Fiat 605C crawler tractor hillside slashing + delivery

Taking delivery (early 2020) of our Fiat 605C crawler tractor/agricultural dozer, year approximately 1980 or so, 65hp rated tractor, with a 3.5 litre 4 cylinder naturally aspirated diesel engine, with 6 forward speeds and 2 reverse speeds. Always starts up within a second of cranking, even when cold and no glowing, awesome tractor. Filmed in Victoria, Australia
When slashing up and down hills, 1st gear was selected, the lowest, slowest and most powerful gear and revs around about 1000rpm, tractor is limited to around 2200rpm.
These crawlers are rare in having a 3 point linkage and PTO output (only 540rpm), majority of dozers around have just a drawbar, these are very handy for use in hilly terrains, as shown when slashing the hills. These are used extensively in Italy and other countries in hillside vineyards, wheeled tractors are very dangerous to use there, while the tracks keep centre of gravity low and offer great control up and down hills, sideways may be a little sketchy but doable, wouldn’t try though.

There is one fitted, it's underneath the yellow cover on the slasher. Would never run a slasher without one

This is great to see for me. The property I have purchased up in Qld is very steep in places and I don’t have the nerve to go there with my wheeled tractor and slasher. I have been thinking of something like this. I’ve measured some parts to be 45 degrees angle. Do you think that’s still doable for a machine like this ? Thanks 🙏

it should be okay, only if you go straight up or down, not on the side at all. never try something like this on a wheeled tractor, so many opportunities to lose control, while the crawler spreads its weight across the tracks and has a lower centre of gravity. at that angle i’d be possibly worry about oil starvation

@@jasonyannuccelli2499 Haha yep, they are great, we've got about 20 damara sheep, bit wet for them down here in the otways but they do alright, keep the grass down year round, especially in the spots we can't get to on the tractor

I have a fiat 451C and a 4wd wheeled tractor in very steep country in Qld. You can still get yourself in a lot of trouble on the little crawler. Although low and heavy, it is quite narrow and short compared to a standard utility tractor with wide-set wheels. Unplanned ski-ing sideways down muddy slopes on steel tracks full of greasy clay is no fun. Backing up and driving down very steep hills works in small doses but is bad for the engine in terms of fuel and oil starvation.
