why does the pt need to split on the platforms?

Those beams and flare markers the tanks get need space. The AOE's that follow certain players aren't indicated besides their initial circle. Tanks being on separate platforms for those beams just makes it a bit easier to move around also. You don't want to get hit by them.

There's also a "tower" mechanic for each player, 4 per side to stand under.

diamond rain does damage based on how many people are on the platform
