Those who consider the Alien Queen by McFarlane sucks: consider the figure was released about 10 years or more and it was the first time a company tried to do a representation of the infamous monster as detailed as posible and certainly McFarlane achieved it, also the technology and modeling techniques changed and evolved a lot since the golden days of McFarlane. Clearly NECA had a difficult task, to make an Alien Quen so awesome that everybody would forget McFarlane´s version and I think they made it but still I think the Alien Queen of 10 years ago still kicks ass.

There was a Queen done years before McFarlane's. I own it and the figure is small, just an inch or 2 in height over the other Kenner pieces. The feature that would point it out if you can see it is the feet on the queen look just like its wearing stilletos!

I remember buying the McFarlane queen way back in 2006 and thinking that there was no way someone would ever top this figure in terms of detail and quality. Now that I see the NECA version, I feel stupid...

The McFarelane is the first alien figure I ever owned and I still have it to this day, she is very stiff and with a glued on arm because it snapped off but I will always have a soft spot because of this I love the Neca Queen don’t get me wrong but, old Mc Queen here will always be somewhat nostalgic to me

I really hope that Neca gets the chance to start remaking the old Kenner aliens. Seeing all those crazy designs created in this level of quality would be amazing. Hope I'm not the only one who wants this.

I recently picked up the McFarlane version in amazing complete condition. It looks FAR better when you see it and hold it in person ... it's nice and heavy, and feels really solid and strong. The paint job is great, and alongside the display base with the human victim, the whole set is very nicely put together.

Having such a beat up McFarlane figure that's missing half of the set doesn't help. The look and style was based around the idea that the queen would be looking upon a recently born chestburster, so it's stance and expression were fitting as it was this horrific motherly figure which was kind of an idea carried by the directors cut version of the film what with Ripley loosing her own daughter and gaining Newt. Neca's character looks like it is more based on the action scene, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the queen's threat doesn't come from being a fighter, but the mother of the most dangerous shit in the universe, so to me, McFarlane's is creepier and better. It doesn't hurt that I have McFarlane's and Neca's costs 120 so I won't be getting it any time soon. But objectively speaking, McFarlane's carries the ideas of what makes the queen scare while Neca's carries what makes it cool looking. I prefer the scarier version because the Alien series, at its core, is a horror movie. So a massive ass intimidating fighter look of Neca's just doesn't seem fitting. Oh, and on your part about the odd hand form of the McFarlane's, it worked with the other part that you're missing so it looked as though the Queen was gently brushing the head of the host body, which is insanely creepy. And therefore awesome.

Also, the original price points are different. I bought McFarlane one for around $30 when it was released.

These are both fantastic figures. However its pretty clear the Neca is much more superior. The Mcfarlane figure still holds up I would still consider it now a days if it wasn't so expensive. I wouldn't mind having mcfarlane's figure that has that really awesome diorama piece or accessory. I love the blue tint that Neca gave the alien queen. Neca takes the prize. Great Review of both you really hit key points

The NECA queen is pretty much superior in every way. Everything is far more accurate, the paint job, the texturing, the sculpt, and the size compared to the other figures in the line. That, plus the articulation, it's just plain better in every way. They really did an amazing job.

I currently only own the McFarlane Alien (and am now convinced I need the NECA). I got her back when I was a kid, but unfortunately, my brother accidentally sat on her under a blanket and she broke in a few places, way back then. She was my favorite figurine back then, and still today. Even though she's pretty beat up, I'm able to pose her in the background while she has some drones hold her up in ways that hide her broken joints. Both shoulder joints are what I consider "brittle" plastic, and /will/ break very easily if you are not careful. Do not force the joint, work with it. Mine broke in a fashion that is irreparable (the male piece from the body mold broke off into the female arm joint). I believe the neck joint in mine broke pretty easily too, and the rubbery neck was not glued well into the main neck, and the glue became brittle, and came out pretty easy too. The tail node will wear down if you pop it in and out too much, which will make the joint loose and harder to pose. These are the hard lessons I had to learn with my favorite figurine as a kid, which taught me to take care of my figurines. Overall Design and Details? 8/10 (I wish there were more joints in elbows and knees, as well as mouth) Durability? 5/10 (Unless you plan on posing her and leaving her on a shelf, I do not recommend getting her to play around with. She will break.)

Just bought the NECA queen to put with my Blu-ray collection along with other movie figures. Now she is with my Alien Anthology.

Back in the day I would have said the NECA version is far superior, but now that I look at the figures I find the charm of the McFarlane Queen irresistible. The color, the head sculpt, the teeth, all the amazing little details. The NECA version is larger and more movie-accurate, but it's a lot ganglier too. I also don't really like the color, the yellow teeth or the open mouth all that much. If I had to spend that amount of money on one of the two, I just think the McFarlane figure looks a lot more solid and scary

The queen I got was supposed to be new and when I got it the box was beaten up a fair bit. when I opened it up to check it out i noticed the crest was coming off at the slider, nothing a lil glue cant fix, but also the tail joint looks as if its half out, and i tried to get it back in and it moved a little. any suggestions on how to fix that? warm water? besides that the figures great.

I'd been using the stand without the clip, but now i think I'm going to use it with the clip like you do.

Ok you convinced me to get one lol. your review is like comparing a kenner figure to a marvel legends. The difference is massive in terms of articulation, now I see why they couldn't bring the price down any further.

For a ten year old figure the McFarlane one is still incredible. I'm glad that you made that clear. If McFarlane was making Aliens figures with todays tech it might be as good as the NECA versions.

The McFarlane Queen originally came with a diorama part from Aliens, so it's definitely based on the original design. They did make an AvP Queen, but in a smaller scale.

congrats - you actually plugged the neca "W" shaped holder into the correct area lol. Although truth be told I am sure you would be fine plugging it anywhere. But where you put it gives it a hold as well as a pivot at the 2 ball areas so that it holds well upright or lower.

I loved the design of h.r.giger's especially in alien series. i wanna buy that

​@@idiot_city5244yeah the heavy blue paint on this looks ridiculous, should have been very light blue strokes, on a black or brown color scheme, the copper or bronze makes it even worse, regardless of how movie accurate it is, and you're right, in the film the queen wasn't really blue at all. The ressurection queen is miles better. That is my jewel in the collection.

Alright, I'm gonna break this down as I see it. Different opinions, but I think we agree on many of the same points. The color: the copper tones throw the eye in the Neca version. I get "biomech" but don't take away from the sculpt by making it look like a 90's video game. McFarlane wins paint. Its dark and beautiful. Sculpt: Close... Neca has a slimmer better sculpt, but McFarlane isn't bad by any means. Pose: Someone complained about the permanent foot pegs... REALLY? The HIDDEN foot pegs bother you more than a giant metal post? Neca offers better articulation, but that only matters if you want your Queen to do insane things. Both have a good "lunge" pose, I'm not "playing" with it, I'm posing it, and both have the pose I want to leave it in. Tie. (However, this will change with the addition of the Power Loader). And finally, accessories... the different little heads with Neca... ok. Cool. Thanks. The grated floor with the colonist inaction figure, complete with chestburster... suck it Neca... McFarlane wins it. Neca is a better company, with better sculpts, but McFarlane did well with a terribly articulated Queen. Enough so that I refuse to accept Neca's as "superior". (I own both. I LOVE both. I own a TON of Alien stuff... so don't accuse me of ignorance towards the subject at hand.)

For some reason the mouth pegs in mine do not fit at all into the supposed holes. I peeked into the Queen's mouth and the hole is more like a rounded slight depression and there's no way I can see that peg fitting into it.

didnt know Neca made a Queen figure the same size as the old McFarlane one, i got the old McFarlane on my shelf like 10 feet away, still 100% intact and actualyl combined with his first AVP figureset which was the Alien and Predator dual pack with the facehugger/egg base (with the light up eggs!) cus i figured if theres a person being chestbursted then its only suiting theyd be in part of the hive where the Eggs are lol

Not sure if it's been said but the neca queen's feet are upside down. They shipped like that and most people (myself included) didn't know until someone else points it out. Turn them over and they look so much better.

The Neca version is the best. I love the head hiding idea.

McFarlane’s Alien Queen looks more like the one from Alien: Resurrection, whereas NECA’s looks more like the one from Aliens.

If you still have that Kenner queen around, you can just use it as the ancient queen from the AVP game.

Neca's definitely wins for movie accuracy. I'm starting to think the McFarlane Queen was more based on the AVP game. cuz it really doesn't look like the ALIENS Queen. BUT McFarlane still did a very good job. So really now it all depends on which DESIGN you prefer. McFarlane's would go along with AVP figures a bit more... If they were based on the game anyways.. Great review man! Can't wait for the rest! And I CANNOT wait any longer to get this epic figure! :D

Personally, I like the NECA paint better,it just seems more varied and sophisticated compared to the McFarland one. Though I have not yet seen the movies, it seems as though it would be somewhat accurate at least. I expect such out of a NECA toy, especially one that expensive and special.

I own several Alien Queen figures. The Neca is great, the McFarlane is okay. But better and larger than even the Neca...the Sideshow Alien Queen...and even larger, and my own personal favorite...the Palisades Alien Queen, that thing is just totally baddass.

NECA wins....hands down! But, the McFarlane version is great, too (for the time it was released 10+ years ago). I should be getting this awesome NECA version in about a month from BBTS! Great review, bro!

Neca. However I used an old McFarlane alien egg base to balance her.

It's so weird; looking back through the old stills and models and stuff from the movie, sometimes she's clearly blue, and sometimes she's clearly black, and sometimes even the same shot can be different colors, based on how the image turned out.

The blue paint on the NECA queen may seem a little heavy handed, but the actual movie prop/puppet had a much more colourful and highly contrasting paint job than you can make out in the final film footage. I suspect this figure would display and photograph great with the right lighting..

No comparison. The Neca Queen makes McFarlane's look like a rubber ducky.

You are an idiot , in fact it is obvious that no one distinguishes good quality plastic McFarlane to poor quality plastic alien queen plus a painted neca shoddy . I have both & although the NECA version looks a lot more awesome, I'm going to leave it in the box since I already have the McFarlane version out of the box (& the original deluxe Alien queen figure from the Aliens toyline.)

NECA's looks better in almost every way, but the cost is too much for some collectors. I remember the McFarlane one coming out at Toys R Us for $19.99 back in the day, which is astounding if you really think about it. Great Review!

I don't think I have the flying queen, but I do have the regular one. Over the last year I picked up most of the old Kenner aliens cheap at a flea market. I think besides the flying queen I am missing the king, all the humans and a few of the later figures

I shredded my thumb while making the wings flap, they moved pretty harshly. The Snake's bendy wire ended up causing the body to fall apart after a while... I was still in high school (2000/2001) and played with them a lot, but the Bull was fun

Why is the Queen blue ?????

ok. being an aliens fan yourself you should have noticed a huge difference between them.for one, they are both a different color. two, their head domes are different. three, they both have different shapes in their spines. ill just say this, the one on he left is a queen, obvious enough. the one on the left, is the empress or otherwise known as the matriarch. their is a difference as seen between the two alien movies. these two are Alien2 and Alien vs Predator.

This is a awesome battle Neca won in my opinion but really tell me this doesn't sound dirty:but there it's a word way to use it because you have to grab her somewhere and move it
