Field Notes - rufa Red Knot Field Work

Conservation Biologist Alan Kneidel and Shorebird Biologist Liana DiNunzio set off on their monthly sample collection and survey trip from Chatham on Cape Cod last week. They visited five sites, and at each site they collected sediment samples and, if Red Knots were present, also collected Red Knot fecal samples as part of their ongoing work looking at habitat use by Red Knots. While on the boat (and on the shore), they also surveyed for (you guessed it!): shorebirds. The sediment and fecal samples will be analyzed for eDNA by Alan and Liana’s partners at the University of Maine. In this video, Liana collects a sample and explains the work.
