My seventh great grandfather fought against the redcoats under the command of Col.Casey of the South Carolina regiment. He was later caught as a prisoner of war and executed by the Tories. What about all the Tories who were killed, executed, imprisoned, stripped of property and/or exiled for doing what they thought was right: being loyal to their King and Country? Sucked for both sides, and they didn't even win in the end. We're talking about 1/3rd of the whole population. More of the "enemy soldiers" in that war were other Americans than were actually British Regulars.

Not even "Tories", that's a political party back in Britain. British Regulars are just that, Regulars. Both sides faced hard times just like in any War, good thing these sacrifices eventually lead to one of the strongest alliances in the World.

Also funny people seem to think this is somehow "American music". No, Britain used drummers, fifers, and bagpipes in their armies. All militaries did, it was the only way to transfer commands on a battlefield back then. The Continentals were just adopting the same system everyone else used already. Although some specific songs came into wide use that hadn't been before. They didn't "invent" fife and drum music though.

Well yeah I'm proud to be an American, but looking at what our country has come to after all we've done is disappointing at the same time. We did so much to get the name "America" and that name is gradually being thrown to the trash because of what's going on. And it'll get worse later on. Our Founding Fathers are spitting in their graves and shaking their heads at what this country has come to. -_- But _yes_ I am proud to be an American, and this song makes me feel thankful to those who gave their lives just for the sake of freedom. Proud of my English heritage....but I'll forever be loyal to America! Go blue! I looked up my Gunnell name and found out I too had Gunnell family members who fought under the command of General George Washington. I also found out my bloodline is connected somehow to Martha Ball(I think is the surname)and lastly Gunnells too were involved in the Civil War. One of my Gunnells were a doctor who first treated the northern soldiers then fled to the south and worked for the men in gray,if anyone is familiar with the tale of Mosbys Raid....William P.Gunnell House(Fairfax County Va.)yep! Connected there too.

Both of my great grandfathers fought in ww1. One was German and the other was American. My grandfather was in the US navy during ww2 and korea. I plan to join the marine corps when I'm old enough.
