This may shock you and everyone else, but Nicholas Cage is actually academy reward actor. He won Oscar for best male acting In 1996 from the movie Leaving Las Vegas. So Pig is kind of movie where Nicholas Cage was inspired to do another Oscar level performance.
I love how Pig makes you think it's gonna go the route of a revenge/exploitation movie but then subverts the tropes at every turn just when you think it's gonna go there. Wonderful film
Pig is like John Wick by way of First Cow - a revenge movie about kindness - it really shouldn't work and yet it's one of the best films of the decade so far!
As someone who's dealt with self-esteem issues all my life and feeling as if I have to lie to fit in with people, Rob's speech to the chef in that restaurant hit way too close to home. Particularly the line, "You live your life for them and they don't even see you. You don't even see yourself." Stellar flick. Definitely one of Nic Cage's best. Even the man himself thinks so!

I think he does his best when he does more indie movies. Is it fun to see Cage go full Cage in blockbusters like face off? Sure but he's a great actor and i enjoy his more toned down performances.
This was filmed at my grandpa’s brother’s place! He was known locally as “trapper ben”, but I called him “uncle ben”: he gave nick cage an arrowhead he made (he was a huge native culture advocate and gave everyone he met handmade arrowheads). He passed away last year after a fire took his home :(

@@Crybaby-Media I just didn’t understand the purpose of that, or why someone would waste their time doing that. Thanks ❤
Masterpiece of a film. One of the biggest surprises for me was how rewatchable this was. So much visual storytelling that you don't pick up until a 2nd or even 3rd viewing. A very powerful and human movie anchored by the best performance of Cage's career, as well as excellent supporting work by Alex Wolff and Adam Arkin.
This was filmed in my city! I remember reading an article about it during filming and thinking “ugh, they never film good movies here” but went to see it anyway in the theater and was absolutely blown away. The script is so good, acting is excellent and cinematography is beautiful. I gotta say I cried so hard, the entire drive home too. Then I saw it a second time a few days later, and now I own it. It’s such an underrated film.
The first time I watched this movie, I had to pause it after he tells the chef in the restaurant, “Every day you’ll wake up and there will be less of you […] We don’t get a lot of things to really care about.” That monologue struck me to my core in ways few movies have.

That’s my favorite scene of the film! I remember thinking “damn, this movie is AWESOME” specifically during that moment.
This is in my top 5 films of the 2020s so far. Did not expect at all this to be understated, kind, cerebral and pretty introspective.

I remember when this movie came out, I was going through a really tough bout of post-lockdown depression and thought "Nic Cage and a pig? That'll be fun! A well needed distraction!" and I left the cinema with my guts in my throat and tears just pouring out of my eyes like something out of the Evil Dead. I just love this movie so much. It managed to translate every thought and feeling I was thinking and wanted to say at that time but couldn't find the words for. It is an absurdist modern masterpiece that is so specific and yet so universal. I'm so glad you've watched it, it's why you're one of the best at doing this, you don't shy away from the smaller productions and you always have interesting things to say about them. Keep up the good work, my friend!
Glad to see someone reacting to this, absolutely loved this movie. Amazing twist on the revenge themed films. Never thought just a scene of a man cooking could make me cry.
Oh my god this man just doesnt stop with the bangers!

I felt the same when he reacted to The Fountain! He does seem to pick the great lesser-known movies, doesn't he...
One of my favourite films of all time. An absolute masterpiece.
I love the way you talk about movies and the way they're filmed because you talk about movies the way I talk about food. I'm a chef here in New Orleans and I really appreciate that you can tell you really care.
Amazing movie. I might have to hit up Patreon to get the full reaction for this one. Such a great movie about loss.
The speech he gives to the chef is probably the scene that could've gotten him an Oscar nod. Perhaps the film was too small for it, but I remember so many people were pushing for a nomination.
this movie was one of the best surprises, loved it
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights, great and thoughtful stuff like only you can, as always, stay awesome and stay genuine... much love
Nicholas Cage is a true OG
This movie was an unexpected masterpiece.
A brilliant film, the scene with them at his former employees restaurant is 10/10
This and Adaptation with Meryl Streep are my favorite Nick Cage films. He plays twins and does and amazing job with both characters. His new one with P. pascal is worth mentioning in the conversation.
Its really dumb that pigs arent respected in the pet community at the same level as cat and dogs because pigs are way smarter than them. They should be at least at the same level. Imo every animal that has a sense of selfhood like pigs should be at higher level in sense of respect. And by having sense of self hood I mean they have consciousness.
This film totally sent me down a Cage spiral, loved it.
Nic Cage has said this is his favorite role of his ever!
When I saw it I wanted it to end with amir bringing him a piglet. I can't bear thinking about him all alone in that cabin 😅
It's kinda like the John Wick, "Pacifict run". I love this movie, I'm very happy you watched it.
Wonderful movie with a great setting. Would love to watch you react to The Banshees of Inisherin. Hands down my favorite movie since The Lighthouse.

I was somewhat lukewarm, although appreciative, with The Lighthouse at first, but then I noticed I couldn't stop thinking about it days after... It was a slow burn for me, but now I can say I really do love it for what it is. It's an amazing movie!
I got it. Loved inFamous 2 and Second Son. As for your interpretations; Personally, I feel like you hit the nail on the head.
Sweet 🎉
James, you should really do some Bruce Lee movies. They’d be great to dissect. Experimental cinematography, depth, humor, Bruce’s great presence, and just kick ass. All choreography for fight sequences were done by Bruce. Bruce actually wrote, directed, and acted in his movies eventually. He’s responsible for Chinese finally being depicted accurately in film and not stereotypes. He wanted to share the significance of martial arts with everyone. Fists of Fury, The Big Boss, The Way of The Dragon, Enter The Dragon, and The Game of Death are his essentials. Also starring Chuck Norris, (during his time as the reigning world champion fighter), and NBA player Kareem Abdul Jabaar. Both students of Bruce.
This movie shook me cuz Nicholas Cage, is an actor., Yep he phoned in a few, what actor hasn't, but When Cage is engaged in the story , none better!
Together with Adaptation, easily Nicolas Cage's best work! And it might actually top Adaptation, I vacillate between them...
Paris, Texas!!!
Can't say this was my favorite film, reminded me of 'the Lobster' it the sense that it was very interesting, very unique and I would consider it a well done movie but I probably wouldn't watch it again.
I actually really liked this movie. Was different but great.
Great reaction. Anyone who says Nicolas Cage can't act isn't paying attention.
