FILIPINO MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY - Forest Pharmacy and Hard Work! (Philippines GRIND)

THERE WERE DEFINITELY A FEW FIRST TIME EXPERIENCES FOR US WITH THIS FILIPINO MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY IN BUENAVISTA, AGUSAN DEL NORTE!
We headed off into a rural area of Caraga for our next "SalikLakbay" with the Department of Science and Technology here in the Philippines. This community in Buenavista is home to many Higaonon, a group of Indigenous People here in the Philippines. We were welcomed with a ritual and then proceeded to explore, interact, listen and learn. Right away, you could tell the "forest was their pharmacy". I had the opportunity to experience many unique ethnobotanicals...
And then found myself having fun and learning about banana work! You just never know what will happen on a "SalikLakbay"...
Saliksik - Research
Lakbay - Journey/Adventure
This GRIND program is absolutely awesome! And I encourage everyone to look it up on Facebook: / grinddost
Power On!

Filipinos are innovators most often as a necessity. Not only to make their individual lives better, but their communities as a whole. I have so much respect for people like them. Curious about the banana vinegar. How does the taste & acidity compare to other vinegars like cane, apple cider, & coconut?

Morado banana is called Singkolyagas in my home province So. Leyte. It is very sweet and has a melt-in-mouth texture just like Lakatan (export banana). But among those ripe-to-est bananas, Tondan/La Tondan is my most favorite because of its just enough sweetness and chewable texture.

Omg Kulas that's so heavy man. Salute to the banana farmers for their hardwork. Kulas what's the taste of banana vinegar is it sweet taste? By nature i love vinegar especially cane vinegars like Marca Piña and the one Mimi is ordering with spicy vinegars. I don't know why, why i love for vinegars. Maybe i'm the only one who love vinegars in our family. Mimi always saying to me that i'm like drinking vinegars because it's always empty. Hahaha funny but true.

The song was from god in Higaonon ☁☁☁🌈 And the color for higaonon is red yellow and black 🔴🔴🔴🟡🟡🟡⚫⚫⚫ They are the indigenous people in Agusan Del Norte. They are a primitive people. They chew on those spicy leaf that make your throat spicy 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿 It is surrounded in clouds like Baguio and Marilaque and Bukidnon and Claveria Misamis Oriental ☁☁☁ Dut to it's high elevation on the valley ⛰⛰⛰☁☁☁ And they made a banana vinegar made from unripe bananas from it's extract 🍌🍌🍌 It is like 50 kilos carrying a one basket of banana made from rattan a small bamboo stalk 🍌🍌🍌🎋🎋🎋 Those are scandevish bananas AKA latundan and a lakatan bananas 🍌🍌🍌 the red ones are heavier 🍌🍌🍌🔴🔴🔴 And those bark are like couple decades old the older the park is it is really spicy. And those basket made from small bamboo stalk AKA ratan is a year old 🎋🎋🎋 And it lasts longer 🎋🎋🎋 And those vinegar are really sour due to it's acidity from unripe banana extracts 🍌🍌🍌

Buyo (manika?) is betel pepper. It's the same leaf used by mama chewers (still common in Sulu/Tawi-Tawi and the Cordilleras), which mixes betel, areca nut (bonga, bunga, buwa, etc.), and lime (made from crushed sea shells). It's related to black pepper, and the kava plant which is drunk in Polynesia.
