I had the 2000 Toyota RAV4 (for 19 years!) and it was a great and reliable car, and when the FIAT500 came to the US, I became obsessed. Every time I saw a FIAT500, I was like a distracted dog that sees a squirrel. But, I couldn't justify buying a car while I had my very reliable Toyota. Well, the universe intervened in the way of a tow truck smashing into me (no physical injuries to myself!) and totaled my beloved RAV4 (the older model before they got too ridiculously big). I got a decent amount from their insurance company and started looking for a used vehicle that I could afford. I kept looking at FIATs, but I also looked at practical cars, like other Toyotas, etc. Finally, my brother reminded me how much I loved the FIAT500 and so I made up my mind and found the FIATlove of my life in a used 2014 500 Sport in the verde azzurro in 2019. It had about 50k miles and so clean. Since then, I've gotten new tires, rotors, and tinted windows and now have more than 100k miles on it. I have driven it from California up to Oregon several times, out to Las Vegas and Joshua Tree, and so many road trips around California (I live in the SF Bay Area) and it is such a fun car to drive! Zippy! I take it in for regular check ups and oil changes, and it has done very well. I love my FIAT500 so much so that I fall in love with it every time I see it. It's true, the media console is so outdated and the buttons have faded, and the body paint does chip off easily. Since I park in the street, my back bumper has gotten a lot of scratches, which I will have to repair at some point, and the front got a small crack from a careless driver backing into it (city living, parking in-between larger vehicles that don't see your little FIAT is always a risk for some bumper scrapes). I've had it for 3 years now and so far just the above replacements, knock knock on wood. ...meep meep. Thanks for this video!

I had an Abarth 500 for a while. They are ok but there are better hot hatches. I never found the seats or driving position very good and the controls are a bit sloppy. It also went through a lot of parts and broke down twice in a year.

I too was always in love with the Fiat 500, and I also drove a Toyota Prius that I absolutely loved. I work at a Chrysler dealership and one day I spotted a 500 Sport on the lot, in white, which was what I had wanted. I hesitated because of all the negative things I heard about them, but I took it for a drive and that was it! It's a 2015 and had 41,000 miles on it, one owner, sunroof, and heated seats for $10,000. I bought it and I am so in love with this little spitfire! By the way her name is FIFI 😍

Got to drive a 500 as a loaner from a garage, fell in love with it, it’s so fun and quirky to drive. Legitimately considering one.

I've got the 0.9 Twin Air Turbo 85CV two-cylinder, perfect mix of efficiency (drive in eco-mode) and performance (normal-mode) with a nice old style 500 sound from the exhaust. Overall fun and very economical.

That’s how we fell in love with it. Just came back from two weeks I. Scotland and drove the new dolce vita . Can’t get enough. So came home and found a 2013 500 pistachio colored lol. Gas mileage is great and to be 10 yrs old it’s doing great. Am having bit trouble with the follow home lights ugh

I have a 2015 entry level 500 with 160,000 km and have had no serious issues. On average it has cost me about $800.00 USD a year to repair and maintain. after 6 years i still get a smile when I walk over to it in the morning. It literally handles like an old school sports car with very fast acceleration to move in, out and around other vehicles in city traffic. It is indeed fun to drive and that novelty Never wears off. I am now 75 and retired on a tiny pension. If I was younger and working I would buy another one.

Accurate review. I got one in 2014 for city and relatively short highway driving. Never had a mechanical problem (has pseudo automatic trans. ) and the fit and finish has held up very well. Lots of fun to drive, especially on windy mountain roads and love the shape of the thing. Not a car if you want to go fast - except Abarth models - or have kids or use for long distance driving. My dealer’s service department is very good.

My wife bought one last year and I followed suit 4 months later as I absolutely fell in love with the car. Got rid of my big Trailblazer and now with fuel prices so high, I am very thankful the 500 saved the day

Your car is made in Mexico. The one that is reviewed in a video is built in Poland. Mexican and Polish versions are quite a bit different. I have a mexican version with automatic gearbox too and I think mexican version is a lot better than polish version

I've had a few issues with my Abarth which will probably affect all of them. It's on 109k miles. Crumbling pipes in the engine bay (running close to heatshields so get cooked eventually). There are a number of weak suspension parts and those go, as well as rear bearings. The gear selector bush will break as well, causing a breakdown unless you replace it for a better one. The Earth strap will rust away and the car won't start. I live in the UK so mine is made in Italy by Fiat themselves.

Canada 2013 Lounge 5 speed, sunroof, leather interior, metallic red paint, 100,000 km The purchase experience was the worst I ever experienced so I should have taken the hint and bought another Jetta. Now I am a happy Nissan driver. 1)Leather interior stood up well except armrest 2)On a trip the shifter only reliably engaged 3rd and 4th gear, mechanic in Sarasota fixed for about $200 using generic bushing kit the official Fiat bushings were on back order with a unknown availability time 3) door handles broke twice on drivers side once on passenger door, once fixed under warranty second time at my expense 4)Brakes where done twice, dealer charged over $1,000 to do all four, parts for brakes done by me $250 and it was pretty straight forward think the dealer mark up was ridiculous 5) all 4 wheel bearings had to be replaced 6) catalytic converter rusted off at 100,000 km 7) the alternator went south at 100,000 km I am sure I missed a few, like the electric hatch release not working. On the positive side I enjoyed driving it and it never actually left me stranded, although when the shift bushings went it was close we where on vacation from Ontario, had spent New Years in New Orleans and where on our way to Sarasota when half way there at a gas stop it no longer shifted properly. I had visions of being ripped off by a mechanic near the Interstate so I drove the rest of the way to Sarasota in 4th gear abusing the clutch to start up in third gear. Found an honest shop in Sarasota and made it home without issue. I still have the car but it would cost more than the cars value to make it road worthy so right now it is just an ornament.

Had a 500c for 10 years No problems so far.

My daughter has 500e for five years now and has no issues, I bought a used 500 pop model 2017 four months ago and it runs great I love it.

Bought new in 2013 lounge.. Now it has 211500 miles. 0 engine issues 0 tranny issues. Still runs strong Paints still look new… Problems 1. Armrest it broked 2. Door handle broked one time 3. Head light bulbs, replace evey year. Change my oil every 7K with mobile 1. Tranny fluid chaged 1 time at 120K Changed air filter same time as oil service. All Oil service was done by me. Used oem filters.

I have a 2012 Fiat 500c Pop with over 205,000 miles on it (I'm in the US, so miles). I have loved my car since day one. I've had a couple repairs along the way, but what car with 205k miles hasn't? There hasn't been anything outrageous. I have had issues with aftermarket alternators, but I got the lifetime warranty on the first one, so when they failed it was fixed quickly and free. I can confirm that the door handles had to be replaced once, after a mechanic manhandled it and ripped one all the way off and one halfway... obviously I didn't pay for that repair, since I brought it in with functioning door handles and I've never had an issue with them. My car has been kept outside in the Chicago area (lots of snow) for most of the time I've owned it. I drive about 100 miles per day and this has been a fun, reliable, extremely fuel efficient car. We have road tripped around the country and it handled mountains like a champ. The only thing I would ever consider replacing it with is an electric vehicle.

I owned a 2012 Fiat 500 for 4 years with no issues whatsoever. Fantastic, fun little city car with awesome looks and great to daily drive around town.

I'm in the US, bought a 2014 Fiat 500 Pop 8 years ago, and have had no issues, including the ones you've mentioned. It still looks new. I did replace all 4 tires after 7 years & 35,000 miles. I get lots of looks and compliments on it. I LOVE IT!!

Being a mot tester In the UK , they suffer from rear axle corroding at the coil spring seat and in some cases the spring falls out. Also rear shock absorbers top bushes wear out and front suspension arm bushes wear out and the arms end up sitting on the sub frame causing a knock .

I love my 2013 Fiat 500. I bought it for $8k in 2021 with 85k Kms. It has a full service history. I’ve put another 12k kms on the clock. Long road trips - a pleasure! Loads of room inside for a single person getaway. I can pack my camping gear and mountain bike in the back. Can’t find a roof rack for it! Suspension is needing attention, so pot holes scare me. But this adds to the fun of driving it. I live a 2 hour drive from the beach, with a fuel cost of $10 to get there. This car is awesome!! ( just wish I could put a rack on it for a bike, kayak or surfboard).

If you fit a tow-bar you can use a tow ball bike rack. Expensive way but safe, or you could tow small trailer with the kayaks.

I have a 2012 500c Pop. No issues real mechanical issues so far. There are no squeaks or rattles. I live in Anchorage Alaska and in the winter this car handles the icy roads well if the roads are PLOWED. The ground clearance is 4.1". Also I took the back seat out and installed a flat kit that matches the carpeting and interior flawlessly. It looks like I bought a 2-seater with a cavernous trunk. I love the car.

My Fiat is eight years old and it is with 1.2 8 valve engine and has 182740 km driven on a clock and works perfectly ... it has been changed so far: all brakes (both drums and discs), crankshaft sensor, all four shock absorbers and front springs, whole exhaust, filling hose ... every year oil and all filters service and every other big service ... i am satisfied! 🇮🇹🚗💨🇮🇹 Polish Fiat factory is one of the best in Fiat system

Whenever I saw these little cars when they first came out I always wanted one and now I own one I bought a 2013 Fiat 500 sport I paid $1,200 for it but it needed some work when I got it I only had 120,000 km. And I've been driving it ever since for the past 2 years I love this little beast.

For me I only had 1 real, major, issue and that is the BHP. It's incredibly frustrating how slow it pulls out of junction's. I had mine for 7 years and it was generally fine, cheap to run, cheaper to insure but would I buy another one even though it was fairly reliable? Absolutely not. Only because of the pull power is dreadful. I also had a few issues with the body work and the door handle dropping off but that was only little things that were easy to fix

I've done 1,000 mile road trips, races, track days and autoX with hard back road miles in my 2012 abarth over 6 years. Repairs and maintenance totals about 5k. Still in love with it

My wife wanted one. So I took a chance on a 998k km leather trim, mint green, color display odometer, just a notch down from the one with an iPad type display. We have had it for under a year and it is still going without any issues at all. There's a slight oil leak under the air intake, but nothing serious. No rattles at all. Firm-ish ride. I had to change a daylight light and I found it could have been better designed. You need to have Houdini hands for that one. As cool as this car is, they didn't think about where to place a smart phone. You can't Bluetooth music to it and there's no storage space around the front seats. Had I realized this up front. I think I would have bought it anyway. It is a dream town car and short trips motorway cruiser. Commuting type trips. Big enough to hold a weekly shopping for a family of 4 I reckon. When she lets me drive it, if I take my driver and hybrid woods out of the bag, I can also place a shoulder golf bag in the boot.

In 2016 I bought my 2015 Fiat 500 POP it was new used & it is still running like a champ! It does have minor paint chips & scratches on it & the seatbelt is a lil bit awkward the way it’s positioned a lil too far behind you but I’m so used to it now it doesn’t bother me. The inside still looks amazing. I get compliments on it quite often even still to this day. I absolutely love love love my little Fiat it is so adorable! It’s paid off & it’s mine & I plan on keeping it forever! ❤

Interesting Vlog, thanks, however I disagree on one point. I recently finished a 3500mi/5600km round trip from Las Vegas to Chicago. I drove each way in 30 hours. The terrain included desert, mountains and plains and included a snow storm entering Denver, Co. I thoroughly enjoyed my drive and found my 500c drove quite well and was comfortable on the long hauls....Love my 500c.

I have had one for 10 years and apart from servicing and wipers, I have only had to replace a door handle. Noisy as hell to drive and very basic interior. But everybody loves it and it is very practical. I use it all round town because it is so easy to park and the squre boot with the seats folded down means I can carry an amazing amount of stuff. Bought a washing drier and had to go home in my A5 without it because it wouldn't fit. No problem for the 500 it went in the boot and I was able to close the hatch. 🙂

I have had my Fiat 500 since 2008. it has 147,000 UK miles on it and only now am I starting to pay out for repairs. The book says 61mpg but I have regularly been getting 71mpg. It is a great little car that, if you set the driving position up correctly, you can drive for 6 hours straight without any problems. I know, I used to drive the length of England every weekend for a while ( hence the high milage).

I have a 2009 Abarth on 110k miles and there is always something wrong with it. Currently it leaks petrol from the breather pipe when full. In the last few months I've replace the springs, front droplinks, rear bushes and shocks, rear bearings, a split intake pipe. Also had to have an AC leak fixed.

I just bought a 500c GQ edition.. and after the second day I am in love! Great video, I learned alot. It goes without saying that when you buy a car, no matter which brand, there will be repairs needed to keep it running ;)

The trick is buying a non turbo model. Yeah, it’ll be slower but they’re pretty damn reliable. Also, if you have the automatic, buy the AutoFlash from 500 Madness. It’ll completely transform the character of your car. Worth every penny. It may be a cliche but it’s 100% true: it’s more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. These things absolutely rail around corners. I love mine.

I truly enjoy your videos. Very informative, and great energy. Well done. I just love the 500s. Particularly the Abarths.

I've had my Abarth 500 since 2012. In that time I've made a few mods and driven the crap out of it. The only time I ever had any trouble with it was when I let the dealership service replace the spark plugs as part of a scheduled inspection and they put in the wrong plugs, resulting in a stuttering under high acceleration. I replaced with the correct plugs and also replaced the igniters with ones from an Alpha 4C. Ever since I've done my own inspection and wear replacement, typical stuff like the drive shaft boots, gas vent canister, brakes. For the money an Abarth provides a lot of fun, I have zero regrets in getting that car.

My son's Vice Principal had one of these. I was speaking to him at an end of your school concert and he had just picked up anew Mazda CX-5..his previous car was a FIAT 500. It was involved in a minor accident and had the car repaired, a couple of weeks later the transmission failed (car was very low mileage) He was a conservative driver and there were no signs prior to the collision. It was thought that the force of the collision had impacted the transmission leading it to fail.

I’ve had my black 2015 pop (manual) and white 2018 pop (automatic) since they were new. No issues. The 2015 was my vehicle during two of my moves. I attached a hitch and pulled my entire household in a U-haul trailer across the Appalachians in the snow. The washing jets do clog up, but I live in a very rural area and it was easily fixed. The 2018 entertainment system is definitely nicer. I had my child in the back for the longest time. She’s big enough for the front seat now. My back seat is essentially my larger item storage now where I can still reach things from the front.

Mum owned a white 2014 500S with the 5-speed semi automatic with the 1.4 litre FIRE (an oxymoron) engine as the engine was quite a slug off the line,not helped by the below average gearbox.Mum ended up selling it last year. Having said that,there were no issues with the 500S.And whenever I drove it,it was great fun to drive. Because of the delayed gear changes,especially from 1st to 2nd,the fuel economy around town was above average for this segment at around 9L/100km.And I would recommend keeping the driving of the 500 to the city as at highway speeds,the engine is noisy at 3000rpm.Yes,I agree that some of the switchgear is a bit flimsy,but at the price point in the teens,I was expecting this. I also agree that the 5-speed manual is the way to go and is much more fun than the ‘dualogic’ ( NO logic) gearbox.But,if you definitely want the 5-speed semi auto,then I recommend driving in sports mode as the 1st to 2nd gear change is much more smooth and with more direct steering feel. There are so many other car makes that have more refined and better built models,but one is buying a FIAT 500 for its unique looks and head turning cachè,and not for its refinement.

First 500 I bought new never had a problem, second one was a year old 500c and I love it. 8 years as a second family car loved by all the family.

Hello from Japan. I have a Fiat 500C for 7years. I would like to share some of the things about this car. I had no major issued with this Italian car, as opposed to many people expected , lots of my American buddies call Fiat500 either JLO car or LEMON. However, there are 4 things you need to KNOW abut this Italian beauty. 1. Engine oil must be changed every5,000Km. 2. Timing belt and Frontal brake disk roater pad on wheel must be replaced with new ones every 50,000Km. 3. You need to have a good mechanic or garage who know about Italian cars, and get a car inspected every year. 4. And finally this is the most PAIN IN THE ASS part, If you have a so called Dual Logic Gear version of Fiat 500…. In Japan for some reason, Fiat dealers only sell Dual Logic Gear System in which you can drive on either stick or auto mode, of Fiat 500…. This gear need lots of care such as gear oil must be changed and required to be calibrated every 20,000Km. And DLG system and clutch needed to be replaced with new ones at around 120,000Km!!! That usually costs around over $3,000!!! Hey, after all, this car is all about style and this lovely retro look, For that reason I believe people fall in love with this Italian beauty!! I live in Tokyo and this tiny angel can go smoothly in any part of the city sooo easily with style!! I love this Fiat 500!! Peace and Love from Japan!

I mean I know it´s not really the same car, but my Abarth has actually been very reliable and every time I get to drive/see it I can´t help but smile. Emotion is just more important than perfection, at least to me.

In the US all the 500s got the same 1.4 the Abarth had, they just weren't turbo charged on the basic models. There was a separate turbo model with 130hp and some of the same suspension components as the Abarth, but they all had variations of the same engine here.

Loved the video. I bought one, a 2008 Passion Red Lounge JTD with 150,000km on it. Still awaiting delivery.

My second 500 Twin Air. First was 85 Hp and the second 105 hp. Both had done about 28000 miles when I got them and I ran the first to 55000 miles with very little trouble. They are great fun to drive, much quicker than you would expect and can reach well over 100mph!! Over here no road tax or congestion charge. All for about £5/6000 second hand. What more do you need? Great cars.

The worst thing about the design is the terrible lock which is embarassing to say the least. Both ours are 1.4 Sports models, always have the button in Sports mode. One is manual and goes like a rocket, the 6-speed manual change is the slickest change I have driven. The other is an auto convertible which is quirky to say the least. Dualogic gear change points are somewhat random, too soon changing up and premature changing down so I normaly use the paddle shift mode (later models only). The 5-speed Dualogic seems to take the edge off the performance and fun factor. Also the handling with 15" wheels does not fill me with confidence. Aftermarket 17" Abarth replica wheels turned it into a go-kart.Fuel economy around town is much thirstier than claimed and the fuel tank is very small. The 1.2 versions are gutless so don't go near a 1.2 auto. The Abarth versions are insane but much more expensive to buy and maintain. Not a cheap car to own but their styling, pep and quirkiness will leave you with a big grin every time you drive them :)

So the shitty cheap interior and the awful seats makes you grin?

I’ve had my black 2015 pop (manual) and white 2018 sport (automatic) since they were new. No issues. The 2015 was my vehicle during two of my moves. I attached a hitch and pulled my entire household in a U-haul trailer across the Appalachians in the snow. The washing jets do clog up, but I live in a very rural area so that was to be expected and it was easily fixed. The 2018 entertainment system is definitely nicer. I had my child in the back for the longest time. She’s big enough for the front seat now. My back seat is essentially my larger item storage now where I can still reach things from the front.

We had the Twinair Turbo version and it was a little corker - quick, nippy and comfy. No problems in the 3 years we had it and I often wish we'd kept it.

I am the owner of a Fiat 500, 1,2 L, from new, bought in 2012. I had a few minor repairs like door handle, passenger seat, rough engine, but my love for this model has been undiminished for 10 years. 500 is a phenomenally beautiful and timeless baby. ❤❤❤ Toyota? VW? I would never switch. Every day when I get in, I feel a great aesthetic pleasure. The best Italian design! Great city car.

I bought a 2013 500 Pop in 2016 with about 84000 km on the odometer for roughly $6000 US (plus taxes/fees). The reason for that purchase was that the engine needed rebuild/replacement in my old SUV and the cost was more than what I wanted to pay. This car was meant to be a placeholder and that breakdown was the whole reason this purchase happened. Honestly, I didn't expect much from it. It's cheap and tiny. When I took it out for a test drive, I was able to thrash it on the freeway without getting into any kind of trouble. I was laughing a lot of the time. The thing is not fast at all, but can be fun and sometimes hilarious to drive on the roads with real cars. It feels more like a go kart or a trike with a cab than it does a car that adult humans drive. I would not buy this to drive long distances on the highway, but it can do that if you ask it nicely. What I like about the car is that it's shamelessly cheap, but that doesn't mean it has to lack style or personality. It still has good looks and it's fun to drive. It is not feature packed, quiet, refined, or comfortable. In terms of reliability as a used car, I still have mine and the only problems have been windows. I've replaced both window regulators. Everything else works as it should and the A/C (you may call it air con?) is quite good. It's very easy to dart through traffic and park with it. The back seat is also usable if you don't have anyone in the front. I'm the metric equivalent of tall and can fit back there if a short person (or no person) is in the front. You could fit a car seat back there if you needed to. I find it most practical to drive around with the rear seats folded down. For one or two people, the car is surprisingly capable. I would recommend this if you're looking for a city car, commuter, daily driver, etc. or you're a student. If the specific car has a combination of low usage on the odometer and a low price and you can verify it's in good shape, then I think it's a great value if you have the right expectations. I would not buy one new or pay very much for one because that takes away the value proposition (cheap).

2012 wife loves it 38 mpg for 12 years over 110,000 miles now still running strong!!!

Pretty good and reliable as any other car. Avoid duologic and you'll be alright. Very fun to drive and 1.4 version is a good performer.

Do you mind if I ask why to avoid dualogic? I currently own a manual Fiat 500 but was looking at the dualogic thinking it would make commuting to and from work easier. Are dualogic known to be unreliable?

@@Tiddley Dual logic is an automated manual which uses a fairly complex actuator mechanism to change gears... when they go wrong they can be pricey to fix and a lot of techs just don't understand them

Not that reliable at high miliage though. I've had to replace loads of stuff on mine. Rear bearings, springs, shocks, numerous bushes, droplinks, broken hoses. Now I think the gearbox mount is going, it needs bushes in the control arms and the toe links need replacing. Also broke down twice within the same year (broken gear linkage bush, then a corroded earth strap). Mine is an Abarth 500 but most of the parts are the same.

I Have a used 2011 500, i totally agree with the paint fading, my car parks outside & the paint has faded on the roof. Another problem i've experienced is with the starter, 2nd time having my 500 die on me & refuse to start. I have had to replace a thermostat (due to my own negligence) which was actually an easy & reasonable job. My car was a gift & if i'm being honest i absolutely hated it until i started driving it. I learnt to love it & Now i don't want to get rid of it. It's sentimental & very unique in my country south africa. I can't wait to customise it. 😍

"The thermostat is about a $200 part, takes about an hour and a half labour to put it in so that's about a $450 all up" That's $166 per hour charge, literally twice as much as any other trade person charges and even more than the hourly fee of a lawyer or even doctors. No wonder people feel ripped-off by mechanics and good thing I learned how to read a repair manual and have been taking care of my vehicles for the past 20 years.

I was gifted a 2013 Fiat Abarth. It had 37k miles on it, and as part of the gift, I also got a 100k 5yr bumper to bumper warranty with Endurance from a family member. I have used it for about 5k miles now, and I enjoy driving it. I typically use it to pop downstate a few hours away and get my son from university for the weekend and the day to day stuff. My other cars are a Ford Flex, so much bigger, and my sons have Toyota Echo and a Scion xA. I love the bright red, the turbo is fun, and I enjoy stick shift. Could use a little more elbow room but overall I really like it and intend to keep it for the 100k miles!

I have a 2013 Pop manual and it has been a good car. Had trouble with the drivers side door handle, the drivers side window regulator and a gear shift linkage bushing had to be replaced. Still looks good. I like that you can run regular in it and it has averaged 36 mpg overall. On the road it does 42 or so.

I got to test drive a used 500 5-speed today and now im obsessed with finding one for a second vehicle just for bonking around in. Such a fun little car and very easy to operate, it was my first manual drive in almost 10 years and didn't stall once.

Bonking ! 😂 in the UK that means something far more suggestive! We have a 2013 1.2 sport 500 and love it .

For my 2012 Fiat 500C Pop, I don't have the squeaks and rattles in the dash or anywhere else in the car. I have had the car for 4 years and I have changed the plugs twice, I put 2 starters on it, both Remans. The 2nd was a warranty from the first one only lasted like 4 months. It only took an hour or so to swap out. I did put Drilled and Slotted breaks otors all the way around my car. But, the door handle just broke on mine and I just received the replacement a couple of days ago. When I got the car, the arm rest was broke. So, I did have to replace it a few months after I got the car. As far as everything goes. I'm super happy with mine. My work is only 12 miles away, so I only have to put gas in it about once a month. I have been getting anywhere from 38 to 42 mpg. Until I play in Sport Mode that is... The only 2 gripes about the car is, I hate the Bose car stereo that came in it. Sounds flat and I am waiting on parts to do a complete system in it. I also find that the wire in the trunk lid area. Mine is starting to look aged and I'm sure that will need addressed sooner than later.

I've driven it quite a few times, and it's unique, nimble and stylish, the only two things that bother me are the clutch pedal shape that's not very comfortable, depending on shoe size, and the air conditioning buttons and dials, that look like they came from a washing machine. Other than that, it's a wonderful little car!

I’m on my 3rd Fiat 500. They are an addiction. Living in a metro area I’ve become dependent on the size and maneuverability of such a small car. Having three different 500’s I can speak on some of the pro’s and con’s. 2012 Sport (Auto Trans) was one of the first models that came to the U.S.. I had no issues with the car other than a lack of performance. If the Air Conditioner was going it was the gutless wonder in traffic. Which led me to the 2015 Abarth (Auto Trans) The performance of the Abarth was hands down worth the trade. Fun to drive, loud exhaust, these can be very zippy and you better watch your speed. However this one was a bit of a headache. Body panels started coming loose, sunroof stopped working, oil leaks, this guy seemed to spend as much time in the shop as he did on the road. The washer fluid stopped working after an oil change and we figured out that the hose to the fluid reservoir had come disconnected. After losing my 2015 in a custody battle, I came across my 2017 Abarth 5-speed Manual trans. This was purchased previously owned with 2000 miles on it. As always buyer beware. The previous owner did a hack job of trying to modify the exhaust and the car was throwing O2 sensor codes. Replaced the exhaust back to the original factory exhaust and this little car has been a dream. As noted in the video the reach for the shifter from the steering wheel is great and ergonomic. I’m 5’7, 115lbs female and I feel like that this car was built around me. Cabin noise is pretty brutal. Abarth is so loud you can’t really hold a conversation inside the car. Oil changes are also a nightmare. Your service guy will hate you. If you do them yourself you will figure out why. Even with tiny girl hands, getting the oil filter out is a challenge. Burns oil! So check your levels regularly. I was told it was because these run hot and they burn oil faster. I don’t know if that’s true but you’ll need to check your oil every 300 miles or every time you fill up with fuel. You will burn the oil faster than your req’d maintenance so check it or you’ll blow your engine. These shake and rattle a lot, so check for disconnected hoses and tubes, connections, etc. they’re made pretty cheap and these things will come loose. Really an all around fun car to drive. I find the seat position very comfortable but I do feel like my long legs are a bit cramped after some time in traffic. Great for zipping around in the city. Parking, stopping speed, acceleration, maneuverability… just a great city car with a lot of style.

I love my 2010 fiat 500 sports model. Purchased with 60,000 km. Have had for 3years now. Wouldn’t drive any other car. 🚗🚗👍

I have this car 2012. I had one electrical issue and one plastic piece broke on the clutch pedal. That’s it over 10 years. My car is the best ever. !!!

I have had mine for 11 years and almost 100k mi. Have driven it cross country (US) three times. 46mpg on the highway. No mechanical problems. It puts a smile.on my face every time I walk up to it.

I got a 2013 red turbo.. of course manual.. I stopped riding my motorcycle for almost a month!! Every time i drive it i have a smile on me... Turbo is not soo hard as an Abarth, but comes with bigger brakes than the pop, also leather heater seats, auto clima control and fog lights.. Has everything!!! Love it! Maintenance starter... (same happened with my older pop... try to get a oem, china home made are bad.. ) oil changes and brakes.. All DYI quick projects... Starter takes 45 minutes to reinstall in you driveway!! AVOID AUTOMATIC VERSION!!!

Very accurate review :) I guess I’m one of the lucky ones .I’ve owned my 2010 500C 1.4 Manual for 11 yrs . One owner from new and serviced by the book by an independent mechanic. 164,500kms and still going strong💪 .I’ll own it till it dies. Then I’ll restore it. Its been good to me.

We have 2011, 2 cylinder twin air 900cc 500. We live in the central Tablelands nsw, have travelled to Qld and Vic in it. Ours has 16 inches rins with 45 series tyres. Ride it better than a yaris with same tyres. Best fuel economy 3.8 l per 100k. To Qld on New England Highway. Average is usually around 6l per 100k. In 120,000 we have replaced front brake pads and rotors, 2 spark coils (warranty). Loving it, practical yes I can carry lots of stuff when rear seats folded down. When we have rear passengers I show courtesy and move my seat forward to give comfort to rear passengers.

I got one of these 110000km for $2000. Needed a rear quarter panel and a timing belt and radio software reset. ($2200 all up) great car now. Literally 6.7L/100km in town and 5.3L/km On open road. That’s around 50MPG which is outstanding. My other car is a wrangler which sucks sooo much fuel so I love my little fiat. Love the economy and convenience. Not a masculine car. People do look when I get out of it😆

Hi. I bought a fiat 500 cabriolet in 2013 brand new for my daughter who just started driving . It now has 260oookms and it still drives like new and has no rattles. Yes the tailgate is a nightmare with the electronics cord getting damaged. I have done regular maintenance and im sure i will get over 500oookms on this engine. Its very light on petrol. Although i have the 1. 2 litre which is slow. I think it mainly designed for two and the rear for a kids. I think the body is muxh stronger then the mazda2 or the Toyota. Its a great fun car to drive. Maintenance is very important. And please if you live in south Africa in the kwa Zulu natal province then DO NOT BUT ONE BECAUSE THE SERVICE FROM THE AGENTS IS PATHETIC.

Great vid and good coverage of the pros/cons imo, love the honesty and no bullshit attitude of describing both… I’ll definitely recommend these kind of reviews to my customers in future for when they want to buy a new car. Im a mechanic and 1 of my customers have one of these. Unfortunately she bought it in bad shape and neglected with minimum routine service maintenance. After buying it for around £4000, it then cost a further £900 (mates rates) to replace a blown Dual Mass Flywheel, rear shocks, front brakes and wheel bearings. As he said in the video, Check the maintenance history and thoroughly check the car over! Cheaply built with cheap parts! Subscribed 👍

Hired one a few months ago did 1000 or so miles in the week and it did everything we needed so though heck why not and went and bought a 2014 one, so far my only complaint is the fly by wire throttle ends up over revving while I’m trying to pull away but I’ll no doubt get used to it.

@@kahlilcedeno ok thank you. You should probably consider having that done because of the miles you have but completely up to you. I've had already replaced the struts, shocks, alternator, coils, battery, tires and starter. I want to wait at least 1 more year about 10k miles to replace the timing belt since that might be expensive.

Got a 2013 diesel (95hp) manual fiat 500 after 2 owners with 130+ thousand km on it (40 are mine). The biggest (and only so far) failure was leaked shocks that I've just changed. About 500 us dollars for 4 with all supplementary stuff, work and setting geometry. And I must say it sees paving stone roads every day here in Prague. Everything else is just regular maintenance which is actually very cheap I'd say. Got a solid panoramic roof and love it - so much air, light and space feeling in the car. Very fun car which I got for around 5000 US dollars and I think I'll keep it forever as it makes perfect sense in European city. Did some journeys, like 3000km over Alps but this car is not made for that. Not a highway car for sure, maybe B-roads

I have a 2016 FIAT 500 Sport. The only issue after 90k miles are both door handles breaking. That is it. Super reliable.

I have a 2012 sport. If you have a 500 check the engine ground strap if you never did. Mine rotted out a few months ago. Just get a generic replacement, it's a super cheap easy fix.

Just purchased one. 2012 with under 40k miles. Seemed pretty pristine on the test drive but that was the 500 charm seducing me. Granted I’ve only had it a week now, but I love it. Yes, despite low mileage for the year, it does kind of have some fraying around the edges. It’s the convertible but this will not be driven in the rain or on the highway. It’s for me for my 3 mile commute so it takes all morning to wipe the smile off my face. I also justified it as warranted for my soon to start driving teenager so they can learn on a standard. I wouldn’t have bought this automatic, but now I’m glad I didn’t. But I’m already thinking about getting an Abarth. Nice, comprehensive review. Thanks. I’ll be on the lookout for the defects you mention.

@@trompeta79 Don't know how this would do in snow. If it's city like driving, it would be fine. I'm a little wary of highway miles. It's perfect for short commutes though.

I bought a Fiat 500c in 2012. It has a rear seal oil leak fixed under warranty. Up to date software updates done free. Now with 97,000 miles. I plan on keeping it so I had some things replace though it did not need it. Timing Belt, Water Pump, Serpentine Belt, and two adjusters for the belts. The front struts started to go recently so I had them replaced. I like this automobile.

Hello, I have a Sport 2012 with 82k miles. Im just wondering if I should change the Timing Belt, Water Pump, Serpentine Belt or wait a bit longer. Did you have that work done at the dealer?. Did you need the work or just did it because of the miles you have on the car?. So far I've done struts, shocks, alternator, battery, starter and tires. I love the car but its becoming a bit expensive now, thanks

@@eduardoduarte232 I changed the timing belt only because of recommended TIME as it is said the rubber deteriorates from time and will destroy the engine if it breaks. I asked for all the used parts. The old timing belt seems fine. But now I have peace of mind. The serpentine belt has to be removed to get to the timing belt so have that changed at the same time. And as the timing belt removed exposes the water pump this is also the best time. I STILL have a problem with driver's side suspension. Since this post I replaced the Alternator with a new not rebuilt Fiat NOS for my 2012 Convertible. I am now at mileage 105,700. The only place that has extensive Fiat 500 experience for me is the Alfa Romeo/Maserati dealer - Ouch!!! Some of their mechanics still wear Fiat patches. I just bought a set of Yokohama Avid Ascents 155/55-15 as a good deal on Amazon. I'll have them put on in the spring by a man with a small shop in the mountains to help him out. I still love this little unique automobile seldom seen on the road. It has class and expresses one's individuality. No god awful laptop on the dash like current automobiles. Not a suspect and unsatisfying CVT but a genuine transmission. If you have the "automatic" transmission as I do then what you really have is a stick shift that has a computer shifting it. An automatic stick shift made in Japan by Aisin Toyota. AND how often do you see a modern automobile with a METAL dashboard these days? I hope this helps. jrb

I know will be expensive. If you dont mind the question how much were you charged by the dealer to do all that work with parts? . I do love the car, so much fun to drive, and like you say is very unique. I have a 5 speed version with the sport button that gives you better handling and power in winding roads. Is excellent for parking specially since I live in Manhattan. I bought 4 Continental ContiProContact 195/45R16 from simple tire $127.80 each plus tax. They are not as wide as I wanted them but they are good tires. What's wrong with the suspension on the driver side? did you figure it out? thanks.

@@eduardoduarte232 It's a clunk when striking a pothole. A common problem if you google it. Prices to have repairs done vary. The only dealer I go to with really experienced Fiat mechanics is the former Fiat dealer that now sells Alpha Romero and Maserati near the movie studios. Expensive so I do the simple oil changes myself. I heard the Abarth versions traded in go to Europe where they are very popular. Jay Leno has one on KZread. A "200,000 mile Fiat 500" 1.2 L is also on KZread. Great little automobiles. I still love mine.

Just bought a 2012 Abarth with 45k miles on it, its so perfect and well kept that I have no doubt I can go another 10 years!

I had a Sport for 7 years, never had a problem with it. Loved it. So much fun to drive.

Back intime my then girlfriend and I were living on Sardinia , and she bought a convertible Fiat 500 (actually the 1.4 ) I drove round the interior and exterior of the island twice . I had an Alfa Romeo at the time (still do ) but that little Fiat fitted me in ( I'm 6ft 3 ) and drove beautifully

I once drove one from Sydney to Darwin. Well, I say drove... it got about 120 kms out of town before it blew up. I hitched the rest of the way.

Woohh what a score!! You had a good built 500!!! Mine the paint kept peeling off while driving!!! Not to mention horrible loud noises coming from everywhere as soon as I sat in…I guess mine was haunted too!!!

I have a North American 2015 Abarth. The only time I experienced any significant squeaks was when I was carrying my second set of tyres in the boot! 😁

I love my 2013 FIAT 500 c, however my issues have been driver side window regulator issues (on second replacement), Blu & Me just stopped working. Other than that zilch. Oh and one time, the clutch got stuck in the depressed position (5spd manual).

Great video and great channel. I'm missing my smart fortwo convertible too much, and I can't have it here in Australia. Fiat 500C was the strongest contender as a replacement. You might have just saved me from buying a lemon mate! I had an Alfa 156 once, and the problems you listed sound all too familiar. I would love a feature about Hybrids (Toyota Prius, including C and V, Camry), but maybe also some Japanese imports like Jazz Shuttle Hybrid. I'm looking for a practical and reliable car to rent out to people as a carnextdoor, and if that worked, it could fund me a convertible... But also, which one now that 500C is out???

I just sold my 1.2l Fiat 500 which I had for 5 years. Not one thing ever went wrong with it - it is a fantastic car, especially for city driving and is very economical.

We’ve had two .. Never let us down but beware the door handles . They fail but a replacement on eBay is £12 rather than the £90 the dealer charges . Also the sump can rust and need replacing . But that’s about it. Parts are not expensive as long as you keep away from Fiat service departments .

Had my 500c abarth for 4 years and it’s been a blast for a daily and great mpg for the current gas prices lol. Only downfall is the door handles are fragile over time and wheel bearings will need replaced sooner than any car I’ve owned.
