Ya, it seems very much improved. I left the film convert because of its slider like you said in shadows and hilite. The Colorista has also same problems in the past now it has improved a lot. Colorista is not film emulation but for color job it does well enough. What do you say Gerald? You can do the VDO on Colorista too from redgiant.
Hey Gerald. Thumbs up for this video! Very helpful. I've shot 3 months in HLG1 / BT2020 instead of Rec709 on the A7III. Any idea how to convert from BT2020 to Rec709 (if it even makes sense on the the 8bit codec)? Or if we can still use the HLG1 profile in Nitrate and tweak it a bit.

Great review. Thanks! Just a note. Tri-X was always and asa/iso 400 film.
perhaps the white balance temp/tint is being applied as linear light. I find that that transfer mode compositing in linear light really makes coloring look more filmic and not rec. 709 crushing. also, another transfer mode (color), with levels white output 140rgb can clip saturation to film colors. your vectorscope will get fatter but not extend outwards, just like film.
Well "done" Gerald, enjoyed every second, very informative entertaining and helpful ...peace out
So it's a bit more of a Creative and Corrective lut.. How would you use the film part of it but using Leeming luts on HLG shots in BT.2020??

Thanks for the video! So what does FilmConvert have that Premiere Pro 2020 doesn't have? It seems like the sliders and settings are identical to each other. Also, can LUTs be used in FilmConvert or do they need to be applied in Lumetri Color first?
Hi, just want out what in camera picture profile settings you'd use, aside from rec 709. Saturation % and sharpness? Would film convert handle it?

Can you use this with the leeming luts?
Hello Gerald, this is a completely unrelated question to this video (LOL). Are tripod ball heads interchangeable? I have an Oben tripod AC-1321 with ball head BA-106, it came with a quick release plate, I want to replace it with an Arca type ball head because I got an “L” bracket for the camera (Fuji X-T2 with a XF-35 lens) so that I can quickly go from horizontal to vertical. Any suggestions? Thank you.
The film grain definitely doesn't compress well on KZread - especially at 1080p - so I've never entirely understood the appeal of this kind of processing. BUT DAMN the update here is nice.

I bought nitrate and i really like it, but sadly my most of videos goes on youtube. And youtube somehow removes all grains and makes my video more pixelated :/ So on videos for youtube- this FX beacomes unusable. Any help?
I get grain in my videos how do I get rid of that and I also use film convert
Hopefully somebody still answers questions on 2 year old uploads. I have tried the old Film Convert and the newer Nitrate. Whether it's h.264 or ProRes RAW, whether I color correct first or just use uncorrected log footage, as soon as I drop FilmConvert on the clip it looks horrible, toooooo dark, too contrasty, skin tones shot to shit. The only way to get it even half way decent is to turn the opacity down on the adjustment layer I put FC on. In other words way too much work to even get my video back to decent. Any advice, oh Great Undone?
Any of you guys get the "no parameter is exposed to user or OFX plugin is not available"? and any idea how to fix it?
Wondering how this compares to some of the similar plugins available today?
Very interesting video
Question for an old school photographer. When you change the ISO on a digital camera, do you get a corresponding change in the grain of the image? In the same way that changing from one film roll to a different roll of film with a higher ASA gives you an emulsion with larger silver flakes and therefor grainer image?
@baqcasanke
3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Higher iso values gives you more grain in the image.
Good video
What happens if i shoot with BT.2020?
Hey Gerald! Great video man, I like how the grain is subtle. Really enjoy that look. I was wondering if you were a fan of black pro mist filters? I’ve heard they can help if you’re aspiring to get the “Film Look”. Many people recommend the 1/8 or 1/4 but I’d love to see a video of you taking a go at these types of filters. Let me know! Thanks for being so helpful
@geraldundone
5 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks. I've used them in the past, but I'm not a huge fan of them. I don't like the halation they offer. That bloomy light glow around highlights. There are diffusion filters that soften without causing halation, but that's VERY easy to reproduce in post. My technique is to shoot with 0 output sharpening and no diffusion filters and then decide what to do with that footage down the line. Gives me the most neutral starting point.

Does it make a difference if we shoot in HLG 3 BT.2020 beforehand. Because premiere converts the footage to Rec 709 already right? (Like, when using the Leeming LUT for example) Edit: It's probably how Filmconvert nitrate works, but still. I wonder if there's any advantage/disadvantage if I would keep shooting with the 2020 color space. Any thoughts ?

Think of this as more of a tool for colour grading and the film modes in the X-T3 like picture profiles. If you want more flexibility, shoot log on the Fuji and then use this method. It will give different results than the in-camera profiles. If you like the way the in-camera profiles look, then stick with it.
There's no A6400, should I use A6300 instead?

Hi, I love the look of the Film Convert Nitrate film stock emulations, however, over the last several months whenever I apply FCN to a clip it completely slows down Final Cut Pro X. Why is this? Other plugins don’t slow my system down in this way. The rendering takes forever - even if I turn off FCPX background rendering, FCN grinds my FCPX to a halt. What could be causing this and what do you recommend to improve this? Thanks.
