FINAL CHECKS before starting my V6 EH Holden panelvan for the FIRST TIME!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video, I go over the last jobs before attempting to fire up the EH for the first time including finishing the fuel lines, modifying the fuel tank and conducting the final checks. Whilst it should start straight away, you just never know what is going to happen when you do an engine conversion!
This is the ninth episode in the build series that follows my journey as a backyard restorer, undertaking a 1964 EH Holden panel van restoration that holds sentimental value to me as it was originally started by my panelbeater Dad, who has passed.
Throughout this build series, I share what I am learning along the way and the mistakes I make in order to show you, that anyone can have a crack at this type of restoration (if they have the patience!). I am not a panelbeater or mechanic by any stretch, but love spending the time in the shed restoring these old classics.

Years ago i had an XE Fairmont with a 302 and T - bar auto fitted. I pulled those out an fitted a fully worked 2 litre four out of a Cortina coupled to a five speed manual. It was a real goer with a loud, buzzy sound. It did the standing quarter in about 19 seconds flat. When i tried selling her a few years later, nobody wanted it, so i left her at the wreckers. Since then, I've had a '79 Mazda 323 1-4 with auto(red with brown interior, very reliable), an '85 Mitsubishi Colt sedan(surprisingly strong performance), a '90 TP Magna sedan 2-6 carby, (comfortable and well equipped but crappy reliability) and now a 2012 Corolla sedan I've owned since near new(never had a drama with her). After my mortgage is cleared, I'm looking at maybe a Hilux 2WD singlecab tabletop (tub backs are useless) with a manual fitted, possibly my final ever vehicle. But i wouldn't knock back another XD or XE Ford V8......this time, I'd leave the V8 in her. Anyhow, good luck with your projects. 👍

Nice one mate. It’s all about having projects isn’t it! Believe it or not I plan on doing an XD/XE with a Coyote in it in the next year or so. Awesome shape.

They are 75x25x2.5mm RHS and I just cut out the ends to fit over the spring hanger. Then the plates over the crossmember is some folded 3mm plate. I didn’t do up a video on that though. Only mention it in this one 😞

Hi Skillo, love the build and following along. Just want to make mention of your fuel lines running under the chassis brace you installed. They are very low on the van and may be in danger of damage. If you can check with your engineer if you already haven’t to see if he is happy with how they run. I’m doing an EH wagon and had to cover some of my lines to keep him happy. Easy to fix now rather than later after painting. Anyway keep up the great build.

Thanks mate! Yeah have a few mention to me about the lines so will reach out to the engineer. I was 50/50 on running the battery cables there so I can alter it all pretty easily. Watch this space!!

You might be able to run your fuel lines on the inside edge of the RHS if you use single fuel line clips , this way you should be able to get your two lines within the 25 mil,
