Fiberglass Door Panels Pods - Video Step 3 Molding CarAudioFabrication

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

CarAudioFabrication shows how to mold the shape of the door panel you will be making the door pods on. You will be using fiberglass, resin, chop mat, and other custom fabrication materials to create a molded surface that you can use as a basis to mount everything too. You could use these same techniques for creating an amp rack for an amplifier, or holding subwoofers or a single subwoofer. Be sure to check out the links to the other videos below!

I wish this site existed 15 years ago when I made my first pods. I've learned more in the last few hours than I've learned on my own in the last 20 years. Secret!

Mark, Thanks so much for posting all your videos! I have always wanted to do a custom audio system in my car and with the help of pretty much all your videos, I am able to start knocking them out one at a time! As a hint to others, wear a mask and make sure you are in a WELL VENTILATED area while working with the resin... I learned the hard way by spending 12 hours on the couch with a massive headache from not wearing a mask! Also, the "blue painters tape, OH YEAH!!" is very important because it keeps the resin from leaking through to your door panel. Just make sure there is a decent overlap on your tape seams... so this doesn't happen! Thanks again Mark! PS, your template videos are so useful! These template videos are so useful and really opened up my creativity!

If you use a lighter pigment, or no pigment. You can draw a sharpie line on the tape and the resin will transfer it to your hardened mold when you pull it out. Its a huge time saver.

On the volume its all about estimation, but shoot for larger than you need, after the pod is made you can put packing peanuts in the pod and then pour them into a box to get an idea on how large it is, then add pieces of wood inside the pod to reduce the volume. Since the panel is curved you may have to cut the panel. Hope this helps ~M

2nd question (posted in a box design video for the 1st question). Originally I had cut my door panel and mounted my speaker in the panel (terribad idea) and I now intend to do an angled door pod. My question is, should I fiberglass over the door panel to create a base to work from or look to replace the panel altogether for structural sake? If you look at my channel I have a video up from my first build where you can see the door panels as they are now

A secret from me if you want more strengths to your build you have to make sure that the fiberglass mat is saturated with resin! but at the same time you want as little resin to fiberglass ratio, I like to use the aluminum roller a lot when I build. I'm not an expert in making pods but I have build a fair square of boats.

This might be a dumb question, but what is the best way to do this if you don't have that nice contour where the old speaker was? Like if you have just a smooth door panel with different elevations. But want to build out from it.

#Secret : Mark, you should try putting on a layer of baby powder over your skin before cutting or grinding the fiberglass. It blocks the pores so the glass shards cant wedge themselves into them and itch profusely for the week. #protip

id like to do this on a Ford Focus 2008 my door panels have a funny shape and a pocket n cup holder at the bottom id like to utilize this space for my speakers 10" mid bass drivers and tweeters. since the door panel is not flat any sugestions that might help me ? Also the 10 midbass woofers ideally need to be in sealed enclosures to get the right type of response how go i calculate for this and make a sealed pod that is mountable ? Great videos bro
