For those who don't realize, at 50 seconds she waved it off because she knew something wasn't right. Then the other fighter proceeds to beg the ref to get medics in. It reminds me of when Lawrence Taylor breaks Joe Theisman's leg. He frantically waves for help to come even more than Theisman's own teammates. He puts his hands on his head like he's really distressed about what he just accidentally did to him. That's real sportsmanship and even though the injury was gruesome, I kind of love watching that clip because Taylor's response to it was absolutely wholesome.

To be fair, it's the ref's job to stop the fight. I've seen fighters let up when they think the fight is over and the ref DOESN'T stop it... and then their opponent recovers a bit and continues to fight. Competitively, it makes sense to go until the ref stops you, but in some cases where you see one fighter get ragdolled or they're clearly out it makes sense to stop even before the ref ends the fight.

Before I started competing I thought striking after the opponent was unconscious was necessary to secure the victory. However after actually experiencing someone at my mercy unable to defend themselves it changed my perspective, self control is the perfect way of describing it. Fighting is hectic and intense and sometimes you can't even remember bits and parts of it, your body just takes over. But when your mind and body are in sync things slow down and you can make better decisions.

I truly appreciate when athletes like this know when to stop inflicting damage to an opponent. I know some people really deserve to get their asses stomped, but when you’ve got an obviously unconscious opponent who is completely unable to defend themselves, the better person recognizes it and stops swinging/choking/smashing.

Has it been 'known'? It can, but in the same way a punch to the head can kill someone. It is exceptionally rare, pretty much impossible to replicate outside of a computer simulation, and takes more force over a shorter period of time than 99% of people can do (Including fighters). So yea, it’s possible, but if anyone says they can reliably do it they are lying. Spaz.
