What is FFXIV: Shadowbringers? Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers is the third expansion for Final Fantasy XIV. It was announced in November 2018, and was released on July 2, 2019. The expansion takes players to the First, one of thirteen reflections of the Source that is being consumed by a Flood of Light. The main region visited is known as Norvrandt, which is roughly analogous to the Source's Eorzea, and is the only region in the world that has not yet succumbed to the Flood of Light.

    I do still find it funny that Bard was originally just a Ranger, became a Bow Mage in Heavensward, became more like an actual Bard in Stormblood, and now has lost its support ranged DPS spot to Dancer. Dancer; which is ironically the more offense-based support of the two jobs in FF history.

    I freakin love this class. It's incredibly active and I hardly find myself in a situation where no procs occur. En Avant is super fun to use, too, letting you dash all over the place.. I was a DRK main ever since Heavensward and with the release of Shadowbringers, I took a leap and decided to main DNC. Really enjoyed it.I do think they kinda oversold the support aspects a bit. Yes, the support is there, but this class is firmly a DPS. My only gripe with it is that the dances feel a bit too similar to mudras in the execution of steps (although in a random order). That said, I'm not entirely sure what else they could've done to get that "feel" of a dancer... When you think about it, the concept alone is rather unorthodox.

  • @iBluairJgR

    I always worry that proc-based abilities won't activate enough but I haven't seen many people complaining about with DNC so as you say, there probably aren't many situations where no procs occur. As for the dancing being like mudras, you right. I'm not creative enough to be able to think of another way for them to do it though lol. Maybe dance in real life to apply dances in game?

  • @bryantm82004

    @bryantm82004

    I enjoy dances much more than mudra -- it's easy to screw up mudra, but dances grey out other actions making it a bit idiot proof. My issue with the class would be the procs. You have a 50% chance to proc your flourish --> 50% chance to proc a feather --> THEN ANOTHER 50% chance to proc Fan Dance III... That's three coin flips from beginning to end. It can be really frustrating hitting that 1-2 combo three or four times to get a flourish then fail to get a feather proc, just to have to start over again :/. In my opinion, Dancer's damage would be much more consistent if flourishes always produced feathers. That would also reduce RNG down to two coin flips instead of three. This is the same number of procs MCH had with their 1-> 2 -> 3 combo in Stormblood. So wonder why they thought it would be a good idea to bring it to Dancer after MCH was entirely scrapped.

  • @brighteagle-

    @brighteagle-

    @@bryantm82004 When you get flourish since everything procs at once you don't need to deal with the combo not procing enough. You can use it every minute and it allows you to get a bunch of fourfold feathers which you can use in between every weaponskill allowing for so much to do.It's possible to even have to do 3 fan dances in one gcd it's ridiculously fast paced. Technical step gives the entire party a damage buff and standard step gives you and your partner a damage buff. These damage buffs allow for a much higher collective party wide dps, but the personal dps of the dancer is low. Even with maximizing your dps and hitting all your procs, you will probably do less personal dps than other dps especially when they get your buff.

  • @bryantm82004

    @bryantm82004

    @@brighteagle- On the other end of the spectrum you can use Flourish and get 0 procs. Sometimes, I can go the full 180sec CD of Technical Step and only have 2 or 3 feathers. You can go entire AOE pulls without ever getting a single feather. Dancer's problem isn't lower personal DPS, it's inconsistent damage -- The highs are meh (but enough), but the lows are loooowwwwwww (and infuriating). It's a dice roll every time Dancer attacks and the Flourish CD does not even come close to making up for bad RNG. This is the same type of gameplay as MCH in Stormblood, people hated it, so it was completely overhauled for Shadowbringers. I love the concept of Dancer -- it has great utility and is visually stunning, but having to rely on three RNG procs to do damage feelsbadman.

  • @brighteagle-

    @brighteagle-

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@bryantm82004 Dancer is perfect for this kind of RNG requirements, because it has consistent damage buffs, It ends up being a lot more of a support dps. If it does get the procs then it's damage can get decently high, but with the damage buffs it gives it's effectively gaining a much higher dps depending on the rest of the team. A team with a Dancer that doesn't get any procs would still get higher dps than a team without a dancer simply because of its buffs. When it does proc then having a dancer shows why it will be a requirement in endgame content.

    DNC was the second class I started after the release of SHB. It’s not as dps as MCH, but the buffs it gives it honestly really great. 3 different attack buffs makes the whole team extremely strong. Curing Waltz is amazing after a stack attack. And Shield Samba is great for multiple raid wide AOES.

  • @brighteagle-
    @brighteagle-5 жыл бұрын

    two things he didn't talk about: Saber dance and fan dances being OGCD. Fan dances don't have very high potency but are used in between attacks, They are best used when you have technical step and devilment's buffs up while combined with flourish to use your most powerful weapon skills while rushing out fan dances in between GCD on normal skills, it's possible to use 3 fan dances: fan dance 1 - 3 - 1 if you get the proc and if you don't you can do two fan dance 1s. As for saber dance which I don't think he mentioned how the esprit gauge works at all. Standard step allows you and your team mate to generate esprit on a chance with every skill that successfully does damage, Technical step makes it so your entire party gets this buff as well allowing you to generate esprit incredibly fast. The esprit is then used on Saber dance, dancers most powerful weaponskill at 600 potency.

I'm personally still not all that interested in the job; but I'm now kind tempted to give BRD another go (stopped around lvl 40 in Stormblood) since a lot of points about the DNC's RNG were brought up. The change to Repertoire price is nice as well as a few other QoL stuff; but the lack of RNG now on MCH (I didn't really mind what little there was before Shadowbringers) has made me spoiled and it's still my second favorite DPS in the game.

    Rather than RDM, I'd compare it to old MCH, but how it should have been done with the procs being a sideways bonus path instead of the actual primary "combo". EDIT: Also, he says En Avant lets you dash forward, but just remember that if you're using a controller or the keyboard movement style that actually faces the way you're pressing (aka no backpedaling) then you can use it to dash in 8 directions. Also to be clear, Standard Step only buffs you and your dance partner, the way he worded it around 9:28 made it sound like both dances buff everyone.

    DNC single target DPS is lacking, which is to be expected as they regain some of that DPS through their support. I fully believe that single target needs a buff though, perhaps a DoT or something to help ease out the trough when RNG decides not to be your friend. As it stands, DNC does more DPS on their AoE rotation on TWO+ targets, as their single target is only 50 potency more per attack than their AoE counterparts. The class is a lot of fun, but coming out of a flourish with no procs feels really bad, and it happens enough to be noticible. I've come out of my 20s opener with >15k dps, and

    Dancer is really fun to play but I think the person describing it may have misinformed about how the dances work. When you do standard step, you give yourself and your dance partner a 5% damage buff for the 60 second duration and it DOES stack if someone has multiple dance partners. With technical step it gives everyone that same buff but for 20 seconds which stacks on top of standard step.

    I don't understand the whole idea of "support" DPS... kinda goes against the whole idea of what a DPS is meant to be. Being a DPS that is designed to do low damage for the sake of buffing others is not a good design for a DPS job imo. All DPS should be balanced as equally as possible and that in turn brings a level of competition that is fun but when you know that your damage is fundamentally hindered by design and the fact that SAM/BLM do 2-k more than you just because they are their job and you're just a DNC... all competition goes out the window . Not only that but if you want to play DPS and do high damage you are essentially funneled into those jobs just because they have a handicap just for being the job itself rather than the player skill. Also, imagine being a new player and unlocking DNC at some point and leveling it only to later realize you're really a Support class... time wasted. It's almost like they need a new role just called support(this is not healer) that is focused on buffing the party and maybe debuffing the enemies without a focus on high damage. TL;DR: A DPS job that is not meant to do high damage on par with other jobs should not be called DPS, it goes against what a DPS should be and brings no competition amongst DPS players.

  • @Zora147

    @Zora147

    @Senshi It has been dubbed support DPS by the community, as far the game is concerned there is: Melee DPS Ranged Physical DPS Ranged Magic DP A new player coming from a different MMO, say WoW where there is no such thing as support DPS, would pick a job that they think looks cool only to later possible find out they picked DNC and have the lowest damage by design and not skill cause they are "support" DPS all the while thinking they picked a pure DPS class and hoping that with enough skill they would be competitive. I got a friend that just started playing that is disappointed to find out the job he leveled, Ninja, has been historically doing low damage because they are considered "support".

    Zora147 I think in a sense that while it is support, it had a role other than just dealing damage. It is resource and bettering the team. It’s support but it’s like a rally class as well. It’s meant to help others with damage and feel rewarding in weaving in and out for those high fluid movements. Support DPS is unique and I think in time if stats really mattered then he would change class. If he didn’t change them it’s evident the class is still fun despite the lowered damage.

  • @iBluairJgR

    @iBluairJgR

    @Zora147 I've always been mildly annoyed that FFXIV's devs aren't willing to create a genuine support role so that role gets crammed onto ranged physical DPS for all the reasons you stated, though I do understand why they don't. The game would have to be restructured if they did. I don't think it hurts the game too much but you last point about new players being disappointed to find out that dancer leans more on supporting and buffs than individual damage could be frustrating.

    Dancer and most other ranged support classes intended to have lower dps because of how easy they play and how good their buff is. Higher dps like monk, summoner, samurai and blm needs lots of practices and knowledges to optimize their dps in savage raid.
