    Yeah, the legendary 'before after' problem with a forgotton heat shrink splice protector. That's one of the reasons why we are using crimp protectors in Germany. These are 'v' shaped metal sheets which get folded around the splice. The inner side of these sheets contains some kind of glue which builds a soft coating around the splice.

    Very nice video :) I see you are testing with 1550nm which we do here so rarely :) I am in Bulgaria and here nobody uses ribbon type optic cables even more at that count. Perhaps the cases in which cables over 96 fibers are used are also rare and are mostly done when you need to leave a data center or something similar. Then cables with 144 or 288 fibers are used :) I had thoughts about buying ribbon splicer few times because it looks so easier when you ribbonize the fibers and then make 1/12 ot the total splices instead LOL Just my 2 cents.

Yea I love my ribbon machine it’s worth the investment plus you can splice any amount of fiber up to 12 so can still pump singles off if need be just change the splice chucks out and change the count and arc test and boom just like that it’s a single splicer 🙌

    My splice matrix excel is available on the patreon. For any splice losses I find in testing I just make a quick excel with 4 columns 1) count. 2) loss. 3) distance. 4) work location. That’s all the info I store when testing and finding losses within the network. Thanks for watching and subscribing I really appreciate it

    Would a VFL have shown those bad splices? What is you opinion of the cheap under $1000 spicers? We are pushing to run a bunch of fiber on our college campus, and I'm wondering if I could get them to have splice everything. Most of the work is underground in conduit, but the spliced from our comm company still comes out to a major cost.

    Great question. No VFl will not show you a bad splice VFL is used to find broken fibers and to confirm spare fiber continuity. When it comes to splicing and testing equipment the cheap equipment is a waste of money and time they do not work I have met a few techs that have tried the cheap equipment and it never functions properly. If you are just needing a splice machine for a short amount of time for a quick job. a great option is to just rent a splice machine and the test equipment there is a lot of rental companies out there and only about a $1000 to $1500 a month to rent a machine or OTDR🙌 thanks for watching and subscribing I really appreciate it

    @@fibersplicegod Once you have a distance to a bad splice a vfl can often help you locate the correct ribbon and sometimes even the bad splice. Most of the splices I have had to fix are not as neat and organized as the ones you build. Sending tone and using a live fiber detector is often bettor for finding the correct ribbon.

    Ahh. This is the old style of doing this. My market is pretty much entirely made up of 2x8 splitters that feed 1×4's. No giant lcp's.

    Nice yea I’ve built a lot of other networks that were all 2x8 and 1x4. This is just what this customer wanted for there network so it’s what they get 🤷🏻‍♂️. Thanks for watching and subscribing I appreciate it

    @@fibersplicegod Hey thanks for replying, always interested to the the nft side from a fiber techs view. I believe my company has one market left that is still done this way, as the story goes I believe they weren't happy with the amount of fiber they had to pull (with pre conectorized drops and all) so they contracted a company to make their own terminal the g5 and g5n, which holds up to 5 1x4's. We usually do 3 for 12 customers but leave some room in case part of the term goes dark we can split everyone over to different lines.
