You are mistaken about the game depth. Have to play to get it. It has less systems than Paradox gsmes, but they are all dynamic, intertwined, and can be min maxed. They also didn't really cover half of the deeper systems this game has.

Which is why I don't understand their tutorial. If the system is much more complex then the tutorial needs to touch on that. Like how at the end I didn't even know how to produce units. That means the tutorial is letting the users down. It's why I do blind play throughs like that though. To show raw reactions rather than a scripted one. We will see how the El Cid play through goes before making judgements.

@thegimpygamer I got you. Be sure to use regional decisions often to create "chaos on the board". Since El Cid mini-campaign is mainly concerned with combat, trading and building up your regions will be down on the priority list. Diplomacy and logistics prioritized there instead. I'm gonna give you just three tips: 1) check the region frontage beforehand. You want to match it entirely to avoid flanking, or don't attack if you can't get at least on par with the opponent if they don't cover the whole frontage too. Flanking squares can be occupied by cavalry only, so as the rule of the thumb you want to have minimum 4 of them for Open and 2 for Rough. Assault command frontage is 6 with no flanking squares 95% of the time. 2) when sieging defenders has a chance to damage your stacks. You feed from the aligned regions and forage value of the region you are staying in, so rotation might be required. Pulling out weakened forces and replacing them with fresh troops might be required since assault against lvl 2+ walls is risky if you dont have superior support troops. 3) while frontline force composition varies depending on your opponent, terrain and your economy strength, the one thing remains constant = you want the best ranged troops (highest ranged attack) for support value and fatigue on opponents. If you dont have light horses - pick bowmen, xbows or skirmishers to have 1 per frontage unit.

@thegimpygamer My bad. The assault info was based on the Empires. Now default is 8 and not 6. For various hills its 10 + 2 cav only squares. For plains you have 12 + 4 cav only squares. I assume its 6 for the mountains. Forests proly 8. Steppes, Deserts, Marshes, Arid Hills, Alpines and Naval tiles and their harsh weather versions haven't seen yet. And make sure to have at the very least 1 offense general for that extra dice. Assaults you do with only 2 offense generals. If your opponent doesn't cover the whole frontage you want just 2 units more than him since flanking attacks from non-flankijg squares are limited before Pursuit phase.
