FILIPINO FOOD Is UNDERRATED 🇵🇭 Cooking CHAMPORADO With Story

British Family Cooking Champorado for the first time!
When we visited the Philippines 5 years ago we thought Filipino food was a bit basic, but now we know better because it really is underrated. Today we discovered Champorado and it is amazing!
Here is the recipe that we followed : www.thelittleepicurean.com/20...
We highly recommend this dish, it exceeded our expectations by far. Hope you enjoyed this little cooking with Story vlog.
Also you can check out Nuno's drawing tutorials here : • EASY crocodile DRAWING...
This is the start of our story. Our 'New Normal' and new future. We are moving to the Philippines for a new start and this is day 89 of our Philippines Daily Vlog which will document what life is like for a British Family trying to work out life in this very exotic and beautiful country.
Our names are Jmayel, Sacha & Story. We traveled to Siargao island with Jmayel's mum & Story's grandma just before the Global pandemic that sent the whole planet into quarantine. We got stranded for over 3 months and fell in love with island life, now we want to make that life more permanent.

Another varieties of sweet porridge are: 1. Ginataang mais ( ingredients a. just the same glutinous rice b. sweet style corn ( can be bought in can) C. Coconut milk D. Sugar to taste E. Water And 2. Tinutong or Tutong ( sweet porridge with grilled beans ) Ingredients a. Glutinous rice b. Tutong ( grilled mongo beans, which are readily available in the market) C. Coconut milk D. Sugar to taste E. Water Same with champorado: 1 cup of glutinous rice with 5 cups of h20. All must be mixed together in the casserole and let the glutinous rice soften and the consistency will just be right! Always let the coconut milk to simmer since it’s easy to spoil if not cook!

Champorado reminds me of Saturday mornings growing up in Davao City in the 1970s. My Mom made the best, with fresh milk delivered to our home! Yummy...especially on a rainy day... Have you tried eating ‘seaweeds’ yet? No cooking...just wash it well, mix it with fresh grape or cherry tomatoes! Get it from the wet market, next to fresh fish...

"Brown sugar, this is!" LOL you cannot more English than that. Story is an impressive artist. Champorado looks better when it is soupy after milk is added. I've never tried it with coconut milk. I bet it tastes great. Put the leftovers in the fridge for next day's breakfast, add hotwater ... or add toasted shredded coconuts. You won't see champurado on restaurant menus because it something Moms makes for breakfast. It is a comfort food.

Hi J, Sacha and Story! 😊 I we love champorado here at home. We are also vegan/vegetarian here at home. You can try arroz caldo. Instead of the usual chicken and egg they put, we use mushrooms and tofu as replacement... Also you can veganize another Filipino favourite food during rainy days, SOPAS. You can use mushroom also as replacement to chicken. We use Vitasoy Milky as replacement to evaporated milk. You can have a vegan version of many Filipino food. Enjoy Filipino food! 😊

But the tinoghong at province is not made by newly cooked rice. It is usually made from left over cooked rice which heated and boiled with water and put sugar. Kinda look like porridge. A snack style kind of improvice during childhood when you can't find anything of a sweet snack at the kitchen.

I remember in our childhood till we grew up (as adults) enjoying this delicious chocolatey-porridge like food...usually eaten together with fried "Tuyo" (salty small fish). The rice being used is 'sticky rice' called 'malagkit' in Filipino. Truly a yummy food fish! Kudos to you guys for loving this popular Filipino recipe-- 'Champorado'!🤗😋🍽️🍵

It's been raining in many parts of the country, including the National Capital Region (Metro Manila) because of a typhoon over Southern Luzon. Some variations of champorado is an addition of coconut milk instead of evaporated and sometimes a beaten egg to make the chocolate thicker in consistency. So delicious, especially during rainy weather.

I’m so glad you too are vegan. Tsamporado is a favorite dish of mine too and I have my own recipe for it. Easy and simple and quick and really really rich. First I cook sweet glutinous rice in a rice cooker which you turn on and let it work by itself quickly. Then in a pot I boil coconut milk, add pure organic cacao (there’s no tableya in San Francisco at least to my knowledge), cinnamon, a pinch of anise and salt and the piece d’resistance, monk fruit sugar (the healthiest of sugar with zero calories). This whole concoction is also the tastiest of hot chocolate and you basically can stop there if all you want is hot chocolate. Then I add the cooked rice to a desired consistency..

Eva June Marie Apalisok I know Arroz Caldo is a chicken dish. I was trying to explain to you that this family is vegan so they can't try it, as you suggested.

Its too dry. Should have been like a porridge consistency but with chocolate.

Its because of the rice they used and preference on amount of water. Champorado in our household is just like that too. We never mix or use regular rice, just pure malagkit (glutinous), tablea (cocoa), and not much water. If rice is used in champorado and turns out very watery, my mom and grandmom would get mad and ask the one who cooked if its carinderia or 10 pesos champorado they're eating 😅 We were always taught not to be thrifty on preparing homecooked meals. We also add or reheat with evap, powdered, or coco milk by preference. The only thing they should've done is mix the cocoa right away when the porridge is already boiling.

Nope. Never always like that. Most carinderia champorado's are watery though. Consistency is by preference. You may be using or mixing regular rice on your champorado if its watery. Our Champorado always have the same consistency as the one they cooked coz we only use glutinous rice.

Champorado is one of our comfort food during the rainy days apart from Sinigang (Sour Soup). We love eating that with a chitchat with our family while looking outside watching the raindrops.

Comfort food it is.. specially during rainy days. Ever since I my daughter tasted it here in US, now she oftentimes request for it. Sometimes I just do the short cut just for her. Oatmeal and add chocolate to it. Or leftover rice boil it in coconut milk then add sugar and the chocolate. She will eat either way. But her favorite is the authentic one 😀. Glad you liked our champorado.
