Love

www.tfl.org || By Alistair Begg - If we understand the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5 as a list of character traits we must work at developing, we may quickly become discouraged. In this message, Alistair Begg explains that the growth of spiritual fruit within us is evidence of God’s transforming power in a believer’s life, not the result of effort that we expend. As we apply our hearts and minds to the means of grace He has designed, such as Bible study and prayer, we gradually and continually grow in godliness.

God's word is timeless! This teaching brought to life for me the wholeness of the fruit of the spirit being one unit of combined characteristics of our wonderful Lord.

For me too Susan. We can thank Pastor Begg for sharing his Holy Spirit given understanding. Of course, without the Holy Spirit in us, we could not understand. Praise the Lord God for His LOVE and MERCY!

We need to define Love. tolerating any behavior, not wven God does this. There are so many levels to just loving.

God defines love. Read John 3:16, 1John 4:7-21. 1John 3:14-18. It is further described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 God wants us to learn to love as He loves, the more we become like Him (as His children), the more we will look at people as He does. God hates evil and all unrighteousness. He is good, patient, merciful, compassionate, forgiving, faithful. He wants us to have His nature. We can become all He wants us to be by submitting to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Praise the Lord for all His LOVE and MERCY towards all. Amen.

I love many people but can't handle being around them. Doesn't mean my heart doesn't love them. just in heart, not actions.

Bree Spree Reminds me of a saying my old preacher used to say, " To dwell above with saints we love, well wouldn't that be glory! To dwell below, with saints we know, well, that's another story! I pray to have love for people, to bear them, to have God's heart for others, especially those in the faith. It's the most impossible thing on this planet. Only God can change my heart.

Bree Spree , actions sometimes speak louder than words. I also feel the same. I have a hard time with unnecessary drama and would rather stay away from people.

1 JOHN 4:10 IN THIS IS LOVE: not that we loved God, but that HE loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation (the atoning sacrifice) for our sins. Verse 19 We love Him, because He first loved us. (UNMERITED LOVE) 1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed out of death into LIFE by the fact that we love the brethren (our fellow Christians). HE who does not love abides (remains, is held and kept continually) in (spiritual) DEATH. (OUR VALIDATION of OUR LOVE FOR GOD)

I wonder, does God assign fruit of the Spirit in measures...like how faith is given(Rom 12:3)?

We grow in the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. We grow in these aspects of the fruit as Alistair said. His intention is that we be conformed to the image of His Son. So it is not assigned in measure, the goal is Christ and we all are progressively being changed from one level of glory to another and we are all in different levels . But the measure is Christ so we all are to continue toward the mark. We have not arrived but hopefully we are arriving.
