The Fila Axilus 2 Energized is a comfort focused tennis shoe with soft uppers and stiff midsole but will it hold up in the signature tennis shoe performance review featuring the Tennis Pro Doc playtest, serve test, infrared test, durability test, teardown and suicide test?
As a foot doctor I look at tennis shoes and tennis shoe technology a bit differently as I focus more on what foot types benefit from these shoes as well as the tennis shoe's functional attributes on the tennis court
Some of the main areas we cover in this tennis shoe playtest, and performance review are:
- The weight, durability, fit and playability of the Fila Axilus 2 Energized
- What are the features of the insole, midsole, and outsole of the Fila Axilus 2 Energized
- Fila tennis shoe technology explained

    Fila taking us back to the 90s with that packaging detail! I wish companies would still give us the tech breakdown of the shoe, either in an infocard or in the box details. Just takes me back to my younger years where I would gloss over sneaker magazines and be amazed at the new tech in the new sneakers coming out. A lot of it is just marketing in the end, but it's still a nice touch.

    Zack, after wearing these shoes for 3 months I can say this review is spot on. I would add that I really liked the shoes and felt they perform pretty well for the first half of their life, the last month and half they became increasingly unbearable. My feet were killing me by the end.

    Hiya, Doc! I’m wondering if there’s a proper way to make a medium width shoe fit a ridiculously narrow foot. Like stupid narrow-side-to-side and top-to-sole. I currently wear Zoom Zeros with two stock Nike insoles and two pairs of socks. Thanks!!

  • @FootDoctorZach

    @FootDoctorZach

    3 жыл бұрын

    So yeah typically 2 socks, you can layer moleskin in the mid and forefoot in the sides, you can put an orthotic in there to bulk it up as well as stop your feet from sliding- ultra narrow is tough for sure though

    So I’m sure you’ve answered this before but I don’t want to search through every comment on all of your videos 😅 what have you found is the plushest shoe underfoot? I have the FF Lav and I like them but they aren’t as plush as I thought they would be (i know they are up there in the cushioning, but are there any shoes that are plusher than the Lav?) I also find that they are very geared toward stability, which is not something I really need correction with. They are quite stiff for my liking. I’ve had five pair of tennis shoes since I started playing and haven’t loved any of them. Are there any that are really cushioned but also less constricting in the upper? Sorry if the doesn’t make sense. I have medium-width feet and tend to supinate slightly so I really don’t want anything that is more geared toward overpronators.

  • @FootDoctorZach

    @FootDoctorZach

    My pick for plushist is the GP Turbo and i like that especially for more supinatus / cavus/ adduction but i actually made a video on this just the other day on the shorts channel so check it out it may give you some more insight : kzread.info/dash/bejne/mmiltM2jd8KnYso.html - let me know if that helps!

    I concur on the Nike Air Zoom GP Turbo. They're the most comfy and cushioned tennis shoes I've ever tried. Probably the most cushioned shoes of any type I've ever tried. I'd like a similarly comfy non-tennis shoe to wear for everyday use.

    Looking for a shoe that will fit my custom orthotic. Nothing is wide enough or deep enough. Just tried the fresh foam lavs. Podiatrist keeps telling me to try Brooks, but I keep telling him those won't work for tennis. He says I need a shoe that doesn't taper in so much in the middle (when you're looking at the bottom of the shoe). Any suggestions? I wear a 2E width so finding something seems impossible.

  • @FootDoctorZach

    @FootDoctorZach

    3 жыл бұрын

    So there are plenty that will fit orthotics - it comes down to the orthotic too- they can be made to fit all sorts of shoes - in NB the 996 should fit one fine, in Asics the court ff2, in Nike the GP turbo, VC4 should fit one well, in adidas the SCB or SMB will fit them- I actually have - few patients in the SCB with orthotics now as well as NB, pretty much any tennis shoe will except the gel resolution 8, vapor x knit , Asics solution speeds( and I even have a patient in those wearing orthotics and he’s doing fine ) - but moral of the story is that an overwhelming amount of tennis players have them in their shoes so you should be fine fitting one in - the orthotics I make for tennis usually have a non slip cover, deep intrinsic heel, and a width that splits the first metatarsal and I’ve never really had an issue fitting those in tennis shoes - just remember to take the insole that’s already in there out - hope that helps 👍

    Would you say that, despite the nice lateral flange and rubberized caging on the upper, its flimsy heel kinda breaks the deal in terms of stability, especially re. ankle sprains? (And yes, I learned about the impo of a solid heel counter for ankles from you!)

  • @FootDoctorZach

    @FootDoctorZach

    3 жыл бұрын

    I think if you are prone to ankle sprains its a concern, the heel counter is very important for sure like you said but there is something to be said for that really wide heel base that will help to stop rolling- but for sure these would not be a top pick for me when it comes to ankle stability with those uppers and flimsy heel counter

  • @brandomaxwell
