for enhanced sacred soil, though the regen is listed as 100 potency for 15 seconds, the initial placement of sacred soil instantly heals 100 potency beside the regen effect, making it up to 600 potency per player. not even accounting the mitigation or other players regened, sacred soil is equal healing to lustrate.

I picked scholar as my healer for 2 reasons 1. I get a dps class equally leveled as a bonus, and vise versa. 2. Cute fairy 3. Short que privilege during msq required dungeons, but that's more a reason to just pick up a healer in general.

Number 3 is why we get bad healers

The thing is, you can turn party effects to be partially off and it will still show you healer bubbles and DPS puddles, so even if you hate seeing all of your party members attacks, there still should be no excuse to not get in the damn bubble.

I am a die hard fan of expedient because it’s just soooo fun to use... but I learned EXACTLY what you meant by expedient throwing off your ability to be precise in one of the level 90 dungeons… four people running straight into a landmine at the speed of sound is hilarious but also stressful when you’re the one who has to clean up afterwards.

Surprised you didn't mention using Adlo on both a tank and another party member before a pull, then deploying off the second one and onto the tank once the tank's shield is spent. You can get a lot of value that way, especially since you still get a shield on any other party members in range.

It's a good idea in theory. In practice, when doing wall to wall pulls, I found casting a second adlo for deploy to be more hassle than it's worth. Standing still while the tank is running ahead is detrimental since you want to be very close by to keep spaming art of war during the run up. Being close to the tank right from the start is worth much more than having one more adlo shield on them.

@@FYL0S Agree with this, in my opinion it's strictly worse to adlo yourself and deploy onto the tank than it is to just adlo the tank again. You have to cast the second adlo at some point either way, doing the deploy thing means the second shield's timer is ticking down all the while you're waiting to deploy it, and if you just cast adlo directly on the tank you could crit and get catalyze on the target you want the shield on. The deploy from yourself onto the tank thing is clever but really not as good, just keep it simple

@@etrosknight2254 Well... Since your tank probably isn't going to die if you do this... There's an easy fix. Just swiftcast the Adlo on yourself, perhaps using the autocrit, after you've already Adlo'd the tank. Tank picks up trash, you Deploy the shield on yourself, throw Excog, then can pretty comfortably focus on DPS for the remainder of the fight.

Another trick with dissipation is to use it on trash pulls when the pull is about to die to get your aetherflow charges up for the next pull.

Yep I do that all the time. I'll also try and plan our aetherflow use so I have one or two stacks left for an excog+sacred soil next pull if it's possible.

A couple of minor things about damage potencies in the 45-54 range. Art of War has the same potency as Ruin I (And more than Ruin II), so until you get broil the optimal single target DPS is actually standing on top of the enemy and using Art of War while you also auto-attack them. Even if you don't auto attack, assuming you can get close enough safely Art of War isn't ever a loss even on one target and will give you more freedom to move within its range. Admittedly less important since you can weave with Ruin I, and there is a risk of you building bad habits. Speaking of bad habits - if you don't do your job quest for Broil you still get the potency upgrade on Ruin II, which makes it strictly better than Ruin I. Art of War is higher still. So if you've outlevelled and can't get into HW you can use Art of War primarily/Ruin II if being close is an issue, assuming you're in unsynced overworld stuff. Just... don't keep doing that when you can go and do the quest, if you end up in any actual content with Ruin II/Art of War having higher potency and no Broil you're a terrible person.

I'm trying to have both WHM and SCH levelled, but SCH is more fun, at least in post ARR/early HW content. Having ogcd heals is nice, and being able to mitigate damage to rely less on it is even more so, compared to WHM having a bunch of GCD healing spells where the variation is... there, I guess.

Expedient is great for that one tank that greeds the living hell out of every mechanic with the speed bonus, when it also reduces damage for the party. This is why my SCH sees it as a damage spell, just not his damage. (I am not at all guilty of doing this and modifying my skill speed to get uptime on mechanics in different fights. Not at all)

As many looked down on Expedient, there are just so many mechanics that huge movement is required Like the latest EX Trial where the timer of 2 the red planet mechanic is tight. Making party move faster overall is a lot better than expecting everyone will pop the Sprint on their own (and maybe lessen the chance of using Resurrection)

This. Expecting everyone to remember to pop sprint for certain mechanics is a tall order when people are more concerned with maintaining their rotation. Being able to hold everyone's hands for movement heavy mechanics at the press of a button while also letting your tanks and melee dps save sprint for greed is great.

If it helps you make the timing of Terra 2 easier on you, I recommend getting dead center on the arena and looking top down from your camera to see where the spikes and planet aren't. It helps me never fail and I'm group 2 every time.

Quite the opposite for me, i switched back to SCH from SGE because i found SGE a little bit lacking, albeit better QoL. Expedience though, was a ‘brain off’ for me as it can trivialize some mechanics for the whole party without the need of sprint. It was so good..... too good....

Scholar was my first healer. It's very rewarding learning when to shield, not just healing through big damage but flat out preventing it feels nice. And it unlocks far before sage. (If you're a new player) I actually will recommend Scholar. Even compared to Sage it's play style is unique.

(Original) This is gonna be a tough one to learn. Never played Scholar, Other than the job quests, after it was already 90. Having it share a base class with summoner was a mistake

@@roxiane yeah, it takes a bit of time to get used to, and to remember at the tools you have(I forget about Protraction a lot) and to remember that your fairy will be constantly healing people. Once you get the hang of using Recitation + Excogitation for massive single target healing and Recitation + Adloquim + Deployment tactics to give the whole party big shields(optionally you can also use Fey Illumination and Protraction on the Adlo target first to take advantage of the healing increases and thus make the shield even bigger) you’ll be motivating ludicrous amounts of damage. Scholar’s shields can easily be much larger than Sage shields, but save shields have a built in priority to overwrite scholar shields. The reason is because Sage shields have a benefit of broken(Addersting) while Scholar shields do not. Also if you’re worried about throwing a shield on a Dark Knight and their TBN not breaking, the shield priority has TBN at the very top. It will always be consumed first. They did a good job making sure that shields that give a benefit when broken are consumed first, and with shorter duration shields(Dark Knight, Reaper with Arcane Crest, Samurai with Third Eye) are consumed first within that set of shields

I leveled my summoner to get scholar up for the role quests. Got by with the old guide, but maybe I'll actually play it a bit now 😆

I always use Dissipation off CD even if the team doesn't need the healing buff so I can spend it on Energy Drain for the extra damage. Such a good ability especially if your fairy abilities are on CD anyway.

First time playing a scholar in a dungeon I ended up getting 3 accommodations. Helped watching the ABC healers guide!

51:00 - All I can say is it made getting both Ex1 and Ex2 clears way easier. Tons of people got clipped by falling stars in the first and by chackrams in the second. Expedience was sometimes the difference between a clear and half the team getting cleaved. Sure, people COULD pop Sprint...but people didn't a lot. And in 6.0 when it was 20 seconds, that was Sprint speed for a VERY long time. I also used it in P1S to help people get to their positions faster in Four-fold. I get why they nerfed it, but I wish they wouldn't have. At its worst, Expedience is a Holos/Soil on the party that stacks with your and their other mitigations. I consider that useful in and of itself. The Sprint just makes it extra good in situations that require fast movement.

Free player here. I'm likely going to pick up SCH and run through ARR/HVN with it. Not sure where the memes come from. I read the lore on them and they're pretty interesting. The whole tactical Fire Emblem player character vibe. Wish me luck!

I have one braincell, can’t read and generally have anxiety about healer skills. These explanations are great for someone like me!

I love eating my faerie so i can do the following: recitation + protraction + adlo the tank + swiftcast + deployment tactics. Easily covers most of the damage done and barely need any healing so faerie being away isn't that big of a deal and I also get a refund of 3 aetherflows.

Scholar: the job I only have levelled because it comes free with Summoner.

A sch actually killed me with Expedient in P2S a while back lmao; we were in last coherence (+water dashes) I was stacking for the line attack at the center of the pad and I had to go south of the same path so it was just some steps… woo I’m sprinting now and I end up in the water lmao

I’m kinda stuck between this and astro but idk which one would be best to keep my tank alive but also buff my team

Had a lot of healer anxiety for a while, especially since I'm new to MMOs and almost never catch mechanics on the first try, and tend to crack under pressure; plus, a few bad experiences. Nothing is more disheartening than when you forget to summon your fairy in Aurum Vale, wipe the party and the party starts leaving because you suck so much at using the interface that you forget to hit enter, and just end up jumping around and hitting commands at random when you try to apologize in party chat. Now that I have the hang if things though, I love playing Scholar.

Thanks for this! My Summoner is coming along and Scholar levels are free... so I feel like I should learn to use it for more than the Faerie minion and schoolgirl glam.

As a SCH main I think expedient can be a godsend during prog in EX and Savage content. I'm thinking in particular of the double orange orb phase in Endwalkwer EX3. Expedient can really help dodge both where otherwise a hit is pretty much a one-shot.

This video is interesting in hindsight regarding Expedient. Everyone was dunking on it for being a glorified Sprint button. Then it ended up being considered so insanely good BECAUSE of the sprint, that it got patched to nerf it down to 10 seconds.

Oh!! There is an important note to add! I forget exactly when it was added, but you can now glamour Eos into Carby! You can have the far superior summon on the field, and he won’t disappear every 10 seconds to become an ugly primal

Question regarding Fey Illumination; is it worthwhile to use this followed immediately by Whispering Dawn to boost the passive regen for the party or is it just better to only use it for your own active healing?

Use it when you or your friend need to heal using spells or for the mitigation. Personally, i use it with Protraction to Reci-Adlo-Deployment Tactic for massive party shield.

I though AST is harder to understand, I tried every healer expect Sage and Scholar didn't suit me in gameplay.

Starting out playing MMOs with FFXIV recently, and chose SCH because I can't stand the conjurer lore. Your guides have been extremely helpful! I'm genuinely curious why you hate this job so much though -- it's not perfect, and maybe it's just because I'm so early in the game that I haven't even left true ARR content or played AST or Sage?

One thing worth mentioning is that art of war is actually stronger than ruin I even for single target for the same mp cost and is instant. So until you get broil, art of war is actually your main dps button.

Gee cant decide on a healer i like... I feel sage is too proactive for my taste, hard to go in blind on contents (but easy for spicy pulls) and punishing when you dont plan ahead (because you didnt know), whm is kinda clunky with its lack of ogcds and movements, ast is just too tough for me (i still cant grasp it) + same as whm with clunky aoe attacking and lack of movement (when not using lightspeed)... That leaves me with scholar, love how easily and smooth you can move with art of war while weaving in your ogcds as necessary and providing dps. I can think for a moment while i spam art of war on what to use next unlike the pure healers

I think you misunderstood how each of the healers plays, or at least Scholar. Art of War is absolutely not a movement tool for damage, that's Ruin II. And WHM has plenty of CDs with Assize, Tetra, and Asylum to name a few.

But this is at like lvl 70-80 content, I have yet to reach 90

With the Easter Event giving Tonberry glam I decided to unlock it on my Summoner main. God this seems worse shield healer than Sage.

Something of note: Dissipate and Fey illumination both only effect Spells. So only Physick Ado and Succor. You should never prioretize using those Abilities for the Healing increase. Edit Just saw that you mentioned it for dissipate. The one use for Dissipate and Fey outside of "Oh shit I need some Aetherflow stacks." I find ist that when a boss uses his ultimate attack is to use Fey Illum -> Dissipate -> Succor/Ado+Deploy -> wait for DMG -> Emergency Tactics + Succor You can use Recitation If you want to make a complete joke out of the dmg but I consider it too valuable of a resource to bunch in here, while the combo as is spends only resources you usually dont care about much during the fight.

However its worth to highlight imo that it has it uses when Partied with a WHM or in special circumstances where you want to use GCD Heals(because you cant deal dmg rn and dont want to waste resources on OGCDs)

The answer is no. SCH and SGE may both be barrier healers, but they fulfill different sub roles, such as SCH bringing crit boosts. SCH feels more like a traditional damage mitigation class while SGE fulfills the mitigation with some battle medic gameplay added in.

No Though SCH and SGE "GCD shield (emphasizing GCD)" overlap each other. There are other skills in toolkit work differently. As far as I try SGE, SGE quite struggles on mending Raid wide damage because there are only 1 kit of party heal without either using Addersgall or long cooldown (and there will be moment when you have no Addersgall left). Playing SGE needs to be more proactive than SCH because most of the toolkit are either shield or regen especially Haima and Panhaima I personally ranked the proactive healers as SGE > AST > SCH > WHM SCH, on the other hand, is somewhere between proactive and reactive. There are some skill that SCH need to be proactive, such as putting up shields (and their combo like Recitation + Deployment Tactic) or Sacred Soil before the Raid wide occurs, or Excog where preparing when a huge damage will take place. But also the reactive side like Whispering Dawn, Fay Union, Sacred Soil itself after level 78, or even Excog can be used reactively. SCH also provide some extra party buff like Chain Stratagem and Expedient (as Expedient was looked down once the Job Action trailer released, people currently praise the party wide enhanced movement speed to the point that it got nerf). Not to mention that PLD will love SCH so much as Divine Veil need a healing spell to trigger, and fairy Embrace is considered as a spell (while later on healers mostly use OGCD heals which are ability, not spell).

How to play scholar very easily Step 1 summon eos Step 2 dps baby! The party has eos already for heals so you can just press whatever funny damage button floats your boat(which for me is the big slam aka art of war) /j

I just started with Scholar and just a Question: Isn't Recitation + Emergency Tactics + Succor (+ maybe Dissipation) the biggest pure Healing Output that you can do as Scholar in some specific situations where a fast, big AoE Heal would be needed? It seems stronger then using Adloquium in terms of pure AoE Potency, or am I seeing it wrong?

Well Adlo is single target anyway. But also you have other tools for AoE heals. No sense dumping two CDs and a GCD when you have oGCD heals and a co-healer. Dumping everything on a single action means you have nothing for the next major AoE heal.

Because you said Adlo and Excog are the only 2 Abilities really worthy using with Recitation. So sorry for bad explaination on my part I try to ask this way: Would using Succor + Recitation + Emergency Tactics a worthy alternative to Adlo + Recitation + Deployment Tactics, where Healing would be more important then Shielding in that specific situation? To me it just seems like 2 different solutions depending on the situation, but you disregarded the use of Succor + Recitation so I'm unsure if there is something wrong with the use of Succor in that way that I'm not seeing currently. And yeah, I know this is all talk about niche situations here, but I'm curious ^^

@@Itama22 Scholar is there for the shielding, not the healing. You'll be bringing a pure healer along in most cases and they handle the pure heals. And if you need to help with Pure healing, you have better options like Aetherflow. If there really is THAT big a need, sure. But its not ideal

I was taking that in my calculation and thought the Heal would be really big, but it's not the case unfortunately, so yeah I see the use of Succor with Emergency Tactics is not as good as I thought it could be ^^

I used to like Scholar, but now I am going to stick on a new character and stick with Monk for the entire story. :) Great guide, though.

Undercutting the line about this being a guide for players new to XIV or the MMO genre by putting it immediately after a joke only people who’ve already been playing for a while will understand is pretty funny.

The point is that it is a joke AND that one day you will eventually understand what was shown.

i know a lot of people say white mage is a better healer but i liked the nature abilities of scholar more 🔮🧙‍♀️❤️

The fact they nerfed the speed buff on Expedient already tells me that it's powerful. I know I got a TON of use of it in 6.0 during both Ex Trials since both have places where the speed is useful and party members that don't know they have a Sprint button. In theory, yeah, everyone should be able to pop Sprint, but the 6.0 iteration also had TWICE the duration of in-combat Sprint, which made Expedient better. On Dissipation - you talk like it boosts the healing of Lustrate (when you say something like "not including the extra healing"). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Dissipation works on Lustrate. It ONLY works on Physic, Adlo, and Succor since it only works on healing Spells. I'm not sure if Protraction works on Aetherflow abilities or not. I think it does (since it says healing actions, not healing spells) All I know is that I like WHM, I like SGE, and I like SCH (and I can't figure out AST and tend to get distracted during fights when I start playing Yu-gi-oh in the corner while people are dying and stuff), but SCH feels the most...comfy to me, I guess? SGE seems to be good, but is like an ocd healer that has to be in charge of things at all times or everything goes fubar. And something about its abilities just feel "cold" to me. Sterile. Maybe that's the intent, and I can't quite pinpoint what it is - is it the lasers? is it the cold blue of the icons? - but in some weird probably autistic/asbergers way that I can't explain and probably have an undiagnosed case of, it just FEELS cold and sterile somehow. WHM, on the other hand, is fun and easy to play, but I constantly find myself looking for a damage mitigation button when Temperance is on cooldown. But with SCH, the abilities mostly have warm green and orange color palates, I've been playing it and WHM since ARR, and it just FEELS comfy. I almost always have a heal up when I need one, I almost always have a mitigation up when I need one, and I have several panic buttons that MOSTLY all work. The only button I HATE is Dissipation. I hate it so much I removed it from my hotbars. I might re-add it, but...I still HATE that ability from when it was introduced (and DIDN'T resummon Eos!) and have never liked it because it breaks with SCH's entire toolkit, preventing the use of any Faerie abilities, preventing accumulation of Faerie Gauge, preventing use of Seraph, and it doesn't even buff Aetherflow abilities, instead buffing Adlo. It also thematically opposes the idea of Scholars working with their Faerie partner to heal their allies, so in a lore way, it's broken, too. But I've said since ShB that SCH is the most powerful healer, just...clunky. But once you understand that clunk, it's not bad at all. Some people miss the old DPS kit, though...I don't, but some people do. I never found Cleric Stance dancing "compelling gameplay" to begin with. And, as I say, when I play on WHM, while it's far easier and more streamlined, I find myself wanting SCH abilities that I don't have for mitigating things. Sacred Soil on a 30 second effective cooldown vs Asylum on a 90 second one that doesn't even have a mitigation component, for example. Not to mention Lillybell is awkward as all hells to use outside of Erik's quad chains and the CD is so long if you use it it's often not up again before the next "multi-hit-stack mechanic" that you would otherwise need it for. My biggest problem is that it has too many abilities so it's hard to fit them all on two controller cross-bars, and using a third bar set becomes...awkward. Not terrible - I had to do that with PLD in ShB when I played it - but just obnoxious. I like that WHM and SGE can fit, but SCH and AST sadly cannot. . But yeah, I love Expedient. Love SCH, too - other than Dissipation (it's odd to me that you sing the praises of Dissipation so much but are so down on Expedient when I feel exactly the opposite...) - and feel most at home on it. It take take some playing with to get to that level of comfort, and there's definitely some galaxy brain behind it, but it feels good when you get it right. Not to mention you get SMN for free, so when you need to go braindead... :D

I was hoping you'd say, "at level 70, we have sage. That's all. See you in the next expansion."

PLEASE PVP GUIDES AND ROTATIONS!

There are PVP guides out there now and it's not about rotations. PVP is all about the burst, Crowd Control, and positioning

@@WeskAlber Gotcha. I’ll look a bit more. It’s all new and I limited time to play so I honestly was looking for the ability break down videos that I can listen to while on the way to and from work.

scholar 1 to 90 ? easy just level a summoner to 90

It's always odd to watch one of your videos on a job you clearly actively dislike. You're a lot more harsh on some of its abilities than I think is warranted.

Other than Expedient I can't really agree. And Expedient would get the same treatment if it was on SGE because a movement speed buff is actively harmful in many contexts.
