One of the best parts is the appearance of Hollywood great Burt Lancaster (1913-1994) in one of his last roles as the elderly Moonlight Graham.

My favorite part is this comment is for the longest time I thought Burt Lancaster was Burt Reynolds and for years I would stare at him trying to figure out how much prosthetics were used to make him look that way. 😂😂😂

How great was his acting in the 1972 scene? All the outstanding traits the reporter and old timers had mentioned, he then easily but convincingly displayed with his soft expressions and open body language. What talent. RIP Burt.

This movie always gets me in the end. Like Ray, my father was a baseball player. He got to pitch in the minor leagues and was going to be brought up to the majors but he blew his shoulder out. He saw talent in me and really started training me. Like Ray, I grew tired of it. I was good but by high school my size topped out at 5'6. I saw the writing on the walls and saw everyone I was better then before become better than I was. We didn't have a falling out but I can remember his sadness when I told him I wasn't going to pursue it. But he understood. He died at only 52 when I was 20. And that last catch scene in this film...What I would give to have a final catch with my dad. Great reaction, ladies.

I played Baseball for 17 years, I'm 38, but I've been thinking about joining a 35 and older league. Just like Shoeless Joe Jackson said, "I'd play for nothing." In fact, I will pay $$ to play because I love the game so much. Baseball players truly have a unique romance, between them and the game, that is unexplainable.

I read about Shoeless Joe's case..It was guilt by association, strong evidence he didn't even know what his teammates had done, but they banned him for life anyway. And uniforms from then time looking as good as the ones you see would be worth thousands today..over 100,000 if they're autographed by any player from that era.27:23 You girls were brought to tears by one of the greats, Burt Lancaster, a fitting final role for him. What Moonlight Graham said about dreams is true. Imagine, trying to play professional baseball today, they give Visa's to people from other countries to play. So you are competing with the world for a position on 30 teams, out of 7 billion people. Even if you are good enough, you still will probably get overlooked, "Like a stranger passing by in a crowd."

Dearest Ellie, you’ve watched at least two baseball movies: this and ‘The Sandlot.’ As far as these two, not only was James Earl Jones (The voice of Darth Vader) in both of them but, do you remember the ‘ghost’ of Babe Ruth Sandlot? The same actor played the big teammate of Shoeless Joe; the one who cursed in front of the little girl. The one who talked to both the pitcher and Moonlight Graham, asking “Why’d you throw at the kid?” “He winked at me!” “Don’t wink, kid!”

When young Archie Graham is at bat, he is out but the run scores. In baseball, this is called a sacrifice. Just as it was a sacrifice for Doc Graham to step out of the field to save Karin.

how could you not know the kid was the doc. in the van he said his name. also when ray first meets him as an old man he actually went back to 1972, you can tell this by the cars, the re elect Nixon poster, and the fact that the theater is showing the godfather. The field was built on a real farm in dyersville, Iowa and has its own gift shop. i own one of the t-shirts they made. To celebrate the 25th anniversary in 2014, cast members, including Kevin Costner, returned to the movie site on Father's Day weekend, June 13 to 15. The weekend's festivities included a Q-and-A with cast members, a baseball tournament with the opening pitch thrown by costner, a screening of the movie and more. also during the summer they have Ghost Sundays on select evenings. During this event, the Ghost Players emerge from the corn and play ball. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and sunscreen.

This movie literally came true. There never any plans to keep the field, but people did just show up to play catch. There were attemptsvto close the field, but none ever took. To this day the farmouse and field still stands. Additionally, a regulation MLB field has been built on the property and hosts an annual game. (because of construction, the game will be played elsewhere this season).

31:15 I’d love to have the opportunity to play a game with my dad when he was younger. My dad had a brain tumor prior to me being born that he wasn’t supposed to survive but he did. Even though he survived he was permanently disabled and not able to do a lot of running around with us cause he was partially blind in both eyes on the left side. Then when I was in middle school he had another brain tumor but not as severe as the first. The next year I was in high school and he had a stroke. For the next 8yrs he kept having mini strokes and the year before he passed away my daughter was born and his speech was so bad that not many could understand him (I played interpreter cause I understood for some reason) but he and her had such great conversations. She would make noises looking at him while he was holding her and he would say something back. Some of it was him telling her stories when he was younger. I wish I had a camcorder back then or they had invented smart phones about 6 yrs earlier.

@@Stogie2112Yeah, his name escaped me due to my 64 year old brain. If his name was Leonardo GaGa Humperdinck, I would have remembered, but it's just James +Earl+Jones. So generic.

I wish i liked more movies. I always love re-watching them with gorgeous Bulgarian girls. I don't expect you to know much about baseball, so this ought to be fun. It's been around for over 150 years so it has a long history with the fans. So nice to witness your reaction.
