I usually per-cert my fiber reels on my splicing table and exposing at least 4 feet of cable from the end of the reel. Then I will fusion splice all strands into a 12-strand pigtail per loose tube buffer and record the fluke otdr test results. My customer (Marathon Petroleum) requires pre-cert, post install and turn-up certification results for all cables installed in their close out package. Its tedious work but it is very consistent and makes you a more efficient tech. Keep up the good work.

Nice right on thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it. Yea I have a had some clients require the reels to be tested before and after install but has faded out a bit now they are only requiring after install test results

I'm always surprised by how roughly you handle the individual fibers, like when preparing to cleave you had the metal mount dangling off the end. I was under the impression that the original fiber consisted of delicate strands of glass, Is todays fiber a more rugged polymer that can handle more abuse? Or do you just have the "nak" when it comes to working with the stuff?

Haha yes I am very comfortable with the fibers they are very delicate and can break pretty easy I am just used to working with them on the daily and have a nak for it. Don’t get me wrong I have broken fibers in the past but after dealing with it on the daily for 10+ years I’m super comfortable with working on the fibers in any scenario

The fiber I’m running here in south Texas must be cheap stuff. Absolutely no armor on most of it. 96 ct fiber is maybe 1/4 inch. Even the 432 it’s micro fiber binder less. Cracks so easy

Yea all depends on the project for the most part out here it’s always armoured unless it’s inside wiring. Thanks for watching and subscribing

Can you just read the sheath footages? Also, I will not buy those pelican case style launch boxes anymore because of how easy it is to pinch the fiber. I buy the “reels” now like FiberXP and similar. Comes with a protective clamshell pouch.

Yes you can just read the meterage but some customers want the real pre tested before installing to insure there is no manufacturer defects. Yea I feel you there have to be extra careful when putting these ones away I have multiple the real ones and the pelican case ones. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it
