Fijian waters are amazing and using bait boxes there is idiotic. I have no empathy for whoever got attacked. I'm also wondering what's up with the full wetsuits and hoods in a place where the water temperature is in the low to mid 80's with no thermoclines. And they're kneeling on (destroying) the reef. Fiji is one of the few places left with healthy soft coral, but not for long if tourists keep stomping on it.

Steve - I stayed at Beqa Lagoon a few years back, dove with them for 10 days, and did their Tiger Shark dive. Unfortunately for my group, no Tigers showed up this day, but plenty of large Bulls and other varieties - Great shark dive. A similar group and myself just returned from Tahiti last week where we did a liveaboard, and also a Tiger Shark dive... This time we were lucky that two Tigers showed up - they are impressive to see in person for sure. I have done numerous shark dives in all the top dive locations around the world. When you sign up for these you are signing up for potential danger... there is no two ways about it... You basically sign a waiver saying that you are signing up for potential danger. People think we are crazy for doing these dives, but I don't think crazy is the right word; I like to use the word adventurous. It is very unfortunate what happened to you on this dive. It is also extremely rare as these locations do these dives every day. I think it is unfortunate that you had to bash Beqa Lagoon for this though... I've watched all three of your posted videos and I would say that the staff did a pretty darn good job of saving your butt! They were on it... Big time! While this is certainly cool to post this video and brag to the world that you almost got eaten by a Tiger Shark, you went into their world, and specifically went on a shark feed dive, and therefore, put yourself in harms way. I doubt anyone forced you down there against your will. Every time I go diving I am entering a world that I was not meant to naturally be in, and I accept the risk that goes with what may come from this EVERY dive. Don't be sensationalizing this as a shark attack, or bashing Beqa Lagoon as they don't deserve it. They gave you an opportunity to do something that very few of us can say we did; and for that I am very grateful. Count your blessings that they saved you from further danger and if you are going to sensationalize this for fame, then please stay out of the water before you spoil it for the rest of us.

I've done 12 shark feedings there myself. They take extremely unexperienced divers (OWD below 10 dives) to these feedings. Look at the people. Bright yellow and orange fins (sharks like contrasts), they don't know that you have to keep you eye on the shark etc. They simply don't know wtf they are doing. A serious shark diving operation would not allow 95% of the divers in this movie to enter the water. Plus it is like a zoo down there. If you really want some tiger shark diving experience, take a 7-10 day dive cruise to tiger beach, bahamas (if you are really ready for it). It takes time, money and effort to do so, but it is worth it. This shit with these people... No, thanks...

Sharks can be fed safely but clearly this operation had no idea what they were doing. Look at the positioning of the bait box and the current... The current is sweeping over the bait box bringing the scent in between the shark and the divers. VERY bad idea. Currents are extremely important when feeding sharks in the wild. Not only is it ethically questionable AT BEST (and trust me I get the economic argument that a shark is worth more alive so it can be appreciated than if it was a victim of over-fishing...yeah, got it) - I would just rather encounter a shark without it being baited in and if I get a cool photograph.....great. But having to huddle together with a bunch of divers and then the dive-masters have to basically play lifeguard.....it's just dumb. I'd rather get an extra wreck dive or a black sandy macro heavy muck dive instead of something like this. Just my 2 cents.

That's something you'll never see a great white or any other type of shark do for that matter. 10 divers with noisy scuba gear on, bubbles everywhere... Most sharks would take off. But Tigers are known as Big dummies and the garbage bins of the sea cuz they'll try and eat or take a bite of just about anything and don't seem to be very strategic LOL. And lucky for the diver down there, you can pretty much push them with a stick and they'll just go that direction like sheep. Unless there is something dead in the area, then they're not going anywhere and you better leave quick and in a hurry.

I just think this is a bad setup. If I am correct then they have bait in that closed box to lure the sharks in. They therefore agitate the sharks who come to eat. The shark obviously didn't outright attack but was more likely irritated and confused. He turned away form the first diver despite that one having no protection whatsoever. The shark then was "distracted" by the pole with the loop touching his snout out of sight. It probably was a reflex that made him nibble in that direction to check what had touched him. That brought the shark off course and as sharks can not stop immediately and can not swim backwards he accidently swam into the diver at the reef. And again his reflex kicks in and he starts nibbling to check what he had encountered. Basically a man provoked test nibbling...

@@wanda1396 Shark diving is the main alternative to shark poaching. The same people who first started shark diving used to kill them to the brink of extinction. Now many do diving as an alternative to killing them. It's a huge tourism boost, (especially in the gulf of Mexico) and draws a lot more money than killing the creatures would.
