Field Strip: Smith & Wesson M&P FPC (Folding Pistol Carbine)

In this Field Strip video I show how to disassemble and reassemble a Smith & Wesson M&P FPC. This is a similar firearm to the Kel-Tec Sub 2000 but it has a unique way to come apart and I felt was worthy of a video. I hope this helps someone in the future.

Good morning, Jason, after watching the strip down of the unit, it quite clear to me why it's built the way it is. I am a bit in love with the gun. And if I was in your world, I would own two, with ten magazines each. Cheers

A quick tip: if you stand the firearm upright on the buttstock and apply downward pressure, the extra mag pin or button releases much easier. Other than that, this is a fine video to demonstrate the take down and re-assembly of this firearm. Very well filmed and explained. This is a fun firearm to shoot and has multiple applications, whether it be for home defense or just target shooting.

I actually work at smith and Wesson on the fpc assembly line, this is an amazing video. The only advice I have is when u go to pull the latch on the stock to remove it, it’ll be easier to stand the gun up and pull down on the handle so you slightly compress the big spring in the stock. Once that’s done it’ll alleviate some of the pressure making it easier to pull that latch out. Other than that this was an amazing video

Nice video, but one thing I haven't seen mentioned is that once you pull the bolt/carrier mechanism out, the hammer can, or will lurch forward (sorry if I missed here). Then when you reassemble, the hammer will not be positioned to fire. When I went to the range yesterday for my first test - I couldn't fire the FPC. VERY bummed. So to save others from being very bummed, here's a tip: When replacing the carrier, make sure the hammer is fully cocked, either manually or by virtue of dissembling when it's cocked. I hope this saves someone a trip to the range and not having the FPC function as planned. The FPC is actually very easy to disassemble and reassemble if you follow the process defined here and make sure the hammer is set properly upon reassembly. The first time is maybe unusual if you're used to AR15's or shotguns, but the 2nd time is just a few steps and handle the slider spring so it doesn't launch, then it's 1-2-3 and done. Very well designed. The other thing I'll mention is complaints on how the mags are released from the stock. I really like how that was designed. Again - a few practice sessions and you'll feel very confident of dropping and replacing a mag. An improvement would be if S&W would orient the mags 180 degrees in the stock so when they pop out, you shove them into the mag frame without rotating. One step removed in a time sensitive situation could be the difference between your life or the goons. On a good note - I put a couple hundred rounds through my M&P Shield Plus yesterday and a couple mags through my friend's tricked-out 9mm Staccato 2011 - sweetest handgun I've ever fired, but I don't want to spend $4K for my own. I'd rather put that into another 1/2 acre of TX land.

If you are interested in a PCC, you NEED to purchase this one. Shortcomings (already covered in the plethora of videos out there) are minor, recoil is nominal, it’s a friggin laser of a shooter and you can’t beat the cost. The one negative not mentioned in any video I’ve seen is that powder blowback is significant. Keep your mouth shut and head as far back on the butt as comfortably possible

  • @ccowboyearl01

Important note. Rack the gun. Put safety on. Do not pull trigger. It will not go back together if the trigger has been pulled. I learned the hard way. I use a 1/2 " dowl rod to put buffer tube it. It won't just drop down. Just tap it. There are videos on how to disassembly the firing pin assembly. I've shot about 1000 rounds. Great gun. Very accurate. I use a nylon brush to clean the firing pin assembly. Gets really dirty.
