Fifties Coach Travel

The 1950s was the age of the coach. Before the package holiday people used to travel by coach to their holiday destinations as well as taking coach tours. Here we have film of those far off times set to sounds and music of the 50s.
The music is played by Cyril Stapleton and his orchestra. Download it at:-

I'm 51 and the 50's appeal to me so much more than the horrible times we live in now. Would love to have been aroubd back then.

So nice to see smartly dressed men and women. And with no ugly tattoos. I remember mum in the 1960s and '70s always made an effort to put rollers in her hair the night before she went into town, shopping. She always looked smart when going out.

Everyone made the effort to look good 😊 stylish & classy. Make up on & hair done 😊 people took Pride in themselves & everything they did 😊 miss the great attitude of people & country 😊 I was a 60s baby & always admired how smart people were for every occasion.

Many take longer today to get ready and to greater lengths so you're premise is incorrect. Styles changes - and some come back, some never - surely you've learned this by now.

Fabulous 1950s colour footage set to music. Thanks for taking me back to a long gone era of travel, where coach drivers wore peak caps and white coats, and the roads seemed almost deserted.

Captures the time. Free and easy in retrospect but at the time everyone worked hard and cut their cloth to suit their salary.

I remember being able to walk among the stones at Stonehenge in 1977, but the next time I visited in 1991 you had to gaze at them from a few metres distance. Maybe if we had dressed better, things wouldn't have changed. 🙂

Remember the AEC coaches in the fifties; could count the engine revs at idle because it was so slow. The drivers then had to work very hard with no power steering, low engine power and poor braking ; I think a lot must have gone deaf prematurely.

Looks good, but it was in a travelling ashtray, the smell was vile, some things have improved and a clean bus is definitely one of them

Yeah, I was a coach driver for 35 years. I was a non-smoker and sometimes it was pretty grim when they lit up, smoke always seemed to travel down the coach towards the driver. The job got vastly better when we stopped them smoking. Apart from that, it was a fantastic job that I absolutely loved doing. OAPs were always the best passengers

There was another version of this without the 50s music but with more ambient sound and some classical music. Do you still have that version or was it another Channel? I can't find it any more on KZread
