This game really shows how shallow his knowledge is on fighters.

i used to play chess with the best player in my state, and he would often play down to a queen and a few pawns, then win. i was such a low Elo compared to him, he shouldn't have even been playing me so he considered it an interesting challenge to win with as few pieces as possible. he would also often sacrifice his queen for no reason right away lol

TAKE IT SERIOUS! definitely go with the build a deck idea that'll create a suuuuuper diverse encounter between every match if you go like a dead by daylight thing where characters have a set amount of unique cards that if you use the character or the cards enough you can use them on a different character and create like a mix up of moves man I like this has got my creativity juiciiiin XD

Just played a few rounds of it, it feels a lot more intuitive than I expected. Definitely a lot of fun, and I support the continuing of this project, if you choose to do it, for sure!

This concept is super sweet! As a huge fan of deck building games I’d love to be able to customize my deck of moves, but I’d pick up a card based fighting game any day. Hope I see this in a store one day!

well, to be fair, the mindgames aspect is already present in all fighting games (maybe except those really shitty ones). This game just basically shows the raw mechanics preventing fighting games from being based on mashing buttons - ranges, position, and the startup-damage-recovery timeframe trifecta - in a very explicit, but simplified way. The only thing this game doesn't have (yet) is blocking and - at least I feel that - combos (basically there's no opportunities to hit an opponent in a way which would allow you to hit him again before he recovers).

"Now in theory this is really easy to implement" "I screamed at my computer monitor for 3 hours before giving up" This is very relatable.

I'm into them here's some tips -start with shoto characters -learn how to do special move inputs by doing a special 10 times in a row -learn some combos (some games has combo challenges some of them are good and some are bad) -try some different characters that fit the way of your gameplay (you can use the same character it's ok) -do the same thing again if you replaced the character -try some online -learn some framedata and hitbox data -learn matchups -practice against characters such as DLCs and with buffs or nerfs -maybe try other characters -maybe try other games

This seems incredibly interesting. I really like the concept and presentation. I'm an active fighting game player and play multiple games at a High level in tournaments. I haven't tried your build but here are some things I'm concerned about: -Turn Based Style (I actually don't mind this too much lol. I think its weird but there could be a genre for this) -Camera Angles (I think there should be a like, fixed angle so that's it's kind of hard for both characters to be out of view. Check out Tekken for what I mean exactly since I get mad Tekken vibes. ) -Netplay (Not exactly necessary and hard to implement but it'd be really cool to be able to play with other players. Unless it's in already in which, cool.) If you eventually change it to be real time based instead of turn based and want netplay to be included, please decide to take a GGPO rollback netcode approach instead of using a delay based netcode, although I believe either may work. I'm sincerely interested in this game and wait in the discord for updates. Sincerely yours, AHzdeck

Here's an easy compromise for the "real time" thing. A good old classic solution: time limit. With this option, it can be fully turn based or give you a fixed amount of time to act. Use less time than you're allowed to and you may add those extra seconds to the limit next turn. Alternatively, saved time may build up a metter unlocking special moves, thus encouraging quick play. There's plenty of solutions to make turn-based games engaging.

Love the direction this is going. For the animation blending you can use Playables instead of sampling the animation clip, create a PlayableGraph, turn two animation clips into AnimationClipPlayable, and feed them into an AnimationMixerPlayable, and then into an AnimationPlayableOutput that targets an Animator. Adjust the weights on the AnimationClipPlayables between the mixer, and you've got interpolation. You wont need any resting poses this way, and you won't need to worry about animations not lining up.

Yeah, this can and should be an actual fighting game. The card selections could even be unlocked should there be a story mode for single player action.

I suppose the design language could be a bit better - just making things “more obvious” (as she had said) and clear

I would love to see a deck building aspect. And having multiple characters that add some sort of passive effects like “punches are 1 turn faster” or “you draw extra cards after ducking” or whatever. And possibly combo cards that grant some bonus if your previous move was a certain type of move…
