Coming out of the 2022 NFL Draft, Sam Howell was one of the trickiest quarterbacks that I scouted. He was a UNC player that flashed a big arm, he had incredibly high play-making ability, and he had a gamer mentality who always fought for extra yards. While it was easy to see the high-level traits, the reason why his film was so tricky was because it was marred by inconsistency. For how elite he looked in his game against South Carolina, the rest of his film was extremely hit-or-miss. It was really hard to get a true sense of which quarterback you were going to get if you drafted him.
Now at the end of my scouting report, I posed the following question: Can Howell repeat that epic performance against South Carolina and recreate some of the huge throws that he made? The funny thing is that against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 18, Howell did a lot of what I liked from that game and showed why I was willing to take him at the end of the second round. In this video, we’re going to break down that performance so we can talk about if he should be Washington's starting quarterback going forward.

He hit more guys in stride-waist high in one game than Taylor did in 3 games combined. Not to diss on TH, but this kid is much more accurate than TH or Wentz.

As a Tarheel and WC, I really appreciate seeing your breakdown here. You are echoing exactly what I’ve been saying since the recent WC QB statement. I want Sam to learn more from a veteran and not be thrown into the dumpster fire that is the WC coaching and owner sitch. There were too many failed former QBs, with great potential, not given the right developmental environment.

I love to see Sam next yeat starting, as long as we don't waste anymore money on average quarterbacks, and I would love to see Heineke backing him up, we can go a long way with these two quarterbacks. HTTR
It was ridiculous that Ron and Co only gave him 19 pass attempts in a meaningless game. Not that it matters with Turner being fired and Howell needing to learn a new system next season but it'd be nice to see what Howell offered in more situations.

They won and it wasn't even close. A win like that gives more confidence than if he made riskier passes and threw interceptions. A pick 6 could have completely changed the tone of the game.
The team has started Taylor Heinicke for the better part of two seasons. Sam Howell can only be an improvement.

In my opinion he should have started the last 5 weeks, now we will have to waste a whole season if he is not the guy to just tank and get a QB! But I think he will be ok, the OC is the first key to his success

@Gary Wohler exactly. I think it's a risk worth taking. 49ers are going to be able to keep their main core players for at least 3 seasons with Purdys salary. Might as well roll the dice with Howell and hopefully we can do something similar
IF WE'RE TRULY GOING WITH SAM AS QB1 RON NEEDS TO TRULY FIND AN OC WHO CAN HELP SHAPE & MOLD HIM AND RUN THE SYSTEM TO HIS STRENGTHS AND NOT RUN A SYSTEM THAT WILL SET HIM UP TO FAIL!

I completely agree, I think a lot of the people who don’t want Howell play are jaded fans who have been let down too many times by Snyder. But I really think Howell can be our franchise qb, he has all ingrained talent one could want. He has a great arm, mobility and he’s smart. The rookie mistakes he did make can be easily fixed by good coaching and practice

Great job, Sam.. love your content. Especially since you're a 'skin fan. I think your assessment is spot on regarding Howell. However, as you know well, in the NFL the interests of GM's, coaches, and other front-office personnel are often at odds with fans and the longevity/health of the franchise . Ron and crew can't risk gambling on Howell in their last year in charge. They need to make a statement that preserves their tenure.
Howell and Levis were similar prospects. Difference is Howell is three years younger at the time of the draft and is a better runner

Howell will be the 2nd or 3rd best quarterback in the NFC east behind Hurts and Jones
Start him and bring in Jimmy g to be a back up and starter if Sam struggles
Plan and simple yes why draft him if your not going to give him a chance !!
Update: Didn't pan out, unfortunately. Talented QB, nonetheless.
My question is why is it that QB’s we draft are always not nfl ready but QB’S that go on other teams fresh out of college are , in my opinion Washington scouts are terrible and I’ve been a fan since 79
i wish you would actually take one game from the slew of games that happen during the playoffs and do analysis. A prime example would be, why did the chargers offense become so inept in the 2nd half? Please give it a thought (i realize it's a lot of work but it might be striking while the iron is hot)

Draft who? We have the 16th pick and the good QBs won’t be around. Next years QB draft is soooo much deeper. Why mortgage the future for a QB when you can just play Sam. If he Stinks you are drafting high next year in a stacked QB draft. If he’s a stud you found your franchise QB. I would much rather use the picks on an impact player. Maybe the RB from Texas, maybe Porter the CB from Penn state. Maybe an offensive lineman. Maybe a TE. Maybe a DT if we can’t resign Payne.
Will Levis from the University of Kentucky would be a nice QB for Washington.

I loved the skins...or whatever they're calling themselves now (clowns?). Every qb they start is proclaimed the QB of the future if they have even a slightly decent game. Let's just be honest, there is a 99.9999% chance Howell is not the QB of the future for this franchise

Why just you dont' say what you really want to say! What you said is enough to get me to unsuscribe to your channel ! There are gonna be a lot of egg on a lot of faces after next year. The only reason Sam did not get to play this year was the 26 million that was spent on Wentz. The front office calls the shots on who plays whether you think it or not. Wise up people, the amount of money spent on a player has as much to do with who plays as or more than the coaches decisions. Go against the front office as a coach and find out how long you will be employed , simple as that. POMO
Boy knows nothing Howell should have been 1st rounder but because the college he played for is why he didn't go 1st round period Howell better than alot of starting qb in nfl stop being bias

He didn't go first round cause he had a down year but that's mostly cause he didn't have the weapons he used to. I honestly would've drated Sam in the 4th even tho I know he has first round talent..he's got a great arm.
