We all get our start from somewhere, and for the typical melee fighter in your roster that beginning is in the lowly Squire. Clearly designed to instruct the player as to the basic functions of battle the Squire's abilities are topical bandages for real skills that you will learn very soon from more advanced classes. Despite this there are some useful features to a Squire and we will try to find them today!
For this Job Focus we are looking at the Squire, their Equipment choices, their rudimentary Abilities, and touch on their Stats.
As always, we welcome your thoughts and feedback so please leave a comment on what you think about this episode, and what you would like to see covered in the next one!
Thank you for watching, and be well! 🙏

I'm always in for the FFT vids. But one thing I never see anyone say in your comments: Your videos look like the top notch type of production quality that comes from youtubers with 100s of thousands of subs. I don't see anyone mentioning that, but just wanted you to know the quality of your videos alone, is awesome.

I noticed that too! His video quality has improved a bit over the last few months, especially since he broke the 1k subscriber goal! The video feels a bit more captivating and engaging.

Forrest thank you man, that means a lot to hear! 🥲🙏 I am fortunate to have a background in video work in the gaming industry and am able to produce this content for a game we all love. It really is a passion project and seeing the positive feedback from folks like you Forrest is like a Curaga spell cast on me, rejuvenating and inspiring. 🥰 As long as there are passionate Tactics fans out there I'm going to keep making the best contributions I can to the community!

Haha you got it! He's actually a great unit with the changes you've made; definitely curious about them without dual wield Knives, as that was my favorite build for them. 👍

A note on rush if someone didn’t say it, does not activate reaction ability like counter.

Very cool detail, thanks for sharing VC! I had no idea. An underpowered but surefire way to get through skills like reflexes or Shirahidori. 💪

Throw stone arguably best ability in the game. I wager its collectively gained more JP for squads than any other

Haha it's a real sleeper, especially when you hit that knockback and push your target off a high ledge. 👌 I am more of a Focus user myself, I'm all about that self-improvement. 😂

I mainly use the Squire skillset to Focus on JP Boosting and sometimes level grinding. I tend to use Throw Stone combined with Archer's Speed Save to make the grind go a little faster all while entering Mandalia Plains from Igros. My FAVORITE thing about Squires is not only the male squires's attire, but the knockback from their skills. Fall damage is a beautiful thing to witness... unless it happens to you. (Actually had a battle in Mlapan where I raised Balthier from 1-99 and accidentally knocked him off the cliff with Ramza and he almost crystalized because his SPD was maxed at 50 from Speed Save while Ramza's wasn't.

Hey TIUH, I really appreciate the compliment about the video quality! 🙏 That story about Balthier is amazing, and points out the dangers of high speed characters haha! To answer your question about the camera motion, I am animating the scale and position of the footage. It's called 'pan and scan', or the Ken Burns technique, and is very useful for still images especially. I like to make the footage of tactics a little more dynamic since it's a very static game to watch. And it's great having you in the community regardless if you're talkative! We don't have a lot of active members right now, so maybe I can get the conversation going to get some interest in more games! Always good to see you, thanks again for the kind words and sharing your story! 🙌

Hey Rolando, glad you liked the video buddy! 🙌 Just remember you have to be standing next to the monster to unlock new abilities. It's actually a great chance to see unique skills if you're the type of player who wants to see it all. 👀

Lol a job “focus” on squire. Thanks again for the awesome content! Ever think of doing a breakdown video on the pvp patch classes? I’ve been watching your replays and have been messing around with teams (currently setting up the pvp build still) and would love to hear your thoughts on the current balance patch in general. Things like Sage and the changes to equipment stats sound amazing for pvp, but I’m just a tad overwhelmed looking through the Tactics League patch notes.

Hey Dr. Jay! Thanks for checking out the video bud! 🙏 There is a boat load of changes in the PVP patch, and honestly I feel you about being overwhelmed. It's been a couple weeks and I'm still trying to get a comprehensive grasp on every job. On that note I will be sitting down with YoshnJa to get a summary of the changes, accompanied by a longer job focus style video breakdown with specific changes highlighted. If you're ever up for a casual match I'd be happy to help you build a roster and try something experimental. Thanks for checking out the episode and I'll see you around Dr. Jay! 👋

I find that the skills the squire can learn are either excellent or absolute trash. JP Boost?, basically required if you don't want to waste hours of your life grinding. Focus?, a good skill on its own right that also helps lessen the grind. Apart from that, i can't recall ever using any other squire skill, period. Well, now that this mandatory episode is done, we can move on to more interesting topics. It was a great video nonetheless, you always bring us the very best content after all, no matter the subject!.

I promise it gets better, for the next in the series at least! You're right on those critical abilities, everything else just serves as hurdles to Onion Knight mastery. 🙄 I appreciate the kind words and I'll see you in the next video Joaquin! 🙏

Hi (again), about the squire, is there a guide about the skill beastmaster??? The wiki says "Add an ability to all monsters in neighboring tiles with an elevation difference of 3h or less.", but it doesn't says what ability is granted to which monster, i guess different abilities for different monsters, could you make a video about it? Or at least where can i get that info

  • @TacticsLive

The ability is unique to the monster, you're correct, and I don't have a resource for all the additions - but the suggestion to cover all of them with a video is a great idea, thank you! 🙏
