I have purchased 7 Parkhurst boots and over a dozen GS. Never had an issue with either. Above and beyond QC from GS and from Parkhurst, especially since he moved production to Spain. Also above and beyond Customer Service from Parkhurst

Parkhurst's studded sole is softer and more comfortable than Grant Stone's. Both companies make great boots.

Picked up the Parkhurst Dark Chocolate Roughout recently and they have fast become one of my favorite and most comfortable boots. They quickly develop a great look from the little nicks and scraps that happen normally during wear.

I don't know if these can be compared with the expectation that one is objectively better, because they are both quality boots on what I think are two of the best lasts. I have Grant Stones and Parkhursts and personally can't say which is objectively better. I think it's personal preference, with both boots winning! Also, I'm happy to evaluate my boots on the boots themselves, not on the basis of where they are made or who makes them. Free speech is of course encouraged here in the peanut gallery, but anyone from the USA dismissing foreign-made boots out-of-hand might consider the very computer or phone they are typing on. I like your videos in part because you don't discriminate except for quality -- an excellent approach.

I’m glad you mentioned the Diesel in Earth, I felt like it might have been a better comparison as the Edward is slightly “dressier” as a silhouette.

I agree with you on the leathers from the same tannery complementing each other. The HORWEEN cinnamon waxed flesh kilties I purchased from you for my Black cxl brass boots are looking great imo, couldn’t be happier. I am biased as I don’t own any Parkhurst but in that leather I think the Grant Stone has a better profile and makeup. I definitely would like to try some Parkhurst but maybe not this one. Also, never been a fan of bright brass.

Would love to see Caswell's Lisbon (I or II) boots in Waxy Commander thrown in this mix. I just wore mine on a trip to Tennessee, playing in the unexpected snow storm with my grandchildren, and they performed marvelously!

I have the Parkhurst Niagara (in natural veg retan) and it is built like a tank, and they are flawless. Not quite as comfortable for all day walking as my diesels in CXL. I have 12 pair of GS shoes and boots and I’m a devoted fanboy. If I’m hiking (did 35 miles in the Sierras last summer in them), traveling, or walking around Disneyland all day, it’s the Diesel. Both companies make exceptional products at reasonable prices. I do find the Leo to be better for me, especially if I’m on my feet all day, than the 602M, just a tad more length and room, but both work for me. The Niagara is way more stylish but it’s apples to oranges. Love both companies. Cheers!

I got a pair of Allens in the 602m last recently and they feel almost custom fit to my foot, I love them. My feet are between a C and D though so I feel like for a lot of people they might feel narrow around the ball of the foot. Grant Stone lasts fit a little bit roomy for me (still love them!) but I feel like they're gonna be more forgiving for more foot types. Love both companies. Cheers!

I thought you had them backwards at first because my Earth Diesels look so much like those Parkhurst at a glance. Particularly the natural split reverse welt, definitely think of that as a Grant Stone signature.

I compared the lining stamping on my Caswell boots to the Parkhurst, and they look the same. It looks like they are made in the same factory, which would be good. I've not yet been able to get my hands on Parkhurst, as they always sell out.

Dale, As usual your reviews are very in-depth. I gave the Parkhurst Allen in Green Kudo. What I like about Parkhurst is the fit. I have a wide foot especially on my right side. There last is very good. I have never bought a Grant Stone boot yet but understand they are phenomenal. An interesting side note- I am a commercial contractor and bought a pair of cheap Brazos moc toe boots that with some slight modifications- kiltes, leather inserts they fit my feet as well or better than the Parkhursts. You should review them and add some improvements with your leather skills. Keep up the great videos. Ben N. Birmingham, AL

The alden boot , then parkhurst and last the grant stone. Parkhurst looks good with color coordination plus a bit rugged , alden well built like the nap as well and grant stone look a bit boring . I love grant stone and hope they jump into the more rugged boot other than casual dressy look . Hey great video 🙂

Just ordered a pair of Grant stone Edwards. Has anyone experienced severe pinching on the toe only on one shoe. The fit is fine but where the boot flexes it goes straight down on my ring toe. Do they just need to break in? Thanks

Had a really unfortunate first time buying experience from Parkhurst recently after purchasing a pair of first quality boots at full price. Received the boots with numerous consmetic and fit issues and requested a return and refund. The owner (i presume?) was weirdly defensive and basically insinuated that the boots were fine and I was over exaggerating. Had to pay for return shipping myself. On the plus side he gave me a prompt refund without the restocking fee that they apparently charge for returns. These "firsts" had more quality control issues than any pair of grant stone seconds I have purchased. Maybe i've just been spoiled with grant stone's customer service and quality but I'm done with parkhurst after that experience

I watched a KZread video of a guy recently that was reviewing a pair of parkhurst Allens that he had just received. The quarters were sewn on completely crooked, so much so that the eyelets didn’t even line up. Being basically a one man operation and the boots being “finished” in house, there is no way that the owner of parkhurst wasn’t aware of this issue before he shipped out the boots. I was considering picking up a pair of Parkhurst before I saw this video. After seeing that pair of boots though, I’ve changed my mind. Your experience further confirms that the QC isn’t what it should be. I think I’ll stick with GS.

Seems out of character for my personal anecdotal experiences with Parkhurst. I've purchased firsts with great QC, and several pairs of seconds where I couldn't find anything wrong. Andrew has always provided exceptional, prompt customer service. I love both companies, and also Caswell!

Interesting. I have a pair of the Allen’s and they are my favorite boots I own, quality is excellent - in many ways superior than Truman. I had a similar QC experience to yours with White’s MP boots which had deep indentations on both toe caps. They returned them no problem but did try to convince me to keep them, reminding me that they are hand made and due to have some flaws. I told them I had no problem with some flaws, but the indentations were unacceptable and they ARE $600 boots ffs.

I tend to favor the Parkhurst. The GS leather lining makes for a lot more heel slip vs a non-lined boot. Plus the GS seem to be overly heavy. GS outsole is slippery… should have went with Dainite.

Basically all of the components of the GS are produced in the USA. The boot is just “assembled” in China. Many “American made” boots are the opposite, assembled in the USA with imported materials. Unfortunately, American made doesn’t carry the same weight as it used to. The QC of GS is absolutely top notch. Therefore, you really are getting the best of both worlds. You’re getting top notch American made materials put together with top notch expert craftsmanship.

just curious… are you “not paying $400 for made in China boots” for political reasons or quality reasons? I’m assuming it is for quality reason, otherwise you would just say “I’m not buying boots made in China” and you wouldn’t even mention the price period. But the fact that you mentioned the price makes me think that you are unwilling to purchase them because you don’t think it is a good value. In that case, you’re simply ignorant. No other boot on the market at the $400 price point, with the possible exception of Parkhurst, is of this build quality.

  • @SR-ob3wn

@@whereRbearsTeeth If i can afford $400 for boots, I can also afford the extra $100 to buy boots that are not made in China. It’s not a political decision, it’s an ethical / value decision. I do buy some products that are made in China, but those products offer a considerable value vs the alternative (usually they are significantly cheaper by magnitudes). As I also said I would not buy a made in China suit for $1500 when I can buy a suit made in England for barely more than that. In this situation, while Grant Stone does make high quality boots, it appears to me that most of the savings on labor is going into the owner’s pocket considering I can purchase boots made in the US or Europe for a very similar price that have similar quality.
