a person when she overheard her marriage potential. She gains the conviction that Clive will always be there for her, no matter what (a belief that is confirmed several times in the game, with Clive first coming back to her after many years apart and then saving her in the ship). She said that's a quality she appreciates and likes about him before she confessed to him and declared him as her treasure. Therefore, end-game seeing the sun rising calmed her down and stopped her from crying any further. But, endings are arbitrary nowadays, it's a gamer's pick. cheers!

Idk. The Phoenix can only mend flesh, not the soul or bring someone back to life. I don’t think Joshua lived unfortunately. I think Clive lived but wrote the book under his brothers name in his honor. Or maybe Joshua already wrote it and Clive, Jill or even Jote decided to have it published. I really hope a DLC comes out that possibly let’s us know what happened.

Joshua died, Clive wrote that book and used his brother’s name to honor him. It’s hinted if you play the secondary quest with apocrates or whatever the old librarian guy name is 😂

GOTY will be packed with contenders this year but FF16 is strong. It’s been a long time since a numbered title made me feel so much. FFX being the last one. I’ve already started my new game + on Final Fantasy mode!

That was a great story. Really cry after Clive's last words - he sacrificed himself to save world, lover and future all humanity. But he understood that the world would be healed without magic, and people would adapt to a new life. Jill will be hurt but she will be able to cope and live on - oh, I want to believe that in the post-credit scene it is she who cooks lunch and jokingly reproaches her elder son for an excessive believe in magic. To everyone who took part in the creation of this game - programmers, screenwriters, voice actors, the composer and his musicians - many thanks to everyone. Such masterpiece are rare these days, but they did.

Are you certain Clive died? Consider the following: - Only part of Clives hand turned to stone, Cid was still living with his hand turned to stone. - Clive took on Cids name as a way of honoring him, and the book at the end was written by "Joshua Rosfield" but Joshua clearly died. Could Clive have done the same for him? - Harpocrates gives a sidequest towards the end, and talks to Clive about how he should be a story writer once all is said and done (tying into the last point) - There are two DLCs coming.....

You know i like this version of ultima he graciously accepted his defeat unlike most villains in the ff series.

And thus ends Bayonetta May Asura: Revegeance Wrathful Fantasy XVI, where every boss up to the final one is practically a final boss in any other game. And its my second favorite overall FF in the series now (Just behind FF7 and the best parts of the compilation including FF7 Remake)

Also think for anyone trying to claim this isn't a Final Fantasy the grand scheme of what is narratively going on here would like a word with you. How many times have we, in JPRGs and in Final Fantasy titles fought literal GOD? Countless times, so stfu with your bullshit. It's also always borrowed lore and mythology from different places and times. FF8 being one that immediately comes to mind. It has never been set in stone as one specific way, this is every bit true to Final Fantasy as a franchise as any of the previous installments.

FF7 is the most memorable. FFXI is still a favorite for me and XIV.

Yeah, Clive survive even without doing any sidequest you can think about it.. he destroy magic and everything, the curse stop in his hand only, we already saw Cid surviving with the curse in his hand acting normal

One question is what if is possible the same enemy from ff7 and this its tell going across the cosmos

Eh I dunno.... I would say that he's the best Final Fantasy protagonist we have used so far. But as far as the best Final Fantasy character I would have to give that to Cid from this game by far

so, the ending is left open to interpretation, but from what i can gather, joshua may have been brought back which is why we have that book at the end written by him, as for Dion, i think he's dead very good noble sacrifice, and clive, clive may be alive minus an arm or he may be dead, thats up for you to decide.

if you read the translation of the lyrics of the theme song (moongazing), it pretty much confirms that clive is still alive and came back to jill. i think joshua died (he said the phoenix can only heal wounds, meaning not even the phoenix can bring the dead back) but idk about dion

The book takes place through clive who writes Joshua as the author due to respect and he also doesn't like to take credit for things. Clive has also gone by many names as well. Also when the protected becomes the protector is a very symbolic thing.

Makes us wonder is it possible he’s still alive? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

"But where one journey ends..." Oh man is this a DLC hint? A sequel game? Just artistic fluff?

I agree. It was a great ending. I haven't had an emotional response to a video game in many many years - and probably not as strong of a reaction as I did to FF16 ever.

The game ends on a beach just like KH2. Game of the year for sure!!

Well, now that I've watched this... I now know for sure that I won't be playing this game at all. => I did not like this conclusion one bit.

Wow people are actually praising this? It's a piss poor ending with so much stuff left undone. What happened to Twinside? What happened to the blight? Can bearers still do magic after destroying all of the mothercrystals? Are they still affected by the Bearer's curse? It didn't even confirm if destroying all of the mothercrystals would stop the blight. Yeah not the best ending at ALL. Better than FF15 mind you, but still not that great. FF13 had a better ending than this.

Magic no longer exists, and from what it looks like, the world is reviving. The final scene after the credits shows this as this is years and years ahead. Given that Magic and Eikons are a fairytale. As for the Curse, it's implied that the curse only spread when drawing Aether to cast magicks. This was mentioned during a side quest. One of the real questions is, where is Leviathan? Yoshi-P mentioned that she was active in the game, but albeit subtle.

Clearly, you didn’t do the side quests. Nor did you pay attention to the story at all. When Clive is on the beach, his hand turns to stone after failing to cast a spell. This proves two things…the curse remains while magic is gone. The post credit clip shows a healing world and fairy tale books about magic and Eikons. This again illustrates the lack of magic and the ebbing of the blight. Perhaps you wouldn’t judge the game so harshly had you actually completed it.

@@mbuzard46 I completed it. Played ALL the sidequest, took on ALL the hunts. And still the ending is lacking. So don't come and tell me I didnt because you don't know shit. The ending is LAZY and abrupt. Chaos was sweeping the land and there was no conclusion to that. It just time skipped, AGAIN, to that scene with the family letting us know what happened. That is just SUCH a bad way to end it.

Perhaps the open ended way the story concluded was intentionally done to leave room for DLC content. Perhaps they wanted to meet the release timeline and decided to allot more time for storytelling via DLC. It takes an inordinate amount of time to construct a game of this caliber, I just feel that it’s a little unfair to judge so harshly. If you can’t see that this is a great game with a great story, maybe you should play something more your speed like Call of Duty or PubG.

If you can't tell, I like games that require me to use my brain to play. This game does not require that. Listen, I liked the story, I really do. The ending is just lacking bad. And it's obvious that they made it open ended like that to milk the shit out of it. And if you're seriously defending this game for being unfinished intentionally for DLC purposes then you're part of the bigger problem in the gaming industry. They're gonna milk this game to cater to YOU.
