I am 44 y/o and after 8+ years in AZ USA, my hubby proposed the idea that we go home to be with our family in the PH. He is retired military and the truth is he is tired of the politics, the rat race, the outrageous inflation in the US, and he said I am hurting myself giving my all working in health care. After working fulltime as night shifter for years, now I am dealing with several health issues. It is not all about money, good health and being with family are more precious. It took us 8 months since we made the decision to sell the house, get all documents sorted out, sent 100 Balikbayan boxes and even get our 2 pet dogs ready and approved for importation. By the good grace of God, we are almost to the finish line and our departure date is next week. We are thankful and excited and so looking forward to be home in the PH!

It’s nice to retire where one feel like it. You’re a retired Kaiser RN, you are well off and can have choices. I have been going to different islands in the Phil scouting a place to maybe buy and have a vacay house there. I figure I’d be there for 3 months out of the year. Staying here in Southern California is comfortable and convenient . I enjoyed staying in Airbnb in different islands so now I think it’s better to rent there in the Phil than buy since it will cost me $500./mo to maintain a house there while I’m here in California.

My sister just retired too as an OR Registered Nurse, 36 years at Kaiser Permanente in San Leandro, CA. I worked in the Pharmacy at Kaiser Permanente, Pleasanton and Boulder, Colorado. My parents has a condo at Vivere in Alabang. We don't use it too much. Then suddenly i had this idea to retire in the Philippines in my 60 years old, well it's me and my wife's idea. I think we're gonna be ok with saving, my superannuation like $01k in America, my investments, and pension. Well I'm not gonna receive pension until I turn 67 but, I'm sure well be fine. Planning to buy a house and a SUV that's it. Hopefully everything goes well, and will make Vlogs. They say time in the Philippines is slow, so that's good I'll have plenty of time to kill. I totally agree with you. Even here in the U.S. a lot of Nurses competing each other. Who has a big house and nice cars. Very materialistic people. They don't think how hard they work and their future. One nurse working for number of years and retired now she cannot even enjoy her life because she ended up in nursing facility because she had a stroke. She's by herself in the U.S. and if she die the retirement money it will go back to the company. How sad is that? I will be retiring soon to.

Hi, a new subbie of your channel. I'm just amazed I can relate partly with your experience and lifestyle choice-- retiring back in Ph early. It's nice to know it's not me alone thinking and planning of life this way. Some of my family members thought I'm kinda crazy. I will be leaving my job and returning to the Philippines. One thing, there is no place like home! I would love to establish my life back in the Philippines way before my retirement age...before i'm too old, with crumbling knees to enjoy life. I'm 56 and retirement age here is 67--- that's long way tormenting, just the thought of the years gave me the cringe. I have no joy permanently working on regimental work pattern for a company that makes themselves rich while I'm a glorified slave of the company. I hate the rat race and the cold weather too. I don't like winters. I love gardening -- just crazy with collecting plants. I love garden blooms. Actually I'm a mad one in terms of gardening...I'm obsessive. This is when the utter frustration starts when cold weather esp when jack frost kicks in, most annual summer varieties of blooms will die out and gone. I have many collection of plants through the years, but I lost many of them too. In the Philippines, that's not the case. Plants thrive there as long as they're taken care of, climatic seasonal changes isn't a big issue. My children are now adults, one will soon tie the knot and both are out of the nest, with promising careers. My plan is to come back to the Philippines and live there for good before retirement age. Possibly be back visiting my second home country 3 months in a year or so and return back to the Philippines. It's hard being away from my children, but I like living in the Philippines. I felt I will live longer for more years added to my life span if I'm living in the Philippines than living in the west. The house mortgage already paid off few years ago, but I'm not selling my house. I'll be renting out this house while I'm living in the Philippines. Although, I inherited from my parents better location property for business, but I also bought for myself few properties couple of decades ago, which I believe (God willing) can sustain me for a shift of income generation should I decide to come back to Ph much earlier.

We have the same way of thinking regarding expenses. My husband and I are retired and planning to retire in the Philippines by October!!!! May I know how old are you? retired last year at 55 also, as a physician. my son is just starting college in our state. i haven't really thought of retiring in the Philippines. i used to say mainly because of the high crime rate but it is just getting bad where we live also. i always go with the example of the abu sayyaf kidnapping a subsistence fisherman for ransom during the burnham years( wala na ngang pera 'yon nakidnap pa, more so if they get wind that you retired from the US). the congestion in metro manila is another thing, 2 hours to go a few kilometers' during rush hour by car, no thank you. the floods, grew up in Valenzuela before it was a city. the places that are really nice are really expensive also such as BGC. clark city looks promising and away from the congestion of metro manila. ideally i could retire in the province but i grew up in metro manila so i don't really have a home province. one thing that i am handicapped with is i don't drive when i am in the philippines. i learned to drive in the US so i haven't had the nerve to drive when i am there. i like the freedom of going whenever and wherever i want without having to hire somebody. what's so bad about eating in the cheaper restaurants, ha ha... honestly, fine dining turns me off with having to wear "nicer" clothes. you nailed it about not getting into politics with other people much as you dislike certain candidates. it's a good rule to follow anywhere. keeping up with the joneses anywhere will always get you in trouble. i have a sister in law who's a nurse and i remember conversations with other filipino nurses centered on what car so and so is driving etc...who cares. visiting is nice but we haven't gone back yet for a visit after retirement. health insurance is certainly the biggest cost to consider with early retirement in the US, so far it costs me my wife and my son $1191 per month , not so bad but we have to get another plan for next year as our current plan is leaving our state. did you retain dual citizenship? i assume you sold any property you had in the states prior to moving. the weakening peso certainly works to your advantage.

I refuse and hesitate to retire early here.. right now I'm still stressing bec. of rushing ..work... life is about work here... which is good but I think it just a dead end when it comes to retirement! What insurance do you have? Some insurance will cover international. You will have to pay first, then you send the bills to your insurance for reimbursement. I am retiring in November and I searched for insurance company that will cover globally. I found Kaiser will cover globally. I know someone’s father went home in Cebu and had an emergency brain surgery because of aneurysm. Luckily he has Kaiser. Kaiser sent their representatives to the Philippines to settle his hospital bills. It really depends of what type of insurance you have. Hi thanks for watching my video and question.short advice is save and invest.save and plan early, like me I started planning 30 years before retiring .save until it hurts.I am not familiar with canada.if you have employer sponsored retirement.make sure you put money there up to their matching.and the rest of the money .invest on a brokerage and Roth.investing on stocks and bonds.depend on your risk tolerance.live with in your means.dont compete with the jones. And if you are really retiring here.start checking the area you want to retire and start investing on your home slowly.Goodluck😇

That's partly why you should try to put as much as you can in your 401k so by the time you reach 55 between half your pension and your 401k you're not missing much. The average life span of an American I've seen is anywhere from 79-81. That means at 55 you only have about 25 more years left maybe 30 if you're lucky. And of those years you likely have only about 15-20 years left where you will be healthy enough to do just about anything you want to do. Time gets more precious the older you get so don't let money be your compass once you've reached a certain level of wealth.

I would suggest that you choose a rest house in a gated community cause you gonna have problems home invasion, thief's climbing up your fence
