Figure Skating Single Axel Progress | Learning as an Adult (journeybacktotheice)

Figure skating single axel progress as an adult skater! In this video I will be bringing you through the entire 3 year process of me landing my waltz jump all the way to my single axel as an adult skater. I never did jumps when I was younger so I learned everything from scratch as an adult. I definitely think it makes learning these a bit more challenging because you are further away from the ground, but also a little less fearless than a 7 year old. Regardless I wanted to make this video to show others that you absolutely can learn + land an axel as an adult! I also wanted to show that your axel attempts don't have to look picture perfect when you first start...that's unrealistic. My single axel journey has been on and off. I had to take breaks for competitions, injuries, and a bit of burnout during the process.
When I was 19/20 my only goal was to land a waltz jump. I told myself once that happened I would quit skating because I had achieved everything I wanted to. 3 years later I'm still skating with my next goal of landing a double axel by the time I turn 30. This sport has taught me that you are capable of just about anything if you put your mind to it.

I really admire your determination. I got and lost my axel twice and it’s been 2 years since I landed it last time. At some point I lost hope that I will ever land it so I stopped practicing it. Your video showed me that everything is possible so I should give it another go and be patient with myself 😊

I dont know how I ended up on this video but I aprove :). I am no expert but just a question, would box jumps help to get more explosive and higher jumps. Footballer Christiano Ronaldo jumps really high....

I like how you really focused on it. It does really take a long time lol if I say myself but I had to learn my lutz and flip and loop and get my back up straight so I could learn the single axel and I started this year! And I am landing them on the harness and practicing them. I am also practicing off ice to help me with my single axel. 😊
