I'm sure I won't be the only person to comment this but, the entire movie was improvised. The character of Stu is a real person, (his actual name is Stuart), that was a friend of someone in the movie. Stu was on set and Taika liked him so he put him in the movie, he had no idea when they were filming and Taika told him to just react to the situations however you would normally.

Yeah, he's Taika's friend. He worked on Taika's previous films, went to high school with him and was his flatmate when they made the short film/test footage of this in 2005. He is also the guy who created the cool lighting effect used in that Valkyrie flashback in Thor Ragnarok. Oh and Taika said he set up the Wi-Fi in his mother's house and set up Jemaine's Wi-Fi (they mentioned that at a Q&A for this film to demonstrate how nice and helpful he is). He is an IT guy and the job he described in the movie was really his job.

the "he was on set so they put him in the movie" thing only really applies to the original pilot they did, by the time they filmed this finished product movie he had been involved with it for some time and had taken acting lessons and stuff. so yes, he was a non-actor who was just there to react to stuff originally, but not in this version of the movie. in this version of the movie, he's acting. it's not as good of a story, sure, but it's the truth lol

It follows them as they investigate other phenomena around the city. Also recommend the HBO series, as it continues in the same style of comedy and writing, but set in the US. They've also been talking about another movie called "We're Wolves", so hopefully more comes of that, and we can see more of Stu and his pack.

This movie has tons of the kind of subtle humor I like. For instance, when all that blood gets everywhere when Viago attacks the woman early on, and he's talking to the camera while holding a roll of paper towels. Or when the new vampire tries to fly in through the window in that smooth vampire way and it turns into an awkward and clumsy moment.

Anyone who can nail a mockumentary, I'm a fan for life lol. This is simply clever beyond my imagination for sure. Another of my favorite mockumentaries is drop dead gorgeous. Its hysterical and has an insane cast. Very underrated movie.

Oh man, Wellington Paranormal is such an awesome take on those stupid police ride-along shows. The casual humdrum approach of two oblivious beat cops mentally translating supernatural occurrences into minor offenses is pure comedy gold.

One of my favorite details in this movie is how each of the vampires in the house represents a different era in the history of vampires in pop culture. Petyr is clearly Nosferatu, the first film Vampire. Vladislav is clearly a reference to Vlad Dracula, aka Vlad the impaler, who was a magor inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula. Viago as the untight 18th century dandy is an Anne Rice era vampire. Now Deacon is a little different in that he combines characteristics from two movies that came out the same year, The Lost Boys, and Near Dark, that's why he's the youngest until... Nick, who I shouldn't have to explain since the character explicitly says, "I'm Twilight!" As someone who's been a fan of vampires since I was a kid this movie hit all the right buttons. 😊
