Filled With the Spirit - Part One (Archived)

www.truthforlife.org || By: Alistair Begg - Christians should be characterized by wise living because we have been made completely new in Christ. The world we live in, however, is marked by rebellion against God and disobedience to His law. In this exposition of Ephesians 5:18, Alistair Begg contrasts the wantonness caused by drunkenness with the fruitful life produced by the Spirit of God. Abuse of the good gifts that God provides leads to diminished self-control, but life in the Spirit frees the Christian to enjoy genuine joy, peace, contentment, and freedom.

I am so thankful for lessons which remind us that God gave us new hearts(natures) and that He wrote His laws on the new hearts. He gave us His Spirit to move us to obey His laws. ( Hebrews 8:10 & Hebrews 10:16) Most pastors, preachers, teachers today are teaching grace without obedience; they say we are not under law. But the theme of scripture is that mankind’s nature is evil, unable to obey God. So He promised through the Messiah to pay our debt of sin by His dying in our place ,so that the Father would give us of His Spirit a new nature with new desires so we have both the will and the power to obey Him. The theme of the book God wrote is obedience , but we could never obey laws written on stone. So, through Christ, He gives us new hearts and writes His laws on our hearts❣️ What a most wonderful judge! He says the sinner must die, then steps down to suffer His own judgement to make a way for us to live eternally with Him♥️✝️

I know you said that 9 months ago, but I've learnt through recent studies and experience that this can be due to our horrible modern diet stimulating insulin constantly, which, in turn, stimulates appetite. Sugar with every meal (plus snacks!) is not something human bodies had to deal with until recently. And our diets get more sugary every year. Cut all fruit & sugar from your diet, and see how much better you feel. Go further and eat keto, and you'll discover strong willpower to resist anything. The video "Sugar the Bitter Truth" by Dr. Robert Lustig is a great place to start. :-)

@@lilacDaisy111 Keto is definitely not a healthy long term diet. God created fruit, and wheat, vegetables, certain animals for meat. If I had to give up fruit, that I eat daily, as I do vegetables, I might as well not exist!! Fruit is very, very good for us!! Natural sugar contained in them.

@@emiliadavis8247 Before processed foods packed sugar into food, most people didn't have a problem keeping their weight down, did they. I agree with you -- a whole food diet is great, and it's what God designed. But when one develops problems due to adulterated foods, Keto is wonderful for regaining health. Eskimos are extremely healthy eating a keto diet their whole lives. And Papua new Guinni (spell) natives also had great health living on sweet potatoes! God made us with incredible complexity to thrive on many diets. xo PS, I thought I'd go insane without fruit, but after one week keto the cravings totally went -- it's my crashing insulin that loves fruit. When my insulin was stable, I could look at cold watermelon on a hot day and shrug. Our bodies are phenomenal! :-)

Love you Alistair, thank you for all you do, the hand of God is upon you mightily. I've learned so much from you, but I do have a question. I was just I'm John MacArthur's site where he was teaching about the Holy Spirit, and he has his comments turned off on that web page so I couldn't ask him the question so you're the lucky one ,I'll ask you. Tell me , can anyone really understand and explain the trinity before the Incarnation of Christ. After that Incarnation we can understand a little better because Christ is God but he is forever separate now because he has a flesh and Bone body he was a man who lived here. But the Holy Spirit is the one that conceived him and planted Christ in the womb of Mary and his relationship to God the Father to me is something we can understand because God the Father is Holy, all-powerful, and spirit, so why is the holy spirit not God the Father. Isn't it a metaphor , Father use just so we can understand that aspect of God ,his is a loving fatherly affection for his children but in reality isn't God in the Holy Spirit one in the same ?God the father is just a concept of him that we can understand better. cuz I know there's not too holy spirits , if we were given the Holy Spirit and God is Holy and is Spirit we have God. and I can't wait to see people lined up to explain to me the answer. the secret things belong to God and this is uncomprehended, you can make up a bunch of things and try to twist scripture and show this and that but this as unknowable until we get there then we'll spend all eternity learning about it.

Uh.. Not sure but I am sure if this helps at all but try to understand the Trinity through language. Its kinda counterintuitive. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit make up the Trinity. They are one as a man and woman are one when they are married. They are one in mind and heart (is how I understand it) but like I said its not really too important to try to understand a mind bending concept but rather learn more about God and His Will. Just a passing comment.

Same in kind but each have different roles. God the Father in relationship with His son Jesus, and the agency of the Holy Spirit. Of God, in Jesus through the Holy Spirit. This is my understanding. Hope this helps.

You know honestly, if you guys would just stop trying to be so clever and would just read the word and if you are filled with the spirit, you can interpret it for people who don't understand. You spend 45 minutes of an hour with the wisdom of men and maybe if we're lucky 10 to 15 minutes of gospel
