I love the moment when O.B. comes back from disposing the guns. “I am never going back out in that shit ever again!!!!!!”😂😂😂

People hated on that film when it came out calling it slow and boring. To me, it's one of if not his best creation. Everything is good and the slow pace is what this movie is all about, setup and suspense. It's not an action movie, it's a murder mystery.

Its slow but it definitely gives u a feeling of wanting to know whats next.

5:15 when this movie came out, a lot of people were criticizing the treatment of Daisy Domergue and how everyone was physically and verbally cruel to her. A critic defended it by saying "They don't treat her like a fairy princess because she's a woman. They treat her like a killer because she's a killer." You summed it up perfectly as well.

@@MrParkerman6 what? She's literally being arrested and is sent to be hanged the first time we see her! It's pretty clear that at least the hangman knows her crimes. And he's the one who's the most cruel to her. You are right that that wasn't what Tarantino said. That was a film critic who was defending it. I just got it mixed up who said it.

She was being sentenced to hang from the beginning because she is part of a gang who killed people, Daisy is a horrible person but I don’t think that justifies violence with more violence. That’s not justice it’s just brings more hate and pain and doesn’t solve anything. I do think if we were to compare the immoral actions, daisy’s treatment is a response to her being a horrible killer, unlike that gang killing the innocent people at the haberdashery simply for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. I also think the movie isn’t misogynistic because it arguably doesn’t frame daisy’s treatment as justifiable. The movie is called the hateful eight. These people are bad people, with varying degrees. Bad people do bad things, and the movie isn’t trying to say that they’re above that. It brings more conflict because we’re not sure who to root for.

By far my favorite Tarantino film. Almost feels like a stage play unfolding, and as a Montanan by upbringing, man oh man can I not get enough of those mountain landscapes.

Was justified cancelled or does it have a proper ending?

I saw The Hateful 8 in the 70mm "Roadshow" style, so it had the Overture and Intermission as well. God that was a movie experience i want to capture again.

This is my favorite Tarantino movie. The slow burn tension, all the little pay offs scalating into character development, and boy oh boy, the message that the Lincoln letter implies, just like you beautifully put, its so powerful. Its amazes me how can you bring that much in that one little set.

Hard to pick a best moment but the spitting on the letter and getting knocked the fuck out part makes me laugh everytime.

I love the vibe of this film. And I love trying to spot out whether a given scene was shot at the actual cold-as-heck location, or on the duplicate replica set. The last bit of the movie was certainly on a stage, at the very least.

If I remember correctly, I believe I read that all of the indoor scenes were filmed on a refrigerated set that was kept at like 35 degrees or something.

Walton Goggins is one of those actors where if I see he's involved in a movie, I'm going to watch it. He has a few TV shows that he is just phenomenal in. Both Justified and Vice Principals show completely different characters and he nails them both.

The old general is played by Bruce Dern. One of his earliest film performances is still one of his best, in the 1972 Science Fiction beauty called "Silent Running". Its director died just last week, Douglas Trumbull. He was the special effects genius behind "2001: A Space Odyssey", among other films, and he also invented and developed the IMAX format of movie equipment and film. "Silent Running" is what turned me into an environmentalist, when I was ten years old. It also set the pattern of cute, almost-human droids that was copied five years later with R2D2 in "Star Wars". Laura Dern, Bruce's daughter, is a terrific actress in her own right. Her most famous role was in the original "Jurassic Park" -- she was the female lead.

I also darkly love that every single character that you see on screen, also dies on screen. There are no survivors. Such a grim and well told tale.

Walton Goggins owns every role with just absolute perfection! On top of that he's also just a really cool dude who's supportive of marginalised people in the industry, etc. Still the best character in Sons of Anarchy.

honestly its a travesty that SLJ didnt win an OSCAR for his performance here, or any rewards really, he was magnificent in this film in the company of A-list actors, he was truly the main man of this, standing out, if anybody ever doubted Samuel's acting capabilities they definitely cant after this one :) gotta say this has to be one of Tarantino's best, its incredible what he managed to do with this movie, its pretty long but you dont really feel it, the whole movie is mainly characters talking but its never boring, brilliant work :) also special shoutout to Walter Goggins he has done an awesome job here, he is an actor who goes under the radar because he doesnt get the chance to shine that often, but here he shows off his class :)

Walton Goggins is an epic actor, his characteristic laconic delivery & elegant vocabulary is what raises his game. Watch justified to see him at his best.

I was lucky enough to see this and 70 mm as part of a limited engagement roadshow. It was incredible. I absolutely love Tarantino‘s movies, he can do no wrong in my eyes. I really do hope that he is not going to retire after one more.

Kurt Russel actually breaking that antique guitar from the 1800's, that was a legit reaction cause she knew that it was an antique. Lol

14:30 That’s a pretty accurate depiction of taking apart a firearm. A well-trained and experienced shooter could easily field strip it without looking.

One neat but crucial detail I didn’t pick up on until rewatch, Was the answer as to whether or not Mannix was lying about being the sheriff of Red Rock. After the poison coffee, Mannix has the suspects at gunpoint, and desperately wants to believe it’s Joe Gage, After wanting to kill him the entire movie. But once the shooting starts, Mannix stops himself from shooting Joe upon learning he is unarmed, Showing he was able to set aside personal feelings in the name of Justice and honor, Thus proving he was in fact the Sheriff of Red Rock.

James I love that Quentin reuses the same 10 actors in his films. Sprinkling in heavy hitters too. They are all amazing.

Jennifer Jason Leigh did such a great job in this film, she makes you believe that she deserves everything that she gets.

Nominated for 3 Oscars: Best Supporting Actress, Jennifer Jason Leigh Best Cinematography, Robert Richardson Best Original Score, Ennio Morricone. It won the latter. The film has some elements of John Carpenter's THE THING, as you soon learn one of these characters is not who he appears to be, until the very end.

Didn’t the score even use elements of The Thing’s score? One of a dozen+ reasons why this is my 2nd favorite Tarantino film!

Clicked instantly- this is my favorite Tarantino film, hands down. I studied it’s dialogue to improve my own writing. So excited to see what you think! 😀 I think my favorite part are probably Samuel L. Jackson’s verbal takedowns- pure gold. Also the fact that the door needs to be nailed shut just heightens the tension between the characters. Agreed-the cinematography is also outstanding.

Also one of the most subtle things I’ve noticed in the rewatch was the small pauses that Oswaldo does before he says his name. It hints that he has a slight trouble remembering his fake name since he probably had used so many as an outlaw that it’s hard to keep track of his current fake name. Also he is a bit old which adds to the difficulty.

Oh hell yeah. I've been waiting for this one. A total banger.

Crazy that we find out that the guitar Kurt Russell smashes was actually a 40k Martin acoustic. They forgot to tell Kurt that they would be switching them out between takes. He thought he was smashing the replica. Watch Jennifer's face when it happens. Priceless.

Seeing this in the cinema was so surreal, shot on 70mm and even with a break mid way through with the staff bringing in a snacks trolley like the og days, that was crazy!

Walton Goggins is a legit scene stealer in everything he does. Even bit parts like in Shanghai Noon, American Ultra, Ant-man and the Wasp, and shows like The Shield and Justified. He's so good. Also True Romance is my favorite of Tarantino even though he only wrote it

The scene where Kurt Russell breaks the guitar was actually unscripted they were supposed to swap it out. I guess the guitar was a collector's item so the look on her Donahue's face when he breaks it was genuine she was shocked!

That's Walton Goggins! Yeah he plays a pretty good a-hole racist but he's good in other roles too! I suggest the TV show "The Unicorn" which is a dram-edy. He plays a widowed father who's friends want to get him back into the dating scene again. It's a super fun show and he's great in it!

He was also great in Vice Principals, and had the odd cameo in Sons of Anarchy as a transgender prostitute. Goggins is on the same field as Bill Paxton in my opinion. Always a stand out performance, no matter how small the role.

By far my most rewatched from Tarantino. Its so simple yet nuanced. Not as digestable to the masses as some of his "bigger" action-oriented projects. I also like how its basically a Western retelling of "The Thing," and Russell even paraphrases some lines/scenes from his role in that. Man he just masterfully chews through the dialogue as does everyone

I was so in love with this movie when it came out and got lucky enough to see it in 70mm, but after a few watches I realized they're in a snow storm with lights shining on them that isn't coming from the candles lol

When I watched this the second time a while back I realized that Daisy was actually feeding the gang information when they first come inside and he says what did I say about talking. There's some subtle details like that it's nice

The movie was shot in Ultra Panavision 70. The 1.25:1 anamorphic lenses had not been used since 1966. The resulting image when shown was 2.76:1.

The opening song( a song composed for but not used in John Carpenter's The Thing)while seeing the desolate winter environment sets the whole movie. It has the same claustrophobic paranoia feel that The Thing had but set in a completely different set of circumstances. I love this movie.

I’d love to watch an actual stage play of this. Very underrated movie. Tarantino is a massive fan of westerns and it shows. Being a big fan of the genre myself, I love that 2 of his films are related to cowboys.

This feels like another acting class movie. You have several actors giving amazing performances. Honestly, the story itself isn't much. It's how the actors handle their roles that makes it for me.

I watched this with my mom too... Also, there is a tobacco store in Park City mall in Lancaster, PA where you can get 'pipes like that'.

From the Ennio Maricone score to the tense atmosphere, to Mr. Kurt Russell... who else see's this as a low key adaption of John Carpenter's The Thing?

Lol I remember seeing this in theater. My aunt took my cousin and I to see The Revenant, but she unknowingly preordered tickets for The Hateful Eight. And we didn't know until over a minute into the movie when the opening credits started popping up lmao because they both took place in the snow 😅

My favorite moment is when everything pops off. Tons of time building up to that moment. Edit: I see a lot of people mentioning Walt and little did I know how many films he’s in that I love.

If Tarantino did nothing but westerns the rest of his life, I'd be happy. He always gets the best performances from everyone in his films. Even if it's just one line. But man oh man, Sam Jackson brings his A++ game to every Tarantino film. I'd love to just sit in a room with Sam and Quentin and watch them have a conversation. Anytime they team up it's gold. Would really like to see Quentin utilize Kurt Russell even more. He's a great actor too and I love anything they do together.

In the late 1980s, early 1990s I lived in Amsterdam. I met a guy there in an Indie VHS movie rental, in the basement of a building. He was an American called Quentin. He was about 20 years old then, I was a little older. I just finished film school, and I had some gigs filming for Dutch national TV and even videos for MTV Europe. I really liked that guy. I was in that video shop for hours sometimes, discussing all kinds of old movies. He knew his stuff. He knew M from the 1930s and Citizen Kane. We both loved Rope by Hitchcock, and everything made by Kubrick. Whhat a nice guy! A few years later I saw him as an actor and a director in Pulp Fiction! And he is so influenced by our Dutch cukture, he even mentions that.... I gave been an actor as well, played in Mata Hari directed by David Carradine, who was Bill in Kill Bill. Small world. I love Tarrantino's Universe. He made some powerful movies. Hope he does still sometimes thinks back to those days....

i watched this like 6 years ago when i was 12 and this got me into film, made me want to be a filmmaker. I was amazed about everything about it and it still is my favorite film.

I got to see this in it's Limited Release in a theater that still had one of those older projectors. It was dope and we had an intermission and everything lol. They handed out Hateful Eight swag too

My favorite Tarantino, and I think the one I’ve rewatched most. Maybe alongside the Kill Bills for rewatching, but such a different vibe and this feels timeless. Walton Goggins has become one of my favorite actors, coming from some great television characters. On the show Justified, one character accused Goggins’ character of “using 7 words when one will do”. He’s just a great talker. It’s no wonder he fits in so well in the most dialogue heavy film of one of our most dialogue heavy writers and directors.

This and Inglorious Basterds are my favorite Tarantino movies. I don't get why people dislike or find The Hateful Eight boring.. It has great writing, suspense and it's fun! Plus it has awesome music by the great Ennio Morricone who scored the classic Spaghetti Westerns! Some of the music in The Hateful Eight is also taken from The Thing by John Carpenter which Morricone also composed music for.

One thing I noticed is that "English Pete" Hicox and Oswaldo Mobray had different British accents. He put on an upper class English accent as Mobray, while his real accent is a working-class Cockney accent. Nice touch.

Walton Goggins is so good, probably one of his most underrated roles is in Sons Of Anarchy as Venus. His acting skills are far and wide.

6:11 bit late but you can find all kinds of pipes like that from just looking up "Tobacco Pipes" and yes, you can smoke mull out of them just clean it often

In regards to the way the Film was shot, it uses It was something about the type of lens I think, them being the same type used in certain Films from the 50s and 60s like Ben-Hur. Hateful Eight was the first Film since then to use them.

This film has the most quotable and memorable dialogue lines!

In a post movie interview with QT and all the actors, Jennifer Jason Leigh said she asked Kurt Russell to stay chained to her after he was killed, not a prop dummy, cause she had gotten so used to him being close to her.

This movie got my heart pounding, amazing film….and yes this was film not digital. Great movie.

i recently rewatched "pulp fiction" and the craft of quentin tarantino really evolved alot since then. "pulp fiction" is nice, but this movie i like so much more. it is just so well rounded and has not one single dull moment.

The guitar Kurt destroyed was not a stunt guitar, but an actual very old antique loaned to production. That's why Jennifer's all like, "Uh do we cut or do we continue?"

I do wish that I had seen the original stage version -- except for Daisy (Amber Tamblyn played her in the stage version), all of the actors played their roles, then reprised them for the movie. It was a one-night only production. I'm sure fans of "The Thing" would have laughed *loud* when John Ruth said "One of them fellas is not what he says he is." I liked the foreshadowing early on, when John said he'd knock her front teeth out, and he did; he also complained that she was about to take his arm off, and... she did.

The Trilogy you need to watch is the Mariachi Trilogy. The first movie El Mariachi is in Spanish but subtitled. The other two movies star Antonio Banderas taking over the role. Desperado with Selma Hayak and Once Upon a Time in Mexico adding Johnny Depp. I highly recommend it

Written and directed by Quintin Taranto starring a group of various people who are stuck inside of a log cabin in the middle of a blizzard when someone is killing them all off

Barring special purpose or weird protoype stuff, generally the older the gun, the easier it is to disassemble, partially out of necessity because black powder was a much less efficient explosive and made guns require much more maintenance.

Now you should check out the performance of Demian Bichir, who plays the Mexican "Bob", in the FX series "The Bridge" (the 2013 US English production, not the Danish version). That is both Season one, & two. The other lead in "The Bridge" is Diane Kruger who also featured in "Inglourious Basterds" as Bridget Von Hammersmark. As for Walton Goggins, you have to go to another great FX series that made his name, "Justified". Both are worth of your time and critical eye.

Walton Goggins is a seriously underrated actor, he was my favorite at the start as well!

I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but Tarantino shot this on 70mm film, and in the theaters where it was possible, that's how it was shown. I went to a special screening at a local movie house where I live to see it, the only theater in the state that's able to project 70mm prints.

Man, I stopped watching your reaction 10 minutes in so that I could actually watch the whole film. Your reaction was great and Walton Goggins is one of my favorite actors. He was great in The Apostle with James Duvall

i dont know if its seen in this edit of your video but the scene of Kurt Russell's character playing the guitar and just smashing it to smithereens is hilarious if you know the context that it was unintentionally done and was a prop on loan from a museum and was actually a guitar made in the 1860s . Kurt thought he had the replica but ended up just destroying that antique guitar
