Seems like the Ronin Euro series offering within the same price range handled much better in those aspects...Great Job, very well organized and a great flow

Thank you again for risking your well-being to test swords destructively for us. Two swords by the same maker both breaking off at the tang is very telling! Also, the mass distribution (profile and distal taper) can be improved even at this price point.

Thanks for "taking this bullet" for us. They reached out to me to review these but wanted me to buy them upfront. Glad I passed, but maybe the blade could be made into a shorter sword with a more robust tang?

Interesting timing here - Fidestisan just sent me one of these, and I have an unboxing video going up tomorrow. On the topic of the sword breaking, from the closeup you showed, I think the angle where the blade meets the tang is 90 degrees. Fidestisan also sent me another sword that comes disassembled, and that one has 90 degree angles there. That's definitely something Fidestisan could really use to address.

Seems so. I wonder how much off 90 degrees needs to happen for it to be secure.

Yep, Matt Easton have a video dedicated to this topic. Sharp edges on the tang shoulders are a huge stress risers, and should be rounded. If I recall, in one if the previous destructive tests one sword snapped exactly the same way because of the same 90 degree corners.

I dig your channel man! As a person who learned to melee band had become , oh - let's just say we mark a grade around, MAYBE almost "average" in skill set by age 26 - like - yeah... way way back in my younger years, back when I was still DMB to impersonate a fella and had a squad under my charge as a Sgt in a combat MOS via the US Army...y After my ETS, years of wrong headed, wrong hearted fashion lifestyles contributed to my having 2 strokes amidst a series of 7 TIAs, which landed me rtf in a downhill slide - I spent 7 years rolling around in a power wheelchair while sucking from an oxygen bottle - I not only forget EVERYTHING I had learned but for over a decade prevented me from ever even thinking about reclaiming any function, little lone any FORM to turn in to a "proficiency by style" it's good to watch someone who does not put on the airs of being a battle ready, ZORO of the modern era; just simply a fella who is doing honest reviews while he himself is learning the arts at his own pace, I assume? I could be wrong... maybe you aren't doing any behind the reviews "TRAINING" to take a positive role once the lead has stopped flying in this upcoming dystopia I fear for the USA - * lead will slow down at least as the munitions supplies begin to dwindle at least that's my hope So anyhow - yeah, chatty bish over here right? I did indeed arrive here to ask a question because somewhere I will arrive at some quirky point, I swear OK, so - I have relearned to walk, but I then also broke my back and my neck, which haven't resulted in paralysis, but do put me in a bit of a Jamie Lannister quandary where I have to learn and train my left hand to become useful and proficient again - these are my sole priority's on the TO DO B4 I croak, 5 gallon bucket list... I'm gonna tie this all up in a second, promise 😉 So I LOVE your reviews; you get right down to the CORE LEVEL of these tools by treating them harder than they'd probably ever see in a battle. I also really like that you seem to have a pretty good rapport with Swords of Northshire, a venue where I have come to enjoy conversations with an entity I'll refer to as H'H; - and, I have gone so far as to have purchased two blades from them now, a very unique selection - twice just in different forms. I am wondering with hope, that you'd consider doing a review on and then attempt to obtain a Swords of Northshire, Triple Influenced Hybrid they lovingly refer to as their Bastard Messer Katana... They have two versions, one in 1095 with a hardwood handle bare and one in a 1065 with a handle bound in leather, these are the two I purchased and H'H' has been kind enough to accommodate a few special additions I've requested on my own which are definitely not standard OME, warehouse example mold 'em, fold 'em, build a little model kinda kits. If you are on good enough terms with them that they would allow you to review - from box until death, kinda just like you did here... I'd love to see just how much action I can put into my own once the ZOMBIES start to dance and feast; as I fear Portland OR will be one of the main areas where the infestation begins. Lotsa words to beg the favor to see you go to town and destroy my favorite blade eh? Yeah... I can still use my mind it's this body that doesn't react that well to stimulation anymore or I'd be happy to post a review myself 😎 Thanks for putting up with the BS and reading ALL of this Thanx for all of the common man's reviews on blades made for the common man to afford and put to actual practical & beyond use. Kind regards SARA

Have you looked at Honshu's lineup of swords? Not exactly "historical" blades, but they seem to be well-constructed. I'd love to see you do some torture tests on those. Great content as always.

Thanks for looking into that. There are more than few euro-inspired swords by chinese makers out there (swords of northshire, ryansword etc.). Most of them in a lower price range and no info about them whatsoever... nice to see that change, well done!

MATT, would have liked if you took apart the Handle. These cheaper swords always have issues with the Handle amd Tang. Is where they cut costs. The company needs to learn what "Full Tang" means.. That isnt full tang.. Zombie Tools are Full Tang... . So on Shadaversity Channel, they were seeing Honchu blades having a consistent issue with breaking at handle or tang area..Will have to look at Shads channel again, but I dont think they took apart handle.. Need to know what's going on there.. Thinking may be skeletonized type tangs with Honchu.. Would be good to see the tang and handle construction on your reviews...

Good show. The nut and screw pommel are not appealing, especially when Swordier has access to the same accoutrements - and they're peened at the same price. You mentioned they had updated the construction and it would be cool if they offered you a followup sample.

@@alexanderren1097 ok champ, it's a $250 sword with a scabbard. Realistically it's a fukn bargain. It cuts reasonably well and held up quite well to extreme abusive testing. What the hell do you want for $250? You're the one not being realistic about it. He even replied that I may be right, implying that he knows he is a harsh critic. Regardless of if I'm new or not, how is that relevant to the issue?

I’ve watched Dragonball Z for 28 years, and one of the characters used a sword halfway between an arming sword, and a “broadsword.” What was funny is that it had a legit habaki above the guard, and it made me lol at the absolute lack of research that the Japanese creator of the series did including a sword like that in the show. Anywho, thank you for reviewing this and pushing it to its limit. I don’t think I would’ve bought this sword anyways, but at least if someone asked me about it, I can give them some solid reasoning based on your review!
